Here's a quick write-up on his impending free agency from an Insider article written March 7:
I think Lillard and Evans would be an elite young backcourt. Are the Kings going to match big offers (leaving us Hibberted)? What would they seek in a sign-and-trade as the author suggests?
Tyreke Evans | SG | Sacramento Kings
I've written about Evans a couple of times this season, saying he should have been extended last summer and calling him one of the top players under 25 years of age. While his per-game numbers are down, he's improved his efficiency tremendously, and is posting career highs in many advanced categories including offensive and defensive rebounding percentages. Most notably, Evans' 3-point percentage has risen to a very respectable 35 percent (after never cracking 30 percent in his career), and he's reduced his turnovers considerably (12.8 turnover percentage) to a career low.
Evans' agent will probably point to DeMar DeRozan's $38 million, four-year extension as a starting point in any negotiation with the Kings, but a better strategy might be to negotiate a sign-and-trade away from Sacramento and into a better situation. The misfit roster of shoot-first players, inconsistent coaching and uncertain ownership situation have made for a poor developmental environment for Evans, and a fresh start elsewhere may ultimately lead to richer deals down the road.
