How Loved would Jeter Be

If he said look, we are in a bad position here as an organization. I'm going to give you the hometown discount and a gift basket I usually reserve for my female guest. For a man who wants to secure his place in Yankee history, I feel it would be worth millions long after he finally retires. I understand that there is money on the table, but he has always been different.

I've always believed that Jeter will do what is best for his team. Like many Yankee fans I'm hoping he can come back for one more successful season.

If he didn't have the kind of year he had in 2012, it would be easy to walk away. But he owes it to himself to see. As a Jeter fan, I would love nothing but a movie like ending for his career whenever it comes. With that said, could it top Mo's farewell.

...it's just gonna be so much harder for Jeter than it was for Mo to return and live up to expectations...unlike Jeter, Mo's knee did not require much running in order to perform his job. All he had to do was come in for the 9th inning and throw 10-15 fast balls. Jeter, on the other hand, is required to run and suddenly change directions laterally...not to mention the pounding his ankle endures by running the bases.
...love Mo, but I just think Jeter has a much steeper hill to climb...but if he can somehow do it next year I'll be somewhat surprised, but still as happy as anyone else.

Honestly I really don't think anyone is expecting anything big from Jeter in 2014. and most (in his final year) would just be happy if he hit in the 250-260 range with 5-10 HRs & 50 rbi. Anything more then that would be a surprise IMO.

Also unlike Mo I don't see Jeter announcing his retirement to avoid all the city by city fanfare. Nothing against Mo, I just don't see Jeter wanting all that praise & attention that he would get.

...they don't have to wait on Jeter to decide...if between now and then the right opportunity and the right player come along, they need to go ahead and sign him anyway, regardless of Jeter's status...they also may need a 3Bman, 2Bman, and 1Bman...some SSs can also play some of those other positions.

I hope he gets what Mo got as well, but honestly, Mo was the best ever at his position... while Jeter is iconic, especially in NY, I don't think he is as revered across baseball as was Mo.

I watched Mantle struggle in his final season hitting in the 230 s & although it was great just seeing him it was also sad to watch the way he went out. So because of that NO! I don't want to see Jeter hit 200.

As far as the fanfare for what most likely will be his final season, part of what many loved about Mo was his overall approachable demeanor. People saw him as just a nice guy who always seemed to have a smile. While Jeter as much as he's loved appears to be a bit stand offish & unapproachable. And like I said in an earlier post I really don't see Jeter getting into the whole city to city celebrations. I just see him as more of NOT wanting to much attention. JMO.

On Jeter, I don't see him announcing his retirement before any given season because I think he will be one of those players that won't accept that his career is done and he can no longer play at a high level until he sees it for himself with his performance. He couldn't get healthy last year... I'm not as much worried about performance but more about just being healthy... I think if he can actually use his ankle like he should be able to, he'll be fine... health is my major concern for him...
