This is gonna be a big storm. Most likely a tropical storm when it loops to the Houston area. Expected 25 to 40 inches of rain in next 5 days. For perspective, Portland gets 44 inches per year. Average for Nation is 35 inches per year
Hope you and your family are safe from it all man.....best to you through the storm!

Categories aren't the end all, be all though. Katrina had a storm surge much bigger than Harvey will have IMO. Harvey's a different beast all together. Basically like Tropical Storm Allison, but 3 times stronger.

This. It will be more of a rain event. Lots of flooding.

This is going to be a Top 3 hurricane in U.S. history in terms of how much damage it does. IR loop shows convection exploding in the past half hour or so. It's very possible this thing could be a category 4 before landfall.

Last hurricane to make landfall as a category 4 in the US? Hurricane Katrina

Convection? Storm surge? Uhhh....I'll take your word for it.

Let this forevermore be known as the thread in which we learned that @BonesJones is the forum's preeminent weather geek.

I'm thinking Bones is bucking to be the next Rob Marciano.........lovin' up all the local news hotties before moving on to the national stage...... :byebye:

This shit is really bad, the bayou is going to go over the banks and all hell will break loose.

Im good. Lots of rain, slight roof damage, pool crested, no loss of power....yet. streets in neighborhood are fine because our subdivision is elevated slightly.

It's really bad in most areas though.

Thanks for letting us know. Watching the national news and the flooding looks horrific.

You stocked up on food and water? I image the grocery stores are cleaned out.
