OT Hibbert to Golden State?

It's only a bonus that isn't applied to cap

It is applied to the cap.

The bonus is divided evenly among the years of the contract. $5M kicker, 5 year contract adds $1M per year to his cap hit. The $1M is true for a team receiving him in trade.

Henderson and Kaman to GS
Hibbert to Portland
Lee to Indiana

That does seem to make sense. Taking for granted that Indiana wants/is okay with Lee since they're presumably pursuing this, Portland gets a good big man on a one-year deal and Golden State gets immediate cap relief (releasing Kaman's non-guaranteed contract) and Henderson on a one-year deal (it's been mentioned that Golden State doesn't want to add salary beyond next year in return for Lee).

Hibbert's current contract is 15 million. And I don't see why Lopez is suddenly such an hot item. He's basically the same player he's always been, and we got him for scraps last year.
It's for one year. Lopez would make at least 8 mil per, because what's going around the league. Most likely it will be at least 4 years 36 mil. Last time I checked 36 mil is more than 15

Seems like a no-brainer rental for a year at the very least if that is the price that gets it done. However, this basically guarantees that GS gets to keep Drymond Green. So in a sense we are helping them the most.

How expensive a player is usually referred to on a per year basis.

They can keep Green regardless of whether they dump Lee. Dropping salary is to avoid a gigantic luxury tax bill (one that Warriors' owner Joe Lacob said he will pay if necessary, but would prefer not to especially considering Lee would like to start somewhere else).

And Hibbert being on his last year is extremely valuable. It's a huge cap relief in mid season trades, or that same relief for your team. Signing Lopez 9 mil for the next 4 years would be 9 mil more next summer according to your sense of reality.

They could but there is a non-zero chance they wouldn't in that scenario. There is a 100% chance they would in this new scenario is all I am saying.

My bad. Can you ever forgive me?

I'm disinterested in your apologies.

(Theoretically, I do know the difference between "disinterested" and "uninterested" but, for some reason that I can't quite pin down, "uninterested" always seems more awkward to me leading me to make that error more than I'd like.)

Am I the only one that still wants Lopez back? I think his hand really affected his play last year. He would come at a reasonable price and he seems to fit in. I'd give him another shot, even as a backup.

Since nobody wants Hibbert we should be getting a draft pick for taking him on - maybe both IND and GSW should give us a pick for facilitating this trade.

If his primary value is in his "expiring contract" then why even sign him in the first place? Just keep your cap space. Why tie up such a big chunk of our free agent money in a one year rental, if Hibbert isn't a long term solution.

Not sure if I'd give Lopez that..but it might be better than it looks now with the way the cap is inflating. 9 mil in a couple of years will be like 6 mil today. It might be a better value to retain Freeland.

Don't get me started on less vs. fewer and jealous vs. envious...

Without some major trade activity, there is no way he comes back with the log jammed frontcourt we have now

I would have considered a Batum for Hibbert deal straight up, just to try Hibbert out, but I think we did better getting Henderson and Vonleh.

Sure I'd take him as a backup but some other team will give him a starting gig.

Because that's not why you trade for him. You hope that he can become the Hibbert of two years ago with the change of scenery.

If it doesn't work out, you have a very valuable expiring, or ability to sign him for much less. Either way, the risk/reward factor is good

Let's take Hibbert and start Plumlee at PF and Meyers at SF. That'll show those small-ballin' fuckers.

How are we log jammed? We have like 3 total 4/5s on our roster, and one is a major project.

But that 15 mil you are giving to Hibbert could be a really good player, or a number of good reserves. The cost is too high to just hope him returns back to form. And he's never been good on the offensive end. Teams really exploited Lopez slow-a-footness last year, and I'm ready for a change up.

But it wouldn't in my scenario. It's Kaman's $5 mil and $10 mil in space. So actually it would be Kaman and Lopez for Hibbert. That's worth it

But Hibbert isn't really that good. If he were a really good player, sure it would be worth it.

That neither GSW nor IND want him is a clue.
