Re: Nic 4 years, 46.5 Million

My answer is possibly, but it'll depend on how good Lillard is. See, my opinion is what they call "nuanced".

that is a "no". if you have to put qualifiers on it, he's not going to be an all-star.

Re: Nic 4 years, 46.5 Million

that's the problem, though. Unless stuff's gone through the league office that NO ONE has tweeted/written about, MIN can't possibly offer the deal they say.

yeah, I was looking as well, dont see any mention of them cutting anyone else as of now

Re: Nic 4 years, 46.5 Million

uhh, you're not going to offer a bad SF more than 11m. you can probably find guys in the 5-7m range who would be just as effective as batum (he isn't very effective)

what 17+ PER SF with range and reasonably competent defense is out there for 5-7 mil?

Re: Nic 4 years, 46.5 Million

Why? Why the fuck is that?

because, you should be certain he will be an allstar. otherwise, not worth the money. not going to be an allstar.

If Kevin Durant was paired with Raymond Felton, he'd still be an allstar.

Re: Nic 4 years, 46.5 Million

Not over paid is probably the wrong term. Not ridiculously over paid is probably better

Looking at other SF's

Guys right around Batum in millions

Granger 13
Gay 16.4
Iggy 14.7
Gallinari 9.4
Wallace 10
Deng 13.3
Batum 11.5

Taking age into account, I don't think it a bad contract at all. I guess I am trying so unsuccessfully to say that It's not like Nic doesn't belong on the list of guys making 11 and over given his PER, age,

Re: Nic 4 years, 46.5 Million

MIKE DUNLEAVY.

PER 16.66.

I'm thinking this is what Batum is going to basically end up as, a French Version of Mike Dunleavy.

I would happily take a SF that averages 15/6/3 per 36 minutes on the floor for his career

Re: Nic 4 years, 46.5 Million

as long as LMA is healthy i think that's a little pessimistic, and i don't see the relevance since batum will certainly make us better either way, and memphis was NOT a playoff team when they maxed out gay (summer 2010)

But they are now...and POR is not...

You are basing your premise on that he is worth the contract because he will significantly improve after 4+ years in the NBA...and very few players do that, particularly if they stay with the same team....

What from this roster has changed from last year after the trade dealine? A bunch of unproven rookies are going to take this team from 28 wins to the playoffs? I don't think that is very realistic....

Re: Nic 4 years, 46.5 Million

Whether you want them to match or not (if it really has been signed), I think its clear they will match. Olshey would have probably taken the draft picks if he never intended to match and moved on.

this is why draft picks/cap space is a crapshoot. better to wheel and deal for veterans even if they're on the decline!

Re: Nic 4 years, 46.5 Million

OK, just rechecked. For some reason I didn't have Ellington on there--I thought he'd been traded out. That's why I check with Story's page:

Love 12,922,194
Martell Webster 5,712,000
Darko Milicic
Brad Miller 5,104,000
Nikola Pekovic 4,837,200
Derrick Williams 4,809,840
Jose Barea 4,493,500
Wesley Johnson 4,285,560
Luke Ridnour 4,000,000
Ricky Rubio 3,741,120
Wayne Ellington 2,083,042
Chase Budinger 885,120
Malcolm Lee 762,195
Total: 53,635,771

Can offer 4.4M starting.

Chad Ford:

I think they should. He's being overpaid. That's what happens with Restricted Free Agents. But he's an asset and is young and productive. Don't think you just give him away to the Timberwolves. If the Wolves do get them, they're going to be MUCH better next season.

I agree with your premise here, I think good teams...smart teams...pay that kind of money out to players who have shown on the court that they are worthy of that type of money....A guy like Harden for instance.....Bad teams pay out that kind of money to players who have not shown on the court that they are worthy of it, but they are HOPING that they will...

Re: Nic 4 years, 46.5 Million

They're going to match. There is no question about that. They knew what the Wolves were going to offer. If they wanted to let him go they would have taken the two first-round picks.

The other plus: The Wolves waste their amnesty on a smallish contract.

A win is a win is a win.

And facts are facts :)

Re: Nic 4 years, 46.5 Million

Might as well stop crying and fretting people. He's gonna be here next year ... just hope he can (mostly) live up to the deal.

This is where I am. Although I'm still holding out hope that the reported offer is wrong since it hasn't been reported by others yet.

Re: Nic 4 years, 46.5 Million

At $46.5 Million, Nic better be playing 40 minutes a game and the Trail Blazers better find a coach who is guaranteed to make Nic shine in the offense.

dunleavy is cheap because he's 31. also i think batum is a more effective all-around player now than dunleavy ever was.

if you want a cheap vet SF as a stop-gap while we tank and try to preserve cap space for or draft the next big thing might as well just start babbitt or claver

Blog update: Glen Taylor says Wolves submitting $46.5M offer sheet to NBA by end of business today, gives Blazers one last chance for S-T

Were keeping batum and it is an overpay but not by that much. He is worth about 9m a year. Capspace isn't all that great for a team like Portland.

Re: Nic 4 years, 46.5 Million

so he HASN'T signed?!?!

I still ask, what's MIN getting done by COB today that frees up another 6.5M in cap room? Miller's retirement (even if it goes through immediately) won't do it.

Wolves are offering draft picks but won't give up Derrick Williams or Pek

Re: Nic 4 years, 46.5 Million

So Chris Haynes is a liar right?

I also saw this - the soap opera continues?
