How bout them Beavs?

I find it funny that the people who are defending him are all Beaver fans.
The people who defended him went through that process when he was 15 the way I see it...I'm a Beaver fan but I'm not putting this kid on trial again because I don't like pedophilia...when things like this come out there's usually a lynch mob waiting around the corner

but should pro athletes be held to a higher standard than the average person
no, but coaches, teachers and priests etc should....they have authority that should be against the abuse of minors they influence.

Don't lump us all together just as I didn't lump all duck fans together that defended Dana Altman after recruiting and playing convicted rapists. I have no remorse for the kid and am just as disgusted as you are, trust me.

No, I don't think so. Playing a sport for money is not a position of trust. Who becomes role models is a matter for society to determine.

I'm not saying all Beaver fans are defending him, I'm saying that all people defending him ARE Beaver fans. Huge difference.

Crimes against children are not defensible IMO. And he molested her twice before he was arrested. My question would be if he wasn't caught would he still be attempting it? It makes me question the recidivism argument because I'm guessing no unaccompanied child was allowed within 20 feet of him since he committed these crimes.

I have no horse in this race, but the controversy this brings will overshadow him, the team, and ultimately college baseball. I would bet he's plummeting in the draft boards. Back in the day, I lost my love for the Trail Blazers when we signed Ruben Patterson even after his guilty plea for attempted rape of his nanny. I would hate to see OSU fall into this category for me.

I'm not defending him. I'm saying he was 15 years old, performed his court ordered duties, and deserves a second chance! He wasn't a grown man like Ruben Patterson.

Let's not pretend like this is one of those stupid situations where a kid sends nude photos to another kid and ends up a convicted sex offender. 15 years old is old enough to understand the gravity of this situation. It's not a statutory rape situation where he slept with a girl just a few years younger than him. This guy took a 6 year old girl to his bedroom and molested her.

Do you think there aren't crimes that a 15 year old can commit that deserve a second chance? Kip Kinkel was 15 years old when he did the shooting at Thurston High School in Springfield. Does he deserve a second chance?

Do you think this is the same as Kinkel's crime?

That's what I'm asking you. What's the line for you? You're saying "he was only 15! He deserves a second chance!"

I do not think it's as bad as Kinkel's offense. He deserves a second chance.

If Kinkel serves his sentence and shows repentence, why shouldn't he get a second chance? Nothing is "deserved", but if someone wanted to grant him one, I wouldn't begrudge it.

Is there a game scheduled today?

And if so, is it rained out? It started freaking pouring around 1:30pm at my place and it's pretty much been rainy and wet ever since

Game is scheduled for 6pm first pitch. 40% chance of rain in Corvo after 6pm so game should be a go unless thunder and lightning.

Vanderbilt is as good of a team as any team we will see in Omaha. Should be a battle. I've watched a ton of Beaver baseball over the years including every game of the back to back championship teams and this years team has impressed me the most. There is no weakness on the roster and the pitching is as good as it gets in college baseball. Pat Casey has built a power house in the north west. I'll be in attendance for the games this weekend and am already planning my trip to Omaha. Go Beavs god damnit.
Vanderbilt got shit on.

If this team goes on to win it all you could make a real argument that this is the best major sports team in the history of Oregon sports. Just incredible. Just knocked around the number 1 overall pick with our 4th best pitcher on the mound.

You could... I'll stick with the '77 Blazers until Dame wins another ship.

I hope we can close the deal. That is the best college baseball team I've ever seen.

Incredible team....watched the game last night...the broadcasters said it's a team with 9 swiss army knives...an apt description. not a weakness in the roster and doesn't need to rely on homeruns to score...Pat Casey amazes me.

Watched the Vandy game yesterday. First beavs game I've watched this year. Came away extremely impressed. What they did to that vandy starting pitcher was beyond impressive.

They now have two 20+ game win streaks (24 and 21) in a 58-game (s0 far) season.

I've been following baseball since the late 1960s and have never seen a team dominate like this at any level.

Oregon State pitcher Luke Heimlich released a statement Thursday morning, announcing that he will not accompany the No. 1-ranked Beavers to Omaha, Nebraska, for the College World Series, and that he hopes to return to Oregon State as a student-athlete next year.

The junior left-hander, 21, removed himself from action for last week's Super Regional in Corvallis after news broke that he was convicted of a juvenile sex offense at age 15 in 2011. Heimlich was not selected in the MLB draft this week.

The statement, released through family friend Robin Monsky, is the only thing Heimlich or his family will say publicly about his situation for the time being.

The statement:

"For the past six years, I have done everything in my power to demonstrate that I am someone my family and my community can be proud of, and show the one person who has suffered the most that I am committed to living a life of integrity. This situation has caused great pain to my family members over the years and I am devastated that they have to relive it all again so publicly. Today the Oregon State University baseball team is heading to Omaha for the College World Series – something my teammates, my coaches and I have worked for all year and dreamed about for a lifetime. I'm sad to say I am not joining them, because doing so would only create further distraction for my teammates, more turmoil for my family, and given the high profile of the national championship, direct even more unwanted attention to an innocent young girl. I want to wish my teammates the best. I hope they understand this decision as my family and I continue to work through this together. My hope is to return to OSU next year as a student-athlete and continue to earn the trust of my community."
