Questioning whether I answered my question, won't help you with yours.
You found answers through religion.

Why does that mean religion is important to society? People can find beneficial answers in a belief structure, sure. People can use religion as a motivating source to better their life. Doesn't mean the need religion to do so. It's more of the excuse that gets them to get their shit in check. I'm trying to search for any meaning in your posts. Not seeing it.

Not seeing it.
No doubt. You would not ask the question if you could see. The answer won't come quickly, probably not today, but you can begin today.

What is the difference between, what you want and what is your right?

I spent 12 years in Catholic schools throughout the entire 60’s and early 70’s. We had a lot of religion thrown at us, and while I don’t currently consider myself to be of any particular denomination, the foundation I received has been priceless. We were given structure and discipline the public schools legally weren’t allowed to provide. “Punishment” was only meted out in severe cases and was, almost without exception deserved. And if it didn’t always have the desired effect on the miscreant, it served as ample warning for the rest of the class to behave. In high school the Phys Ed teacher had a wooden paddle he used to smack the (bare!!! Do I qualify for “Me Too”???) butts of the guys who cursed or otherwise misbehaved. It wasn’t the sting of the paddle that kept us in line, it was the humiliation of the punishment (news of which would be throughout the entire school before we had even showered and dressed). And any punishment administered was tacitly approved by the parents, with few if any exceptions. It was considered just another tool in the tool box.

The nuns, priests and brothers who taught us were, in general “social justice warriors” (in the very best use of the term) who did their best to instill in us respect, social awareness and racial equality. They weren’t perfect but my memory is that, with few exceptions they were a cut above (Make all the pedophile priest jokes you want. You’d be wrong....). I still remember when the words “under God” were eliminated from the Pledge of Allegiance. It was a shock to a young kid whose education was wrapped around religion and I wondered how a nation could succeed by booting God out of its’ structure. And I can’t help but wonder if, in 2018 the chickens have finally come home to roost because of those decisions by our government and a few disgruntled (and faithless) squeaky wheels. Because if there is one thing that has become exceedingly clear it’s that America in general is becoming a more Godless place, and the right wing evangelical hypocrites only make the problem worse by being anything but “Christian”. Any country that proudly proclaims, “I’ve got mine, now fuck everybody else” certainly doesn’t truly believe in a higher power......While I do not advocate religion in public schools, I strongly support some sort of moral and ethical code be taught and enforced, and that corporal punishment (within strict limits) be reintroduced. What we have now certainly isn’t working.......Right now our public schools are no more than minimal supervision holding pens for adolescents who have nothing better to do and no place else to go.
Great post

No doubt. You would not ask the question if you could see. The answer won't come quickly, probably not today, but you can begin today. You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

FTFY.

Yeah, I wouldn't ask what the fuck youre talking about if I could "see" what you were talking about.

I just dont understand why people dont realize there's different ways to learn respect, morality, etc. outside of the way they learned it. Therefore their "religion" is important to the whole of society and the "punishment" they received in school should be applied to others.

It's ok, the bible tells us people wont understand. Todays religion is relativism, or selfism. It's wrapped up with many different wrapping papers, even some supposed christians practice it without knowing it.

I read a bit about this. So they are trailing him as an adult. This is a move I kinda thought about hard the other night. I mean he did kill 2 or 3 people and injured a dozen more but at the same time they won’t even be addressing this kids issues. First off this is a male. At 15 males are practically retarded. On top of this he obviously has a mental disorder of some kind going on. So the answer is what? Lock him up for life now, fuck em? I mean it’s tough. Most of society sees something like this and they want this kid by public hanging as soon as possible but let’s face it, most of society is quite dumb and often don’t think before they speak. On one hand obviously the situation is super fucked up and this kid obviously deserves some sort of punishment. On the other hand, I have empathy for this kid in a way because he’s mentally ill. What happened? Is he a schizo? Antidepressants? The more we understand these types of people, the more shootings we could prevent, not saying all of them because that’s impossible but if you teach the people around these individuals and how to recognize mental illness. It could help. You always hear how the person or kid that did it was real quiet or a weirdo. Well shit that’s a sign right there.

Id say liberalism is a pretty major mental ailment.

Getting along with others (other monikers for it are liberalism, friendliness, the Christmas spirit, empathy, unselfishness, etc.) is what makes life worth living. The love of rivalry, competition, war, punishment, torture, and sexual repression are the major mental ailments.

I'm telling you these shooter types needed an ass kicking. It would humble them so they don't go to their school with a shotgun pretending they're the the fucking Punisher.

Maybe, but you won't win that argument here. Shooter types dominate this off-topic board.

Yeah, I wouldn't ask what the fuck youre talking about if I could "see" what you were talking about.

Then you must read. Here is a starting point, to warm you up,
Questions on Science
and Religion.

"If Fr. Jaki reserves special disdain for those who push religion into the realm of
science by insisting on creationism, he has at least as great a disdain for those
scientists who urge science as offering a materialistic explanation of everything.
“Nothing shows so effectively the atrophying character of scientific thinking, or rather
of a thinking that wants to be exclusively scientific, than the denial, by great
scientists, of man’s free will. Einstein was one of these to his eternal shame. … A
world view in which the World, or the Universe writ large is the ultimate entity, allows
no room for free will, not even for thinking freely about such an ultimate entity.”
He even invokes science to demonstrate that science cannot explain all. Specifically,
he invokes Gödel’s Theorem. “Only those trained in mathematical logic would savor”
Gödel’s Theorem as first expressed in 1931, but, he says, it was put “in a form
comprehensible to the layman” in 1962. Basically, Gödel’s Theorem demonstrates

mathematically that in any arithmetic system there will be a statement that can
neither be proved nor disproved; the consistency of an arithmetic system cannot be
proved within that system. To prove or disprove every conceivable statement about
numbers within the system, one must go outside the system to come up with new
rules and axioms - thus creating a larger system with its own unprovable statements."

Then I would suggest, The Sixteen Saviors, to peak your appetite for religion.
Come back when you are hungry for more, the list is long.

Sexual repression? Like ED?

A 12 year old girl. Again, parents need to be held responsible. A 12 year old had acess to a gun and brought it to school in her backpack. It went off apparently accidently injuring four other students. If any school aged minor can access their parents firearms then that parent should not be allowed to own firearms, should be investigated for child endangerment, and should face jail time.

What about kids that stab people. Should parents be held responsible for not locking the kitchen knives behind a fire proof safe?

How about kids that troll facebook until other kids off themselves. Should parents be held responsible for not locking them out of facebook?

Does it even register anymore?
Crimes happen every day bro. Prohibition of anything, won’t fix anything, and everyone knows that...

It would be impossible to abolish crime for humans, because the only way to do that, is to eliminate the need for a crime.

You can eliminate the need for people to steal food, or something simple like that, but you will never eliminate a persons need to commit a “crime”.

So yeah, murder is here to stay for a while longer. And I’d rather take my chances with a bullet, than get run over by a truck, or get blown up, or have someone douse me in gasoline and light me on fire, or get hacked with a machete, etc.

Also with this many people, odds are, that there’s quite a few crazy brains out there just freely breeding and creating more little fucked up humans.

You gotta watch out for those ones.

And personally, and maybe this is just me...

I think it takes more of a fucked up person, to rape, molest, sex/human traffic, than it does to kill a person.

Just my opinion though.

If your kids a little shit its your fault because you didnt teach them right.

I guess but what are the odds that the few nutty kids that would do such a thing wouldn't stab mom or dad and steal the gun anyway?

I don't think there's any easy answer but a nutjob kid could get a kitchen knife easy enough.

We could pass laws all day but would it really help?

We have lots of laws that can be broken or bent but we still have the law because something is better than nothing. We cant do nothing. We make people stop at red lights. You don't have to stop though. But people do for the most part. All you can do is make things harder and harder. That being said the NRA will throw a tantrum. What needs to happen is that at some point a Republican politician who wins the presidency needs to firmly renounce the NRA.As in, "Hey NRA, get the fuck out of here with your nonsense I don't want your money". Which means it wont happen.
