This is another danger to Real Americans that will be eliminated once the wall is built.

Autobahn speeds on the wrong side of traffic? Clearly an illegal alien refugee from europe.

When i was a kid we moved to scotland for a while. I remember leaving a castle sight seeing trip and my dad spacing out and driving on the right side of the road, until we came around a corner and a double decker bus almost hit us head on.

Reading these stories reminds me of some dangerous driving I used to do when I was a teenager. I had a 1989 Chrystler LeBaron 2-door coupe with a 2.5 liter turbo-charged 4 cylinder and 175 HP. That thing was an absolute animal, and I'm glad I grew up, lol.

I did 130+ MPH (I stopped looking at the speedometer after 132) once on I-205 NB from Mill Plain Blvd to SR-500. I just moved over into the far left lane and floored the bitch.

I think the smell of burning oil and the fact that I was burying the electronic tachometer into the yellow was a sign that I should slow down.

I think I had that car for maybe 2 years before the computer finally crapped out in 2002. Probably a good thing....but I miss that car soooo bad.

I had a 69 cutlass s hardtop with a toronado 425 with a 4 barrel carb and 4 wheel drum brakes.

I'd load it with friends and we'd fly all over in that car at 100 plus.

The brakes wouldn't lock up with both feet pressing the pedal driving on rainy roads.
Lucky to be alive

I too have driven too fast. I'll still regularly get up to 80 on the free way at times, which isn't good. It used to be a mission of mine to drive as fast as I could on the freeway, but when the transmission in that car died I decided to try and be a safer driver. I figure I'll drive slower every year until I'm 75 and pissing people off with how slow I go.

Dang man, glad you are alive to tell us about it. What was your girls reaction? Was she flipping out? How was the "we almost died sex?" Not many get to experience that :)
I only got a "we almost died blowie" but I probably wouldn't have got that if I hadn't almost killed us. I'm speaking of the time I almost drove across the train tracks against the lights just as an Amtrak flew by at full speed.

This reminds me of a story my father told me once. Back when he was a young man, still drinking and partying hard, he was at a party with his girlfriend. When the party was over, his buddy drove a few people home in his Oldsmobile 442 Cutlass (not sure what year the car was, but this incident would probably have been in the mid 1970s or so). According to my father, the guy kept it gorgeous, and it was extremely fast.

His buddy wanted to pick up a friend of his at another party, but there was no room in the Cutlass. So my father decided to call it a short night and told his buddy to drop him and his girlfriend off at his house. That way, his buddy could go to the party and drive more people around.

So he drops my father and his girlfriend off, and then drives off. 5 miles later, he totals the car and kills a passenger, and puts him and the other people in the car in the hospital (and oh yeah....they were all absolutely wasted). His buddy was charged with DUI and vehicular manslaughter, but I'm not sure what happened to him.

When they went to the junkyard to collect what was left inside, they pulled the 8-track tape that was inside the car and popped it into the player in the car they had with them.

The song that played was "The End" by The Doors.

I may have a couple of details wrong (the guy might have dropped my father's girlfriend off while my father was still at the party...), but that's about the gist of it. My father is almost 60 today, and that incident, complete with the song he found on that 8-track, still creeps the fuck out of him.

Probably a suicide attempt. We had one just like it on hwy 26 east a month or two ago.

Probably drunk. If suicide attempt what a shitty thing to do to someone else.

Yeah, but it happens. I remember as a kid, we were moments away from being right where a wrong-way driver crashed his car head-on into another, committing suicide.

I had a guy in oncoming traffic blow a tire, swerve to his right onto the shoulder, then he overcorrect to the left and rolled over across my lane and into the ditch on my side. I was close enough that debris flying off during his rollover hit my windshield. The way he rolled, and from the shape of the SUV when it stopped, I don't know how the heck he wasn't killed. Just a few scrapes and bruises, IIRC. this was on Highway 34 just between I5 and Lebanon, four lanes wide...

At least you have a visual chance if they're coming at you....I got hit from behind by a drunk driver in the slow lane on interstate 80 on the way from Tahoe to San Francisco...he was going 130 and I was going about 65....looked in the rear view mirror and all I saw were two ribbons of light...totaled my car and hurt my band members in the back seat..ruined a lot of musical gear...the guy went to jail for drunk driving..plead guilty..I.bought the car the day before the trip...hadn't transferred my insurance yet....it was Christmas eve....sucked big time....not an expensive car but still..

Have any of you almost been hit by a wrong way driver?

Technically, yes. Back in college I was front-ended in the drive-through of a Wendy's. They must have changed their minds about eating. I don't think it caused any damage. I survived.

Of course I've also been smack dab in the middle of a 6 car pile up on I-5... that was fun.

That would be scary. We're you a part of that pile up or was it a lot of action all-around you and you evaded it Nascar style?

I was definitely a part of it. I think I was the 3rd car, so right smack dab in the middle. I remember seeing smoke from the car in front of me as it braked hard, and I was at least able to brake a bit before I hit them, then I got hit from behind, and then I felt at least two more crashes from the cars behind them.

So I picked up my girl from the Red Lion Hotel in Jantzen Beach a couple hours ago. On the way back to my home in Vancouver, I'm relaxed, sitting in the fast lane on I-5 and there's no ones around me.

Suddenly, as I round a corner, headlights appear on the wrong side of the barrier. It took me a second before I really realized what was happening. This motherfucker is driving the wrong way, in my lane, headed straight for me!!!

In a split second, I slammed on my brakes and veered off to the right out of his way. This dude had to be going 100mph, and I had almost no time to swerve.

Luckily, there was no one to my right, and I ended up fine. Half a mile up the road, a car had been totaled, and they said they lost control swerving out of this dudes way.

Had I not had my eyes peeled, I'd likely be dead right now. I never understood the what it felt like to have your life flash before your eyes until tonight. That was the scariest moment of my life.

HOLY SHIT! I'm so glad you're ok brother... Jesus..

I wonder if that's the "safest" place to be in a pile up. I'd bet you don't want to be the first car getting hit, second might not be too bad as long as car 3 was paying attention. Then you'd have to think by car 5 they would notice and have their breaks down faster than cars 2,3, and 4. Then by that point you've got a nice cushion behind you as long as someone doesn't completely slam into the back car.

Either that or it's like a newtons cradle... Did you feel each successive impact as if it were you being hit?

I wonder who is at liability in that situation? Does the person in the back get stuck with the liability for everyone? Or were you liable for the person in front of you only...

Reminds me of a video I saw last year:

Man, that is some terrifying shit. That's I-80 in Wyoming from a blizzard in 2015.

All people are my brothers and sisters...

I may disagree and argue with lots of you, but the last thing I want to hear of is one of my Blazer Brethren to be killed or hurt in any way.

Bruh! :cheers::smiley-hug:

*sniffles*

I'M SORRY I'M SUCH A RIGHT-WING DICK, DVISS!

You're so nice. I can think of 5 or 6 ways HCP getting hurt would make me at least laugh a little. I don't want him to ever die though. Immortality for HCP!!!

What a nightmare. The white beds of the truck probably made the stopped semi's near impossible to see in that blizzard, hence why people were so late to apply the breaks. Getting hit by a Semi at free way speeds would really suck. People underestimate how much damage a car on car accident can do, even if its just 15 mph.

Word!

I believe we all originate from the same place and therefor must all be here for a similar reason. My philosophy is that should there indeed be an "afterlife" I wouldn't be surprised to find out that someone I considered to be my enemy in this reality, is actually my friend.
