I want to get a clear picture of our cap situation.

I ran the salaries through excel and I came up with $60.8 million with Mo and roughly $58 million without Mo.

The projected cap is supposed to be around $63.2 million for next season.

Did anyone get something different?

Where are you BrianfromWA?!

Storyteller said on another forum that we only will have the MLE and the BAE this offseason. Our "capspace" will be less than the MLE - so we get the MLE, as teams don't get both IIRC.

I was getting a little over 61 million without Mo.

Damn... somehow I missed Leonard on my list. I guess it was wishful thinking.

Where did you get your salary info btw?

I'm as stupid as they come when it comes to cap stuff, but I think just MLE

The fact that Batum makes almost 3x more than Dame sucks-ass. ;) But yea, I understand the rookie deal vs not.

I think we could off-load Leonard with a couple players like Crabbe and Claver. Maybe do a lopsided deal to free up even more cap space.

If Mo opts out, we have roughly 2 million in space. Offloading Leanard, Crabbe and Claver all together nets us an additional 4.5 roughly. Still only leaving us with roughly MLE money. And for who?

That will be 6.5 mil roughly. I thought MLE is less.

MLE will be 5.3, dumping all those guys and taking nobody back would leave us at about 6.3. But, then because we dropped 4 guys from the roster, we get hit with roster charges of about 500,000 each to get us to 12, so I think that gives us 5.8 versus 5.3 to use.

And how do we offload Leonard, Crabbe and Claver? They're all guaranteed money next season and I don't see anyone trading cap space for them.

He was replying to my idea. I was the one that suggested it.

I think the Spurs wouldn't mind. I think Claver, Leonard and Crabbe would all benefit from being coached by Pops.

I don't think they have cap space. And do you really want to see Pop turn those guys into studs?

Why not? We can't turn them into studs.

I think Crabbe is worth holding onto. I'd like to see what he does in the summer league. I'm not in love with Claver, so if they move him I won't really care much. Leonard has frustrating so I really don't even know at this point.

Again.....we have the MLE (about $7M) and the BAE (about $2M) to sign players. With or without MoWill.

Best scenario: Mo stays and doesn't opt out. We can add two nice players to the team by cutting Watson and Claver.

Good scenario: Mo opts out but stays for the BAE ($2M) but longer years (3). We then sign a nice player or two with MLE money, cut Watson and/or Claver.

Bad scenario: Mo opts out and leaves, we cannot find a good replacement ball-handler, and bring back the same team as ended this year, don't improve much.

You forget the awesome scenario where Mo leaves and we replace him with someone better.

The MLE for next season is 5.305. The BAE will be at 2.077.

We can sign Mo using the non-bird exception to a starting salary of 120% of his previous salary(2.652), so a starting salary of 3182400, , and can throw out a 3 year offer, 3/9,983,268. Round up and call it roughly a 3/10 deal. Maybe he gets more. But he'll be 32 in December. I dunno if the 3rd year(or potential 4th year) tacked on sways him to stay. Or whether we wat that ultimately. But you can offer him that without touching the BAE(2.077, only 2 years), and without touching the MLE. So you can sign Mo. Use full MLE on scorer, BAE on big?

MLE will be 5.3, dumping all those guys and taking nobody back would leave us at about 6.3. But, then because we dropped 4 guys from the roster, we get hit with roster charges of about 500,000 each to get us to 12, so I think that gives us 5.8 versus 5.3 to use.

Mini MLE since you're under the cap.

I'd be more than happy to wager that you're absolutely wrong on this.

I think you're right. Mo opting out doesn't get you far enough under the cap. You cannot, however, use the $5M of salary space below the cap to sign players. The MLE buys maybe $1M more buying power, though. You could keep Mo AND have the MLE, which is the best of all worlds.

What "other" forum. I thought S2 was the ONLY forum we need!

If there is a midround draft prospect we like I could see Neil trading next years pick for him. The deal can be finalized right after the pick is made as then it won't matter we teaded away this years pick.

Are there any teams in the middle of the draft who are trying to clear cap space? That could make a willing trade partner. We'd get a pick higher than our expected draft spot next year but gamble that we don't sink back into the lottery.
