Say you could trade for Embid or Gianis and you are guaranteed to play for championship for next two years would you give up Sharpe, Scoot, Deni and Tou to have that shot? Or do you enjoy the building of the team and hope it works out? I mean the whole reason we watch is for championship or at least that’s what we think, I don’t think I’d make the trade even though I want a championship.

problem with this is there's no guarantee either of those guys win you a championship....see Dame joining the Bucks or Harden joining Embiid in Philly or even Luka joining Lebron... Joe knows we need depth and balance in the roster...the days of paying all your money to KD to win a chip are long gone in my view.

Lamelo under Billups would be super interesting.

Giannis - easy yes

Embiid is close to medical retirement. Easy no.

All 4 of those guys for one player? Sure, if the player was young enough to build around, if it didn't work out. But not for a 31-year-old who has a long history of injuries and who disappears in the playoffs. (Embiid) Superstars can't win shit without help.

Giannis is a better option, but still, he has an opt-out after two years, and Dame is not playing this year. So, even though this is a hypothetical question, I would need him to sign an extension, which I don't think he would do in Portland.

Most stars have shown they need help to win it all. I think Dame and Jrue will be too old for this scenario.

im guaranteeing you one to two years of playing in championship but you lose all those players so you start rebuild again in few years

No

I don't believe you can guarantee that for the reasons I stated....KD teamed with Booker...nothing...all the examples of superstars pairing up have not produced championships recently...those guys are getting older, slower and more injury prone..Golden State's dynasty happened because they were willing to pay a gazillion dollars in luxury tax...now they can't do that.

Too open ended of a question. Some teams built to win now i don't think we’re contenders. Some teams that win now also didn't look like contenders, so i guess id like to define “win now” a bit more.

No to both players. They arent good enough for a future championship.

I’ve said this in multiple threads already.
You get a chance to trade for a perennial All Star and compete for a championship you better take that swing for the fences every time. Anything less is would be criminal.

I mostly agree. I think it depends on the All-Star. There are some All-Stars that I personally have a very low opinion of. Trae Young is a 4 time All-Star and I don't think he's worth the fuss.

You have a point for sure. It would have to be an All Star in the MVP conversation at least.

Here is last year's top 12 in the MVP race
SGA and Jokic for sure.
But most of the others I would not. (Mainly because of age/injury)

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander,
Nikola Jokić,

Giannis Antetokounmpo,
Jayson Tatum,
Donovan Mitchell
LeBron James
Cade Cunningham
Anthony Edwards
Stephen Curry,
Jalen Brunson
James Harden
Evan Mobley

Giannis is the only one that could be available in the next year or two AND actually put you into contention.

Giannis, no. Embiid, no. Fuck this assembling superteams thing.
I don't think Giannis and what's leftover would be a super team. I think he'd be the only legit all star left.

And would still probably be our most legit shot at a championship since the 4th quarter which must remain unnamed.

Just no. It's the kind of hypothetical that's just not really a hypothetical. [dollars, talent suck, injuries from others required, sugar highs aren't that much fun as an adult ...]
Inevitably, it doesn't make for a good story or wanting to talk about it when it's over -- immediately or years from now.

Trading Scoot and Sharpe? Okay. Young players who I like and hope for, but they are not yet guys who have earned being a "keeper" status. [Keeper is not the same as untouchable.]

Trading Deni and Toumani? No. Just no. I've waited too long for real forwards who play both ends. Even then, they have work to do.

Nice! I was sitting in downtown Seattle, King County Jail during that infamous 12 minutes. I remember the whole cellblock was livid over that and I remember being surprised because most people in Seattle were rivals to Rip City back then. I think it went to show just how egregious it was that even our local rivals were up in arms about it.
Imagine spending almost 3 weeks in jail for possessing less than a (2.8) eighth of a plant that is now legal to possess….

I have a friend with a felony on his record because he grew a few of those plants on his porch when he was 20... 35 or 40 years ago...
