September 29, 2008, 11:57 pm The New York Sun, where John Hollinger has been writing the past six years, goes out of business Tuesday. In his last column, Hollinger suggests while the Nets won’t be very good in 2008, “New Jersey has positioned itself to be in great shape by 2010″. Hollinger expresses high hopes for Devin Harris and the youthful trio of Yi Jianlian, Brook Lopez and Sean Williams, but wonders if Lawrence Frank can adjust.

Maybe Hollinger hated Kidd and RJ? He seems to be warming to the Nets. Look at that, he ran his paper out of business!

Stating the obvious with an athletic crew of promising big men, hopefully 1 is an all star and the other 2 can be NBA starting caliber players. Proven PG in Harris rolls old man time back at that position for the Nets about 5 years with Kidd out of town. VC's the leader at the 2 guard. Combo of Simmons, Hayes, Hassell, and CDR at the 3 spot. If the Nets can solidify the 1 and 5 spots ala the Hornets, building around them should be easy in the NBA.

Hollinger quote: “the Nets had insanely good fortune in close games last season, and we know from past history that this isn’t a trend that holds up from year to year — in other words, it’s basically dumb luck.”

No credit to the coach? I’m sure if they lost close games Frank would have taken the blame.

Strange for a stat fanatic to credit luck. This is a slippery slope. When is it luck and when is it skill? We can call everything luck, and just pray to Jesus.
