Post your latest house projects:
My wife and I bought a town house at the Jersey shore in July 2017 after we sold one of our investment properties for the same equity value.
It was built in 1984 and is actually the youngest house we had owned. When we bought the place, the owners moved to Florida and left everything for us. Dishes, martini glasses and furniture are only a sampling of the stuff they left behind. I changed a lot of electrical fixtures which is easy for me. Recently, we replaced the carpet. I decided to remove all the carpet on the stair assembly and create an interesting motif enhancing a nautical theme on the landing. I must have removed a thousand staples.
I will probably be limited by the mb space for pictures but here is my first post in this thread.
I removed fiberboard from the landing which was shimmed with cedar shingles to assist leveling when the carpet was applied. The height of the landing frame is about 5 feet from above floor. Of course, I dropped the tape measure in there so I had to dive in to retrieve it.
I painted the stringers and risers, sanded the wall railing, pine steps and nosing. The top of the adjoining closet also had fiber board and that was replaced too.
After the crap particle wood was removed, I had to layer the landing with ply and finish luan to meet the nose level. I left a 1/4 " space for the finish piece.
The finish piece had no knots, was stained twice with a quality stain/ poly and an excellent decal from blackdogdecals (La.) was applied. Two coats of Polyurethane presents this product.
In the last stage, I sanded steps, rails to prep for staining.
I'll wait about a week, apply touch ups and present the finished look. The divider needs either the dark stain or paint. What is your opinion?
