watching usa basketball team clips it got me thinking about how these two compare to each other. if you switch them around and irving is on the blazers, where are we considered in the playoff picture? I personally I don't think irving is that much better but I feel like nationally people would say we are a playoff team. kevin pelton just rated the twolves ahead of us for the projected 8 spot.....really?

Irving was quite a bit better in head to head matches last year, so i think we would be better. Hopefully Lillard has closed the gap this summer though.

I think Irving is better I dont think its that much better and I agree the gap is closing. With that said, and I dont know how else to word this, it seems like Irving plays "bigger" or "taller" and Im not sure why I say that other than the eye test.

Irving is a 21+ PER guy, Lillard a 16.4 PER guy.

No doubt Irving is the better player.

We haven't seen Lillard's second season, tho. I expect a solid upgrade in his game.

Lets see in a year.

Irving seems to miss games and lillard so far has not. I think Irving on our team last year missing 20+games would have made us worse than we were with lillards 82.

Irving is much more talented than Lillard. I love Damian, but given the chance to trade him for Kyrie, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

You put Irving in with a dominant big like Aldridge and they are a playoff team. I love Lillard, but Irving is a fucking man child!

The knock on Irving isn't his talent, but his health. He needs to stay healthy.

With that said, Dame did average more points and more assists than Irving as a rookie :dunno:

kyrie is absolutely sublime, might be my favorite player

dude is unbelievable

Dame is already my favorite bball player but you can only be a big-time homer if you said you wouldn't trade him straight up for Irving.

Luckily we don't have to worry about that decision. It isn't going to happen.

I would not trade Lillard straight across for Irving. Lillard has Iron Man in the making. Kyrie (I am a HUGE fan BTW) is always hurt.

He missed 15 games his rookie season. He missed 23 games in 12-13. Not to mention he only played in 11 of the 40 games Duke played in 2011.

That is fine, you are just a homer (as am I in MANY other areas that have to do with the Blazers).

The NBA is too unpredictable. Irving could just as easily play all 82 games the next two seasons and Lillard could get hurt (knocking on wood that it doesn't happen!).

Call me what you want but I'll take a healthier point guard with a chiseled 5.9% body fat over the one who is injured ALL 3 of the past seasons with 10.2%.

Honestly body fat has no bearing in this discussion. There are Hall of Fame players with very high body fat (Barkley is just one quick example). And there are plenty of players in the league with low body fat who are scrubs.

Injuries is all you had to mention (and you did) and I would agree that it is concerning.

Don't worry, I'm with you man. I have a feeling Lillard may become our best blazer ever.

I can talk shit about Fatty Kyrie if I want! :MARIS61:

No but the video above had me at "he's more of an assist guy". Damian IMO will always average more assists than Kyrie.

(don't think I'm a Kyrie hater or doubt his talent. I know he at this point is better than Dame. I'm just a bigger fan of the more athletic, healthier guy.

Guys. Guys! GUYS! How about we just trade the drafts rights to Federico Kammerichs to the Cavs for Irving and then we can start them both together?!?!?

Oh wait, then our backcourt would be too small, nevermind, Carry on!

I actually don't get why someone is called a homer because they wouldn't trade Lillard for Ivring at the moment. Irvings rookie year was not as good as Lillards, take from that what you want, and who is to say that Lillard doesn't come out and have a sophomore year that is better then Irvings. Yes irving is 2 years younger but just because your younger doesn't mean you have higher upside or even if the player does, it doesn't mean they will actually develop that upside. Irving has lots of ?? about his health Lillard doesn't, both are considered great shooters who are horrible on D.
Pretty much what i'm getting at is that Irving has 1 more year in the league then Lillard and had time to develop more of his game and became a near superstar due to a great Sophomore season. There is nothing saying Lillard can't do that and if you just look at them from the end of their respective rookie seasons then its not all that ridiculous to say that Lillard has just as bright of a future as Irving.
I would trade Lillard for Irving right now because Irving is a better player at the moment and took that huge steps in his second season but I think Lillard can take just as big of steps as Irving did and it wouldn't surprise me if Lillard/Irving become the new CP3/DW debate.

I think we know now who wins the CP3/DW debate. Lillard/Irving already is the debate. And I wouldn't trade my healthy guy over the one who is constantly injured. I don't care if he "gets buckets" (love that BTW. Kyrie is HILARIOUS for doing that).

I'm just happy with the #6 pick, we got a player of Lillard's caliber. I'm pretty sure some people above us would like a redo of that draft.

Thats true but there were a couple of years (08-11 I believe) that it was an actual debate that was on ESPN a lot. I know making it on ESPN doesn't mean its anything but i'm just using that as an example of the fact it was a discussion topic.
