Where do you see portland finishing up in the standings? Do you think they should rent Nash for reminder of the year?

John Hollinger (2:26 PM)
that depends -- can you tell me which players will be injured? In all seriousness, Blazers have best point differential in West and still project to land a top-five seed according to Playoff Odds. I think the motivation to rent Nash is the real possibility that they could go to WCF or further if they got him given how wide open the West is. They already know they can play with OKC, and Clips just lost Chauncey.

I agree with this statement.

Said our 1-8 in games decided by 4 points is all just bad luck.

I'm sure some of it can be attributed to a coin flip (like that phantom goal-tending call last night) ... but just with the eyeball test I've seen some pretty crappy execution in those tight moments.

I agree with you. Don't know if I agree that luck had anything to do with our bad execution down the stretch. I think I can remember a lot of blown layups and turn overs.

I'm all for a rental of Steve Nash

Too bad it will be almost impossible to make happen

Yeah me too. It would be the perfect scenario. The one thing we have going for us though... We have good relations with the Suns. We've given them a ton of money too. That could be a consideration.

Agreed, not sure otherwise what bad luck he means, unless bad luck means poor execution.

This is where we miss Brandon Roy. A guard as a finisher is huge because they can bring the ball upcourt. Our finisher is LA, and he needs to get the ball from a guard.

You mean from our guards. There's a difference there, smh.

Brandon Roy was simply a cover up for our weakness, lack of execution/offense. He really only saved us from ourselves, now we are as exposed as ever. Glass half full though it will force us to craft an actual offense that works for the Team, no saviors here.

With both the Clippers losing Billups, and the Nuggets losing Gallinari for a bit to a chip fracture in his foot (last I read), this is prime opportunity to move up. I'm all for a rental of Nash, but it'll be hard to convince Phoenix without giving up Batum, IMO.

do we have any second round picks from this year? could we add that and then add a first round a few years later protected top 10-15? I mean really they aren't going to get really good young talent for a rental of Nash.... should be lucky if they even get picks.

Trading Batum would be a very bad move for the Blazers ( but imagine the contract he is going to command if he keeps playing like this).

Wallace is losing steam fast . . . maybe a three way with another team that wants Wallace for the playoffs.

No way in hell management parts with Batum unless we get some key young player in return. And because of that, no team will want to part with their young stud.

Nash is a rental for now. We could entice him to stay once he arrives; but that's the direction we need to take. I would be even willing to give up Wallace; just to rent Nash, but I think Phoenix may take less. If we somehow got a third team involved and gave them HUGE salary relief and some late first rounders; they may bite.

The Roy/Outlaw teams were incredible late in games.

One of the two is still available! :ghoti:

I mean it kinda makes sense for everyone doesn't it? maybe add in a pick/s for PHX?

My deal was better for Phoenix. They could have Felton for a year, a guaranteed for 2 more years in Matthews and Babbit. We would immediately take away 3 mil of their contracts off the top; plus take back a very painful contract in Childress.

If we use a third team; it would be acquiring picks to send Phoenix's way.

3-team with Milwaukee sending a protected first rounder to Phoenix.

Steve Nash and Childress goes to PDX - They trade out Nolan Smith, Felton, Wallace and Matthews

G. Wall, Matthews and Lopez go to Milwaukee - They trade out Bogut and Livingston

Bogut, Felton, Livingston, protected 1st and Smith go to phoenix - They trade Nash and Childress.

Why Milwaukee does it? They free up salary and get a center for an ailing center.

Why Phoenix does it? They get cap relief, a protected 1st plus many PGs to choose from

Why Portland does it? Nash is a winner and will win with our new ball club.

we give up too much.....

If we pursue Nash - and it is for a "rental" then we better be "adding Nash" to help this team get over the hump. Not gut this team. What would be the point?

What if Nash agrees to extend for 3 years?

So much easier for the D to collapse/doubleteam a post player then a wing, so LA is reduced to a passer or spot up jump shooter in crunch time. Pretty much Crawford has to be Portland's finisher as he's the only guy in the rotation who has demonstrated the ability to get a decent look off the dribble.

Probably so, but I sure wouldn't mind seeing Elliot Williams given a chance to grow into that role (or at least see if he's got it in him).
