HD Broadcasts

Its been great but, every single pre-game interview with coach Nate has been a glitch fest.

That a-boy.

Also, anyone notice that Rice is getting a little more non-PC on TV , holy cow. Some of the shit he was saying the last couple of broadcasts has me fuck'n rolling. Like about the "Aussies", and oh the Argentinians hair, or whatever Scola's nationality is... lol

How about on Sunday night when he said "Durant just did a Judo Cock-Chop Kick on Greg and Greg got the foul"??? It was with, I think, 10:02 remaining in the 2nd Quarter. It was sooooo damn funny I had to rewind it about 5 times or so just to make sure I was hearing him right!

ooohhh i forgot about that, LOL. I think i was lulled to sleep by the boring ass game we were witnessing!

fucking mike rice, wow.

I've noticed that the broadcasts have been freezing for a few seconds at totally random moments. Think it's only on CSN though.

Yup, they freeze and then for a few seconds it looks really choppy.

I am going to my first game tonight. I will tell you if it's the broadcast or if they really freeze in the game and TV is imitating life... :devilwink:

I sense a little HD Causin' Panic

The signal has to get from A to B somehow. If A is in Houston and B is in Portland, then it's likely going to be sent up to a satellite, received by a really big dish at the cable company in Portland, then sent over the cable. They could be recompressing the stream so it takes less of the cable's overall bandwidth - that would definitely downgrade the picture quality. If it's really cloudy in Portland, the signal from the satellite could be blocked. Heck, even a big flock of birds can block it.

Since TV went all digital (in most places), the non-HD version should be way better, as well as the sound. Analog signal doesn't provide any real color information, among other things. Digital signal does contain color information, which is why you don't need to adjust the colors on your set, no matter the programming (digital).

Since nobody else seemed to point it out, the freezing only happened during the road games, not either of the home games broadcast thus far, although now that I think about it both home games were not on CSN, but were shown on KGW and TNT. Additionally, the first time I noticed the freeze was during the pre-game on Saturday. I think Holton was diagramming a play and it froze him for about 2 minutes, but the score ticker at the bottom of the screen continued to run fine.

Verizon/FiOS same thing, right? I see the station, I click on the station, and I get a weird menu error.

I had this exact thing happen to me the other night. I too have FIOS. No clue whats going on, but the SD channel works fine (77 I think?).

I will say, the SD feed on my FIOS looks better this year than the SD feed on Comcast that I watched last year.

77 is the non HD channel

I've noticed the picture has been blurry, particularly towards the end of the game. But then again, maybe its just me. I've been drinking a lot lately.

Picture just froze at the 6:15 mark in the first quarter. Lasted about 10 seconds.

Wish I knew what to tell you guys about the freezing. They now know about it!

+1
saw that. CSN HD

That both of you see the same thing at the same time is a clue that the problem is likely with their satellite uplink/downlink. Or they use inferior cable box technology and you both have the same model set top box.

KGW HD looked good.
CSN HD looked average.
TNT and ESPN's HD picture quality is noticeably better IMO.

I'm not complaining. The CSN HD is 100 times better than the CSN SD crap we got last year.

I agree with this too. There is a noticeable difference between CSN HD and TNT/ESPN. CSN HD is definitely better than last year though.

I am mad that the commercials are not in HD as well........
