Bummer. Lifetime Oregon resident, but I have moved 7 times in the past 15 years. The last time I move I sent my voter registration in and they sent it back stating I need to send them a copy of a utility bill with my name and address on it. Problem was... I just moved in to my wife's house... and the utilities were in here name. Didn't get a ballot for this election and realized I spaced resending the change of county stuff... so I call county elections and they say no problemo... just come in with form and we will give you a ballot. Take it and they say sorry... you have been purged from books for not voting, and it is too late to register. Now watch... next election I will not get a ballot... then go in to the office... and they will say... sorry... too late to register.

Beofre the vote by mail stuff you could register the day of the election couldn't you?

What's funny is that was your 911st post.

Just go find a union rep or local ACORN office. Trust me, so long as you vote left, they will take care of all 30 of your votes for each candidate.

That sucks. It doesn't matter if we disagree on the issues, but I'll fight for the right of any legal citizen to vote. There should be a way around this situation.

There was a mix up like this for me when I went to go vote for John Kerry. They still let me vote, though. It was a provisional ballot.

You are aware ACORN closed down, right?

Or did you block me?

It is my fault... I shouldn't have waiting so long. I knew there was a registration deadline... but though I was already registered... just needed to change county. I went from Columbia Country, to Multnomah... to Washington... missed 2 elections, and I guess that is grounds to remove you from being registered. My *guess* is the when I sent the voter registration in and it was returned (it was right after a move) then sent it back maybe because my address on my DL didn't match? Not sure... but this time they didn't ask for any utility bill or anything.

You know that Voters Registration is done online now right?

ACORN didn't really close down. It just split up into a number of smaller organizations.

So..you could say it's just a bunch of smaller nuts now!

HA! Bazinga!

Just tell them you're a democrat. They'll let you vote.

Online or with card. Again... last time I sent the card in they sent it back too close to the election for me to register... so I figured I'd go into the office this time.

About 4 years ago I was voting at a polling place and they had some forms out from the 1950's. One of them was for when a registered voter died the form was to be filled out and turned in to remove them from the rolls. The problem with the form was that it was supposed to be signed by the registered voter. I asked one of the officials about it and she laughed and told me that no matter how old a voter form was it was to be placed out until the feds withdrew it and that dead voter form had not been formally withdrawn.
