Re: Nic 4 years, 46.5 Million

Haynes is becoming a hack.

Re: Nic 4 years, 46.5 Million

OK, just rechecked. For some reason I didn't have Ellington on there--I thought he'd been traded out. That's why I check with Story's page:

Love 12,922,194
Martell Webster 5,712,000
Darko Milicic
Brad Miller 5,104,000
Nikola Pekovic 4,837,200
Derrick Williams 4,809,840
Jose Barea 4,493,500
Wesley Johnson 4,285,560
Luke Ridnour 4,000,000
Ricky Rubio 3,741,120
Wayne Ellington 2,083,042
Chase Budinger 885,120
Malcolm Lee 762,195
Total: 53,635,771

Can offer 4.4M starting.

Crazy thing is that doesn't even factor in the $5M/yr that they're supposedly paying Brandon Roy. How in the world can they even submit an offer sheet??

Re: Nic 4 years, 46.5 Million

They're going to match. There is no question about that. They knew what the Wolves were going to offer. If they wanted to let him go they would have taken the two first-round picks.

The other plus: The Wolves waste their amnesty on a smallish contract.

A win is a win is a win.

And facts are facts :)

Who else were the Wolves going to Amnsety? Darko, Pek, Wes, and Ridnour were the only guys eligible for the amnesty. Obviously Pek and Ridnour wouldn't be amnestied. Wes has a tiny bit of value just because he's still young. Darko has no value at this point. He sat at the end of the bench eating bon bons with a towel over his head last year. The guy just gave up when Pek took his job.

Your definition of "facts" is much different than anyone else, I'm learning.

Then again I'm seeing a few of you guys suggest going after Darko now. Maybe you've become contagious?

Re: Nic 4 years, 46.5 Million

Darko Webster and Miller buyout gives them about 12.8 in cap room. Still no way to sign both Batum and Roy, IMO

Re: Nic 4 years, 46.5 Million

Batum is a bargain at $9mil, a slight overpay at $11mil, but that's the cost of doing business when you are the Portland Trail Blazers. It doesn't hamper the Blazers going forward, we aren't going to sign another SF in that ball park who is as good, and we sure as hell aren't losing him for no compensation. And, he has a chance to actually earn the contract going forward as literally our No. 2 seasoned vet. To me you match, no brainer, that is, if there is something to match.

Re: Nic 4 years, 46.5 Million

For fucks sake, so it wasn't actually submitted?

LOL

I wonder if the pups finally ponied up Williams if the Blazers would even bite on the sign and trade?

Re: Nic 4 years, 46.5 Million

But they are now...and POR is not...

what's the relevance of that?

they overpaid gay when they weren't a playoff team. i was just pointing out that the market value of guys like batum is probably a little higher than many here are suggesting because there is precedent for teams overpaying to keep their own players in similar situations.

You are basing your premise on that he is worth the contract because he will significantly improve after 4+ years in the NBA...and very few players do that, particularly if they stay with the same team....

i didn't say anything about him improving. i think he will make us better as he is now.

What from this roster has changed from last year after the trade dealine? A bunch of unproven rookies are going to take this team from 28 wins to the playoffs? I don't think that is very realistic....

i didn't say anything about the playoffs. i just think "need luck to win 30" is a little pessimistic, particularly if we match batum. if LMA is healthy and motivated 35-40 isn't an unreasonable expectation. easy to forget how good he was for most of last season.

Actually about $14mil. Martell's owed 600k, and Miller's owed 800k. Cap is a little over $58mil. Wolves are at $44.2mil after Darko, Matell, and Miller are dealt with.

I think they are just going to call it becoming a haynes, from now on. Kind of like how people say 'band aid' instead of 'bandage'. "Man, that hack writer is really becoming a Haynes."

Has Dwight taken Haynes to the dark side?

Re: Nic 4 years, 46.5 Million

Derrick Williams and 2 1st's. Let's do it.

Re: Nic 4 years, 46.5 Million

Wolves owner said it would be submited at the end of the business day today. Portland had until then if they wanted to do a S&T.

LOL, big friggin deal, Blazers' laughin as Minny position gets weaker and weaker

I have this as well. But Webster can't just be cleared immediately, he has to go through waiver process. Even Miller's sketchy--I know MIN guys are saying he's just going to retire, but when Sheed did he had to file papers with the league office and wait before the cap space became available.

Re: Nic 4 years, 46.5 Million

Kahn is such a newbie to all of this. These "threats" (w/o leverage) is total amateur hour.

Re: Nic 4 years, 46.5 Million

This is all quite hilarious.

The owner is giving the Blazers a "last chance" to do a S&T.

Why is he desperate? They know the Blazers are set to match.

Game.

Set.

Match.

Which while it sucks because I wanted Batum, then the Blazers are left with paying Batum's contract. Wolves move on to their next target if the Blazers match. It's not the end of the world. Ultimately we're not talking about some 1st option all-star that's a total franchise player. We're talking about a nice roleplayer, that's it.

Roy deal can be revised. Not like it matters much to Brandon, he's getting paid the same amount regardless.

Shved can be signed using the mini-midlevel exception

I'm getting tired of seeing Brad Miller on your spreadsheets. You guys know he's retired, right? He's just not "officially" off the books yet because that contract has trade value.

RFA, it happens.

The silver lining? It's only a 4-year deal.

We're not locked into these 5/6 year deals like in the past.

But we're flattered they have this much interest in Blazer basketball.

Exactly, I agree with all that.

I also fully believe that the Wolves have a Korver for either Barea or Johnson trade in the wings. All just depends on if there's a S&T or not. If there isn't, I'm sure you'll see a couple moves by the Wolves tonight. If there is a S&T, then no need for Korver trade.

If a bunch of morons like us understand the salary cap, I'm guessing the guys whose job it is to know this stuff have a pretty good clue on it.

He's not "officially" off the spreadsheets because he hasn't "officially" retired with the league and as such can't "officially" be taken off of team salary so that you can "officially" offer someone an offer sheet. Don't blame my spreadsheet for your GM's lack of understanding of the CBA.

I agree that he's not THAT great, and MN would be just fine without him, but who do you see as the next target?

Ed O.
