Not sure where you got those numbers, but if anything, the jail time for teachers should be more. They are put in a position of trust and responsibility with children. They are paid and licensed by the state to develop the minds of children. Exploiting their positions of authority to have sex with kids violates that trust and does irreparable psychological damage to the kids they abuse. Joke all you want about that 15-year old stud banging his hot teacher, but that kid is going to have issues down the road because of this.

How old were you? 13 and 19 are both "teens" but there's a huge difference in emotional maturity between a 13-year old and a 19-year old. Also, was the woman you had sex with your teacher, or other person of authority? When an emotionally immature person is taken advantage by a person who is supposed to be mentoring them it can lead to trust issues.

As far as a couple million each, your number is inflated. In Portland, the Catholic Archdiocese reached a settlement of $75 million awarded to 177 victims (that's $423,000 each). In Seattle, 160 victims settled for $48 million ($300,000 each) and in Boston 552 victims divided up $85 million (about $154,000 each). So, it hardly seems like these victims of sexual abuse were scamming anybody for "a few million dollars each".

Those are good articles. They name a half-dozen victims and have quotes from relatives. In other words, the police aren't really keeping it as "confidential" as the first sentence in the article claims. Now it makes more sense.
