What do you mean? I thought it was different than the standard "I'm a rich thug from the ghetto" song. It was more X and Em bashing on annoying things that came with their fame (obnoxious fans, reporters, golddiggers, etc.).

And to me, that's more obnoxious than a rich thug talking about how they're from the ghetto. Most of us are busting our asses in nine to fives, and they're bitching and moaning about the most minute negative aspects of their plush lives.

Besides, in the song, both of them try to come off as intimidating, which frankly, they're not. And even if they were, who wants to be intimidated through music? I can see music getting you pumped up, but wouldn't you have to be in a position like theirs to get pumped by this music... like be a rich rap star bugged by the paparazzi?

So what, they should pretend to be 9-5'ers like the rest of us, so that we can relate to their music? I don't consider it some sort of classic or anything, but I like they way they just let out their frustration on the track. It had a good beat and clever, well-thought out lines. I guess its just a difference in taste.

Anyways, I don't think anyone rated your recommendation:

BTNH - The Weed Song
C

Not my favourite Bone Thugs song. Its relaxing as hell to listen to, but the lyrics just drone on and don't really stand out at all.

Public Enemy - Son of a Bush

Yeah, it's a difference in taste. I'm not saying that they have to pretend to be anything though, yet at the same time, there are tons of things to write about without having to go on such an annoying topic like the paparazzi.

Like weed and sex? I see your point...

Those are relatable topics. That's everyday life. The paparazzi isn't. I don't see yours...

As for the song, I'll throw it a B. I like the message behind the lyrics, but I'm not sure if he chose the right words for that message.

Really annoying. The Spongebong made it even more annoying.

C-

I'm a big Xzibit fan, but this is one of his songs that you can't really appreciate at a deep level. Its got an nice sounding beat, what with the piano in the background. But, despite the clever lyrics and one-liners, its just built to be a catchy single.

Sticking with the whole Xzibit theme, here's one of my favourites:

Xzibit - The Foundation

A- A.F. Venom's: I liked the rhymes quite a bit. The flow was pretty nice too. Then the background music made the song a lot better too.

C+ Chutney: The song was okay but was a little to slow for me. I didn't really like the rhymes that much.....C'mon Chutney, have your video when your posting, not put "searching...."

Hilltop Hoods - "Nosebleed Section"

Not feeling Rakim, Kanye, and Nas in the same song?

Guys, you need to provide more of an explanation. The grade isn't as important as the reasoning, IMO.

I'll kick things back off with the newest "Chicken Noodle Soup" style song

D-. When people say hip hop and stuff liek that is dead. i think this is waht there talkin bout. Yeah, way too generic, bad lyrics. Not feelin it at all.

A+++

I love this - one of my favorite songs of all-time. It's the perfect blend of rock and hip-hop. These guys nailed it. IMO they should have brought Cody ChesnuTT in for more than just this track. The guy absolutely makes the song with his vocals and that catchy riff. Unfortunately, this was about the only standout track on Phrenology. The Roots started to go downhill with this album. They're still better than most of what's out there, but go back and check out albums like Illadelph Halflife and Organix. Those are two of the all-time great hip-hop albums.

(BTW - The editing on this video was pretty annoying. Why can't you say "bush" on tv?)

New Song:

Some of the new rappers should take a page from these guys' book -

De La Soul - My, Myself, and I

Honestly, that was my first time actually sitting down and listening to De La, however I've been planning to pick up one of their albums for a while. That was a cool joint though, nothing great lyrically, B+

I don't know how anybody (at least fans of hip hop) could not appreciate this song:

A, I love this song. One of Will Smith's best songs. Great lyrics, beat, just a song to kick back, chill and listen to.

C

I just don't feel E-40. In my opinion, his lyrics are real crappy, and the only thing I enjoy is the beat.

B, my favorite member of Bone Thugs. Nice song and funny video.

Is this supposed to be diss towards Jim Jones? Because I really don't hear any good disses, or in fact, any at all.

Man, it's really great to see another Bone Thugz fan on this site. IMO they're at the top of the hip-hop/rap game now. Their music really brings me back to HS. Like sophomore or junior year, me and my boys on the basketball team used to go hotbox in the thirty minutes we had between the end of school and practice, and we'd listen to stuff like this, Sublime, Bob Marley, etc. Great weed music... but it's also great music in general. Their flow is underrated, and the speed they had is a lost art in today's game.

"I reminisce, I reminisce"

Here's another song that just brings me back...

Yeah, i got Illadelph Halflife, Phrenology, Game Theory, and Do you Want More?!??
Also the editing is annoying, they take out like everyword.

Yeah, BTNH is awsome. YOu gonna cop Strength And Loyalty when it comes out?

I dont got anything to rate, so rate VC's. I just wanted to drop some comments.

A
I never was a big fan of Lauren Hill, but I do love that song. Good beat, good rhymes, emotionally charged.

Will Smith - Will2k

Real party music!

D

I love Will Smith, but I'll never get over the way that he ripped off the Clash on this one. When it first came out though, I remember really being into it, not really knowing who the Clash were at the time.

New Song:

Styles P - Good Times

Invalid Video Link

Good times..C+...good weed song, but Styles spit a lot of corny one "high" liners on that song...high as a kite...smoke like a chemeney....etc....still a nice song, and the beat/sample use is nice as hell.

I couldn't find the real video, but this is still a real good song so I'ma post it anyway.

Styles P and Pharoahe Monch- the life

^I always liked that song. I liked the lyricism and the overall concept behind it. Pharoahe did a good job on the hook too. B+

I'm currently listening to this:
