Yesterday 6 redzone stops and no points!!! You can't ask more from a D that was put into really bad spots by our offense suprisingly!!! Our secondary looked fast and able to attack large recievers and read their zones quite well! Our LB's and line cracked pads all night! The defense without a doubt won this game!


This will not be popular but it's honest to say that had our offense dug that kind of hole in the 1st quarter against a team like Bama, their defense would have capitalized on our mistakes and we'd have been down 14 if not 21 by half. We need to clean it up and cut down the stupid penalties! The play calling in the first quarter was not strong... I understand that DAT is being looked at by the world right now but running him in between tackle is not smart! Good way to get him hurt... Marcus needs to notch down his Brett Favre just a tad, forward lateral into coverage not a great play... He's young! He'll improve every week so I'm not concerned.

Colt added a crinkle that no team in the Pac-12 is going to be able to deal with. A 6'4 power back at 260 is pretty much a nightmare to bring down, he's a LOAD!! I loved that Addison got a TD pass and the cool Mariota used to get the ball to him!

We were very lucky in some ways last night, any honest Duck fan will admit to that!

That said i feel a ton better about our defense last night than I have all year and they deserve the game ball without question!!

I agree; I'm glad this game was against Arizona and not LSU/Alabama. Though now that that the colt's out of the bag, I'm feeling okay about our ability to push past the SEC heffers on the line.

I have a question about one of the defense players. There was a player that Ducks stole at the last second during signig day. He was project to be a stud offensive lineman, but came to Oregon with a promise to develop him as a defender. Arik is his first name?

Is he red shirting or playing? How has he been playing? Is he a big part of the defense success? I don't recall hearing his name called . . . of course it would help if I know his name.

I don't think its safe to say either let alone both will be starting next year. Bair and Balducci are projected as DTs for the Ducks not SSDEs. Oregon returned it's top 4 DTs from last year plus added a highly regarded Jr. College transfer (Ebert) who Redshirted last year which allowed them to move Hart outside. This stacked depth chart is why the Ducks have the luxury of Redshirting SB & AB. The one spot on the D-Line where a starter graduated was at SSDE... they also graduated his backup. That starting spot is Taylor Hart's now and barring injury, odds are that it will continue to be through next year. Good for Arik and DeForest winning the 2nd and 3rd string SSDE roles, but certainly the depth chart at that spot was far more favorable there then anywhere else. French plays the Drop End spot behind Jordan and Washington who both played there last year... didn't Wheels and I recently explain to you the difference between the DE positions?

It's (of course) more likely then your prediction a few months back that they'd be starters this year. When Chip called DeForest a man among boys, he was referring to him in HS. It seems you're trying really hard to get away from what started this... your "safe bet" that both Buckner and Arik will be starters next year. For me anyway, safe bets are things that you know are going to happen... the sun rising in the East etc. Despite your assurances that it's in the bag, I'm willing to take that bet. Barring injury or something else that takes an incumbent starter out, I bet that both are not named starters coming out of fall camp next year. To be clear, if only one earns that honor, you still lose.

these off tangent rants of yours are a hoot! According to rivals, Michael Oher was the 7th rated OT his year (2005) coming out of HS... there have been easily 50+ Offensive Lineman ranked higher since. Arik was always going to be a D-Lineman at Oregon... always. Only out of the loop fan speculation had him elsewhere. Yes Colt played LB in HS (as well as RB & WR) but Chip welcomed him to the flock at the initial class intro following LOI day as a TE. "Talent puts ya on the field", but injury keeps you off with French being an example of that according to coach Osborne (so sorry to make you look something up for once). Kelly welcomed him as an athlete at that class's initial presser, siting his play at LB in the Army AA game and even as a Kick Returner in HS. Want to learn more about CF? He didn't start playing football until his Jr. year and his HS team rarely threw the ball. Since his signing, Oregon added several experienced highly rated TE prospects, so his move to the Drop End spot became another matter of the depth chart. Dude will be competing with Tony Washington and Cody Carriger for the starting spot next season instead of Lyerla, Koa-Ka'ai, Brown, Daniel & Baylis.

Neither Arik or DeForest seem to be priming themselves for the Drop End DE spot that Dion Jordan plays. Coming out of HS they weren't particularly fast for DLineman where dropping them into coverage on a semi-regular basis would seem like the best use of their talents. Since then they've been packing on weight preparing for war in the trenches. In Oregon's Defensive scheme the SSDE spot is pretty interchangeable with the DT opposite the NT spot that Wade & Ricky Heimuli play. I'm betting Taylor Hart remains a starter through his Sr. year as he's pretty fn good. I'm stoked that he's got good support around him, but he's their 2nd best Dlineman after Jordan.

It's a lock that both of the Freshman are going to surpass him? Really??? I want to apologize to everyone who takes offense at me mocking things I find ridiculous, but thats probably going to continue.

So do you agree that it's very likely that Buck & Arik both surpass Taylor Hart? To me that seems very unlikely. It's pretty clear that they aren't NTs or Drop Ends so that's basically what is being claimed

so I watched that play again, and surprise surprise, you don't know what you're talking about. Yes AA hit the QB who limped off the field, but not before he got a pass off for a completion. That anyone would think a completed pass was a sack oh and the Spring game that Arik played in was on May 1st or 5 months ago... the Spring practices he participated in started over a month before that. Math isn't your friend, but we already knew that

Since he Redshirted his first year, this is actually Hart's 4th year under Aliotti (Chip often has been quoted that he only coaches the Offense). Along with smarts and experience, he's got great size, athleticism, & a motor that won't stop. My guess is he'll play on Sundays. Still willing to take you up on your sure bet be it sig bet or whatever... but you seem to be backing down while throwing the kitchen sink
