Hold firm, Joe!

After snooping around on other forums looking for rumors etc., most fanatics think Joe will give in to Riley’s and Dame’s demands. Not an easy pair to say no to. Lots of media “leaks” that POR should help Dame to attract other talent. NOP fans fucking LOVE that one. How has that trading philosophy worked for NOP with CP3, AD etc? Free agents aren’t signing there either. Further there is agreement that MIA assets are ridiculously weak.

Jaylen Brown and Williams for Dame and Nurk to Boston...just do it. That's sending him to a deeper team than Miami will put on the court. Dame and Nurk could win big with Porzingas and Tatum in Boston.

Also, Miami is at a high point right now... they lost in the first round last year.

So you add Dame, you lose Herro and other pieces in addition to Strus and Vincent losing. Higher ceiling, but definitely less depth and stability. And, again, this was a team that flamed out last year.

If he goes to Miami, there's a real chance that they don't have enough depth to be as good as they were. Or Dame gets hurt. And/or Butler gets hurt.

There's a big variance in what can happen, but the hype would be off the charts if they get Dame. So it could end poorly.
Wouldn't THAT be a shame

Look at these fucking trades from the last few years:

Interesting that the Harden and Durant trades ended up being 4 team trades. That would indicate that this is going to be a 4 team trade.

Here is Kawhi - July 18, 2018: Traded by the San Antonio Spurs with Danny Green and cash to the Toronto Raptors for DeMar DeRozan, Jakob Pöltl and a 2019 1st round draft pick (Keldon Johnson was later selected). (2019 1st-rd pick is top-20 protected.) $5MM

Not sure he deserves credit for doing the obvious? Or does he?

edit: off-season ain’t over yet.
That sounds like a double standard, if he does the right thing no credit, yet you assume he will not do the right thing going forward.

Gut feeling is that he is no pushover (see gp2 trade). If he does a trade that people deem unworthy, I suspect it comes to a difference of opinion on the value of what goes in or out, market for outgoing assets etc..., not a case of someone rolling over.

Explain how going from Robert Covington, Norman Powell and CJ McCollum to Scoot Henderson and Shaedon Sharpe is doing the obvious????
I'm not even including assets and players the Blazers will get when Dame is traded.

Is is not only Not Obvious, it's fucking magic.

Damian is doing the team a favor, asking out, because management probably wouldn't have had the guts to do it otherwise.
Agreed, but he did them a disfavor by naming Miami as the team he wants to go to. This will severely limit what Portland might be able to get for him.

I’m not giving Joe credit for us moving up in the lotto. Joe’s trade history is lame. Not trading Scoot or Shae was obvious. He doesn’t deserve credit for it. It’s not like he traded those players you listed for the picks, like the deal GW deal that netted us our pick from the Nets (which was ultimately Lillard).

He should. It's absolutely fucking ridiculous that he handed Joe a list of ONE TEAM.
I think what's almost worse is the fact that in looking at the moves Miami made, it was orchestrated much earlier than his trade request. I think Dame's agent has been engaged for months in conversations with the Heat FO about how to put the squeeze on Portland and to get him there for scraps. In retrospect, it's pretty obvious how little Goodwin, Dame, and Riley think of Cronin's ability to negotiate.

What a wonderful opportunity to show them how wrong they were.

Where would the Trail Blazers be right now if Neil Olshey were still the GM?

Anything different from that, I'm giving full credit to Cronin.

The GP2 trade is one of my very favorites. Cronin knew how badly the Warriors wanted him back and he just kept holding out until they capitulated. Sure, they were second round picks, but if you draft well, they can have value, either on their own or as throw-ins to move up or as part of a trade.

Heat media saying how “uncomfortable” it will be for POR if they don’t trade Dame to MIA. The idea being it would poison the franchise. I think they are underestimating the intelligence of star players and their agents. You refuse a killer offer sheet because a player didn’t get to his preferred dream team? Any player dumb enough to follow that line of thinking is best avoided. Sure maybe a guy like Ja would be convinced to avoid POR. Aww snap!

Getting out of the last two years of his contract is a win. We'll probably miss him for the next two years though, but I think our young duo of guards may surprise people.
