The problem is that tenths and hundredths of a percent overwhelm our hospitals and put us all at far greater risk.Decimal percentages in the tenths and hundredths of zero are as good as zero to me. You are using technicalities to make a weak point.
Also, you’re engaging in a discussion with a forum full of vaccinated people who’ve had Covid. The effectiveness of the vaccine in reducing symptoms is up for debate but the idea it prevents infection or transmission isn’t really being touted anymore.
We took Covid tests to determine we were positive.
Were you one of those people who actually thought the vaccine kept you from getting it? Or actually thought people who got the vaccine thought that? I can’t believe I’m asking somebody this after everything we went thru.
I can’t believe you’re asking it either. Do you know what site you’re on right now? Do you see the things people post here? We were told these things repeatedly from every authority with a platform. The president himself said it, along with other politicians. The literal mechanism for shaming and attacking anyone who questioned the vaccine was those exact reasonings you listed. You’re going to pretend none of this happened or those claims weren’t made. Short term memories bro.

It's a big problem.
You don’t say anything of substance ever. You don’t even try. Just block me or something.Yes, but those people can also see the things that you post as well.
Yes. Same story with basically our whole basketball program (many who got tested, and all who were tested had the flu, even though some of the conservatives swear the test was wrong) as well as most of my shop (who were not tested).Last week of February 2020, flying from Miami to Toronto…..5 feet away from me Gary Trent Jr. And CJ McCollum are sneezing and coughing the whole time. (When a player gets sick, protocol is to move them away from the other players and back with us)
I woke up the next day sicker than I’ve been in YEARS! They sent me to the team doctors and gave me a mask. Tested positive for Influenza 2. Sick for a week and then back at it.
So when COVID broke out, a few months later they brought us in to get a blood test to see if we had ever got it and I swore I had, they said nope. I think that’s what confused me the most. All of the symptoms sound like a really bad flu.

This isn’t true. Those aren’t the age groups that required hospitalization. Not in any actual way. We live in a society where people go to the hospital for every sneeze or stubbed toe already. When you have a media telling the entire country they are are going to die if they catch Covid, you are going to have droves of people showing up at hospitals that don’t need to be there. There has been no culpability for the fear campaign that took place.
Nah, this is covid thread now. The other one is bugsSeems like a good time to merge..
It’s good of you to give credit to those here who are trying to have meaningful conversations. Grouping yourself in with them is a stretch.Of course I do, I as well as others have countered pretty much everything you've said in the thread.
I as well as others, like Bill Gates and stuff, have extremely important philanthropic duties and can’t just play around on here all the time....then you simply disappear for a while,
Here in the US we don't get enough care. Our hospitals were not overwhelmed by fit and healthy people. This isn’t true. Those aren’t the age groups that required hospitalization. “Vaccinated people can become infected with COVID-19 and spread it to others. However, a 2023 study found that vaccinated people were significantly less likely to transmit the virus,” said Brian Laird, PharmD, a manager in Pharmacy Operations at OSF HealthCare.

Bill Gates is simply a funding mechanism. Same as Elon Musk.
They aren't expert professionals, IMO. When their considerable influence supports things actual expert professionals think need supported I appreciate them. SpaceX, nuclear energy development, vaccination, etc...
When they make selfish moves that hurt the greater good like Twitter/X or the funding used as leverage that has screwed up many schools I don't appreciate them.
Expert professionals are certified as such and bring forth actual data with the only real motivation being the use of said data to make better choices moving forward. Regardless of which direction that data supports.
I think they both know far more than the average layperson about the things they are passionate about. But I don't trust either of them as much on these issues as I would a real scientist.Bill Gates doesn't get a lot of respect and I completely understand why. Most every product Microsoft ever made sucks.
That said, he knows way the fuck more than most of us about communicable diseases. He's a layperson, sure, but he's a very well educated (and I don't mean his one year at Harvard) layperson. He's spent a lot of years talking to experts in the field.
Elon Musk doesn't get a lot of respect and I completely understand why. He's a useless amoral douchebag.

Starlink is the best satellite Internet in the world... By a wide margin. To the point that whole countries rely on it for their national defense.F' Elon Musk...he initially pulled me in with Tesla and Space X, then quickly pushed me away, first with Starlink and then Twitter/X.
Not to mention Trump cultist.F' Elon Musk...he initially pulled me in with Tesla and Space X, then quickly pushed me away, first with Starlink and then Twitter/X.

Dude has some issues, but his contributions honestly can't be overstated. He's absolutely changed the world for the better.
Very doubtful. Once the money started flowing from the US to Ukraine Elon just wanted his piece of the action. Elon isn't going to give the US cause to take over Starlink. If he does, the US will just take it over.Which may turn out very badly for them, depending on Elon's whims at any given moment.
Also very unlikely, IMO. He made electric cars desirable (by bringing together motivated geniuses so he could stand on their shoulders), when the government was being controlled by big oil and Detroit. The story isn't over, and it's entirely possible he'll end up a net negative, given his current trajectory.

Every PC in my house is connected to an ethernet cable. It's a far more stable and reliable connection.Pretty sure I said this earlier, but just in case, F' Ealon Musk....and F' Starlink too. He intially promised 300 mbps but that's very misleading because the ONLY way you can get that kind of speed is via an ethernet cable (who the hell still uses an ethernet cable?)...Starlink wifi only delivers about 90-100 mbps...then he arbitrarily raised the price twice within my first 6 months.
I'm now getting 800-900 mbps for $30 less per month.....oh, did I already mention?............F' Elon Musk.
Being used in Maui & Ukraine for comms.Every PC in my house is connected to an ethernet cable. It's a far more stable and reliable connection.
He promised 300mbps and he delivered on it if you can get that via an ethernet cable. It's satellite internet. It's 100 times better than any other satellite internet option. And FAR more reliable. If you have access to a broadband connection for $30 per month then Starlink was never intended for you. And Elon Musk said as much many times.
It's important that we have realistic expectations...
Virtually every laptop that doesn't have an Ethernet port can use a USB to Ethernet adapter.Desktop computers are about the only ones with ethernet ports and their numbers have been shrinking for years...and even fewer laptops even come with ethernet ports anymore, same with tablets and wifi gives me a MUCH better cell phone signal than verizon's tower signal.
...one more time, F' Elon Musk.
