We aren't going to get fair value in return. It is what it is. And that's not Cronin's fault.

No, it's never his fault. He has immunity from criticism because he's not Olshey and he is nice to reporters and co-workers.

Cronin goes into big trades in scatter formation. If the Lillard trade goes through, I expect about 4 players nobody's heard of to be Blazers for a day, and 7 draft picks of various calibration.

Every little bit of draft help will be needed moving forward through cap space and flexibility. This will be Portland's 3rd season of rebuild. Picks picks picks.
Wait you think we will get 7 draft picks? Are 4 of those 2nds? Any scenario where we land SEVEN FRP's for Dame is a win, even if that's a trade to Miami somehow, which I'm pretty adamantly opposed to btw.

As long as Scoot stays, I will be fine and so will the Blazers.
Until his rookie contract runs out if Dame goes to Miami and then he is GONE. Y'all DO see that right? That if Dame gets his way this league is toast? More toast if you're already a cynic.

Is Cronin supposed to hold other GMs at gunpoint and force them to give up their best players and picks for Dame? As far as I'm concerned, Les Jeux sont Fait, and Dame is no longer part of the team. Cronin is holding out for the best deal he can get. What else is he supposed to do.

Like he did with CJ and Norm. Oh, wait...

If we come out of the Dame trade with a few first round picks and a starting quality young center and a SF or PF I'll be happy.

He wasn't forced to trade CJ and Norm. Those were decisions, possibly bad ones depending on one's perspective. Portland is not in the driver's seat here. IMO, our hand is being forced, we'll take the best package we can get, and like it. I do understand though if what you are saying is that, if Cronin is offered three different deals, you have no faith in him selecting the best one. That I get.

I will sing his praises if he can come away with Ayton and Barnes or OG.

I will be waiting with popcorn in hand for the reactions and debates that will ensue here when the dirty deed is finally done.

I'm hoping the value in whats coming back is mostly in picks attached to bloated expiring contracts. Going all in on the future would confirm management's belief they've really got something to build around in Scoot and Shaedon. I'll understand if instead the trade brings back a mixed bag of current talent and future draft assets. My level of understanding will depend on who that talent is, but thus far I've agreed with Joe & Co for the most part. What I fear is management adding bloated contracts talent that doesn't have contender upside.

I didn't vote as no option seemed to echo my views, but my expectation is the 2nd scenario.

STOMP

I won't be as disappointed for what we get for Dame as I am in Dame period. We're going to take a hit trading him. Joe was right when he said there is no equal value for Dame in his summer league interview.

if what Portland gets is Ayton and OG with no substantial draft assets, that will disappoint me a lot because the Blazers will have traded the mediocrity they had with Dame for more mediocrity. That team would have a ceiling for the next 3 or 4 years at the play-in, at best....meaning Portland's draft picks would generally suck. They'd have little chance at any more top-5 picks. The best assets near term assets Portland can get from a Dame trade are their own draft picks being top-5 over the next 2-3 seasons

I don't care about Ayton one way or the other. He's a little bit of an upgrade over Nurkic, but at twice the price. If he's the centerpiece of a Dame/Nurkic trade I'd much rather the ancillary pieces were expiring contracts on irrelevant players and several future picks/swaps than something like OG/Boucher/Trent

the only benefit of that trade is fucking Miami

If he did hold them at gunpoint that would show superb effort, but I think the league would probably void the trade

I'm going to be pissed if Dame ends up in Miami and we DON'T get Jaquez. With all our gunners we need somebody to do the dirty work - a Shane Battier/Dime Store Draymond type.

Agreed. I can see why Miami does not want to include him. He fits their identity perfectly. He is a bigger "Hart".
Josh might run a lot harder up and down the court, but Jaquez is going to fill the stats sheets. And he can switch off onto a PF with no problem (225 lbs) End-of-game perimeter defensive lineups with Scoot, Thybulle, Sharpe, Jaquez, and Grant has potential.

I'm starting to get excited that Dame is NOT going to Miami. To me that is worth quite a lot. If we end up with OG+++ and Ayton for Dame and Nurk and Miami is out of the picture, I will be close to ecstatic.

Where did Dame not going to Miami come from?

No idea. I believe he is going to Miami
Ah OK. I didn't see this when I posted the other. I hope with every fiber of my being that your belief is wrong. I am pretty certain Lillard to Miami is the death knell of the league, so I want to avoid that at all costs.
