July 4-5th, 2015, will always be remembered among Blazer fans as a landmark day. We lost most our squad but we didn't lose our TEAM. We lost a moody All-Star but we gained a leader in Dame. And when the media was picking a part the organization, the most stout hearted fans stood up for Olshey. It's at the worst times that we truly find out who we are as fans. We are Rip City, USA. And for me at least, it has been a quick turn around BECAUSE of this board's resilience. I can't wait to sit with you and boo LMA when he comes back to Moda..... I wish I were Elvis I would buy you all Cadillacs!

Nice post. Except, when the time comes ( cause time heals everything) I think I will applaud LMA. I know most think he stiffed us, but were talking about a lifetime changing decision. I would have thoroughly investigated ALL of my options once things derailed last year too.

I fear for your safety!

Happy for the team, but...
I'll rooting against Wes and LMA.
OTOH I'll be rooting for Robin and Batum.

Great post except for the part about booing LMA. He deserves a standing ovation for how he's helped this franchise for so many years.

yep!

Lamarcus is and was always overrated and the other players leaving weren't getting the same contracts before the Blazers. I'm rooting for all of them and am willing to accept a season of not being contenders because I feel we weren't real contenders.
This new team is maybe not even playoff bound but should allow us to get a look at some younger players and develop some tools for the future. Players should get minutes and opportunity and allow us to see who fits long-term and give the team a new start. I thought by the end of last season chemistry turned from strength to weakness and that's also why some of the players chose not to stay but I believe we brought some very good indians and established a better heirarchy. I think it'd be a fun season, even though it probably wouldn't end with a championship, build on what we have and open the window.

Sorry, guys, but you're in denial. It's very possible that this whole clusterfuck is Wes' fault. He wanted to be the second option (presumably behind his friend LMA), and that was not going to happen here, so he wanted out. LMA likely said, "if my best friend on the team is bailing, I'm going to too." LMA was jealous of Lillard, it seems like Wes was too.

I hope he stays healthy, but if he does he's bucking a league-wide trend. I think he's screwing the Mavs big time. He wanted $15 mil, of course we didn't make him an offer. We might have after LMA signed, but I think Wes doomed us there.

Yeah, he did so much to build a team we could cheer for. Then abandoned it before we reached our potential. Yay team!
I think a good portion of the people feel we actually did reach our potential with the team as it was. Maybe I'm looking at it the wrong way though.

We had a lot of cap space this summer to make that next step.

It wasn't the time to blow the team up. Come on, we had two allstars and a bunch of cap space and young players that we could move/trade.

not saying youre 100% wrong. But history of Free Agency doesn't lead me to err on the side of caution with us landing difference making FA's.

Umm dude. Did you not see what everyone signed for with other teams? Our cap space would be gone and we wouldn't be any better than last year. Now we might have been able to make moves with our bench and find another solid rotation guy, but we were close to maxed out and didn't have the missing pc. I think we were closer than most, but the train still hit the station and was done.

He did stiff us. As is his right. And I will turn my back on him. As is mine. Trust me I will never applaud LaMarcus Aldridge. His lack of respect and appreciation for the support he has received from Blazers fans will not be forgiven. May Tex The Diva rot in the purgatory of Duncan's Shadow.

We could have gone over the cap with our UFA due to bird rights.
If Aldridge stayed, we likely would have at least gotten Monroe, then others would sign for cheap.

We would of still had significant cap space even after resigning LMA, Wes, and Lopez? I dont think so.

We would have signed other players first, then we could go over the cap with everyone else.

No, because the cap holds were large enough that we only had 2.4M in cap space without renouncing LA, Wes, or Rolo. We couldn't even sign Aminu without renouncing one of them.

Assuming the Blazers sign a max free agent (hopefully Aldridge), how much room would they have if they retained the cap holds for Lopez and Matthews? Under that scenario, the salary situation would look like this:

The Blazers would only have about $2.4 million in cap space available, which would not be enough to complete the Aminu signing.
