There are warriors, and there are sentimental people. Before "Gone With the Wind" was allowed on TV, I watched a rare screening in Hollywood. Toward the end, you could hear women quietly crying and blowing their noses. I was sad too, but at 17 I didn't understand a widow's sexual hopelessness.

The one that made me cry was "Love is a Many-Splendored Thing" on TV. See, before hippies forced a cultural revolution, life was much more conservative, formal, and lonely. Chinawoman Jennifer Jones is in a lonely spot--should she stay in capitalist Hong Kong or return to China, which is undergoing revolution. She is old for a single woman, but then, a miracle--American William Holden. Here are the last 10 minutes.
