I look around at the other teams in the West and some of them are catching up fast. Utah and maybe even the Wolves, depending on how good Towns is are developing excellent young cores. I worry that we're going to be back in the wilderness very soon for a while.
We are dangerously close to being a treadmill team for many many years.

Boy, that Steve Kerr must be useless - a player scored over 30 against his team FOR THE ENTIRE FINALS!

Oh wait, his team won. Maybe that's what's important and not whether individual players go off on you? Maybe sometimes the plan is to LET some players go off so long as the team wins? How many of those games you list were Blazer losses?
Um, if LeBron had Irving and love he wouldn't be taking all those shots. The only player comparable to LeBrons situation would be Westbrook against us.

I don't agree with this at all. They have been USED the same, certainly by McMillan, but they have very different skillsets. Batum is used as a backup PG a lot of the time and never posts up, two big differences from Wes.

Sure you can find plenty of examples of both of them doing different things. But do either one of them excel at attacking the basket? Nic could be good at it, but he stops once he gets hurt. (can't really blame him for that)

Don't blame coaching on this since since AAA and Will tried when in there. (But with limited results.) Dame and CJ do it well but we need one more with size to be good at it IMO

What's with the Derozan love? He's pretty much garbage. He's the shooting guard version of Rudy Gay.

It doesn't have to be DeRosan. Find us someone else.
But calling him garbage is a little ridiculous. How many guys on the US team are really garbage?

Tyreke Evans, Monta Ellis, Tony Wroten, Jeremy Lin, etc.

I rather have any of those guys.

Monta is good, but unless you want to trade CJ I would go with someone bigger.
Lin is a back up PG as is Wroten. We need to upgrade 1 starter before we upgrade the bench.
Tyreke would be a good option.

Wroten is a big point guard who could easily fit with Dame. Lin and Ellis are just guys who I think would fit our team better than DeMar (CJ is our slasher at least). Evans would be perfect in our offense at the two, he can handle the ball and finish. Batum would be able to focus more on getting open instead of creating with Evans.

The thread is "how close are we". My point was we are one player away if we keep LMA. Although those would all be good pick ups that you mentioned, we need one upgrade at a starting position to compete. Does N.O want to trade Tyreke? For who? Monta will get big bucks as a free agent. Would he and Dame gel? Kind of a small back court and we have CJ.

I brought up DeRosan because toronto values Nic. Those salaries match. He is a 6'7" 220 lbs 25 year old all star wing.

I think another possibility is this:

POR: Andre Iguodala

Why we do it - Bring in a vet/champ who brings intensity, decent shooting and great ball movement. (Wes is gone with this deal)

GSW: JJ Redick

Why they do it - Cuts salary majorly to make room for Draymond's deal while picking up a great 6th man.

TOR: David Lee, #30

Why they do it - Fills their need for size, get a pick and Lee is expiring if it doesn't work out.

LAC: Chris Kaman, Allen Crabbe

Why they do it - Size, size, size... And a young player that they don't have many of.

Derozan being an All-Star is a sad indictment of the East. Not quite as bad as Jamaal Magloire, but pretty close.

So surely a GOOD coach would KNOW that the Cavs only have LeBron and STOP him. Just like Stotts clearly failed to stop those big games you listed.

If Aldridge would just play Center, we got a huge shot at being great. Starting Aldridge and Meyers would be pretty epic because there isn't a single player you can leave wide open.

Then let's use our MLE to grab a playmaker, preferably a PG. When Blake was fishing 5 assists per game, we were unstoppable. Problem is, he's not able to do that consistently.

I do like the idea of Batum playing small ball PF, with Aldridge or Leonard playing center. The key is to find many quick players, heady players that can make good decisions. It would be really nice to find a player that can get to the line and play some solid d.
