Head Coach thread

SVG in Detroit.
Bud in ATL.
Thibs in Minny.
Isaiah in NY.

i want the GM out scouting prospects, watching games outside his own, and be continually involved in talks to improve the team.

i want the coach pouring over film and liaising with the stars, and focusing on the daily operations.

the overall vision of the two could be independent.

pop doesn’t go around scouting anyone either, that’s Bufords job, but he has final say. I personally think Spoelstra has earned more power, power he won’t get in Miami as long as Riley is around. I could see him leaving if he got it elsewhere. Coaches have ambition too.

Ah yeah, there's the others. They were all in kind of the same era.

I wonder what distinction there is between GM and PoBO.

Still not a great idea to combine the jobs. Enough evidence to know that unless they're slotted in long term, it won't work.

I wonder if Spoelstra and Barry weren't interviewing for Neil's job and Hammon and Billups Stayley and DAntoni as coaches

Brandon Sprague is not a douche and not a clickbait guy. I listen to their show every day. They are Blazers fans but not at all delusional. Sprague had some fun today fantasizing about Spo, and he does have a reliable source, or rather, as he said, someone he "trusts." He was not click baiting. Good guy.

That being said, Spo would have to be given a Pete Carroll type roll. Not coach/GM, but president of operations/HC, then hires a GM he can work lock-step with.

Yeah. Sprague isn't a click bait type of personality. I've listened to them since they were after primetime.

That being said, spo isn't coming here.

I guess sometimes I get too optimistic. But we now know that there seems to be a channel of communication possible from McGowan through Spo's dad to Spo. And actually we have been hearing Spoelstra's name for over a week now. Maybe it has some legs.

Wouldn’t that be considered tampering if Pat Riley hasn’t granted Portland permission to discuss?

I have lots of reason for not believing Hammon would be the best coach for the Blazers (never head coached, offensive, not defensive specialist), but people do realize that if the Blazers hire her and she doesn't succeed, there is no way they will be able to fire her. The pressure from the public and the ghost of Pops will be overwhelming. You better like her in Portland for a very long time.

Hammon’s old news. It’s Spo or bust now.

I don't know. What if his dad initiated the conversation and said his son was interested in coming back to Portland?

Maybe this is how we find out which posters are actually Neil's s2 burners...

Look for this as their avatar.

It’s hard for me to believe any Portland media types have any kind of inside sources. Just by the paranoid environment that’s been in the franchise for years. I think this is one of those things that won’t be known until it’s announced. It will probably be via a tweet by Woj.

I do know their should be some kind of urgency by Portland’s front office. Because, Boston who arguably has a more enticing situation could want the same coach (Billups).

I REALLY wanted Billups until I heard about the rape cover up case in 1997 w/ Boston...the problem is what it legit or a case where the story was exaggerated or had lapses of information...Oregon basketball players were accused of the same type of situation a few years ago w/ Damyean Dotson, Dominic Artis, and Brandon Austin...after the police report came out, it was clear the only one of the 3 in the wrong was Austin who had a previous case at Providence...hopefully Chauncey wasn't guilty of rape but how will we ever know?

Bullshit. If she bombs she can be fired.

Whoever it is I guarantee it will be underwhelming. My guess is MDA, who is most likely Neil’s 3rd or 4th choice at this point.

The fact that Jody and the Vulcans need to review and sign off on a new coach worries me that they will take their sweet time.
Boston can pull the trigger real quick especially if they like Billups.
I wonder if Emi is even in the running ?

No Spoelstra...that's a dead rumor now...he's said he was always staying in Miami and there was no truth to the rumor
