There’s been a lot of excitement about the Carmelo Anthony signing in the last couple of days, and I’ve been doing my best to get on board, but I have a queasy feeling in the pit of my stomach. Am I the only one?

Why hasn’t any other NBA team offered to give this guy a chance? There are some lousy teams out there, and yet none of them felt Anthony could help them. What does that tell you? And what about all these NBA players tweeting their joy over Anthony joining Portland? Why didn’t any of them try to get him on their team? In this age of player power and guys demanding to play with certain other players, why didn’t any of the NBA’s big stars demand that their team acquire Anthony?

I’ve seen some NBA analysts saying that Portland’s isolation offense could be a good fit for Anthony, but this seems weak to me, as if Portland is the only team in the league on which Anthony can thrive. It seems highly unlikely that Portland somehow holds the magic key to reviving Anthony’s career, and that no other NBA team does. It seems much more likely that Anthony has lost his shooting touch because he doesn’t have the same bounce in his legs anymore, and that he just can’t guard today’s younger and faster players.

All I know is, something doesn’t add up. Money does not fall from the sky, and All-Star forwards who can still be productive don’t sit around for a year and then fall into your lap. It just feels too good to be true.

I hope I’m wrong. I want Anthony to come into Portland and help turn the Blazers around. I want to see a rebirth of his career in Portland, and I’m praying that he helps us get a championship in the 50th year of the franchise. Nothing would make me happier, but I just have this sinking feeling.

Im thinking the Blazers are simply looking to plug a hole with stretch shooter to give them 12-15 minutes a night. If he bags practice and his ultra ego becomes an issue he gone.

Yep, I hear what you’re saying, but a lot of teams have the same need, and none of them have given Anthony a call. Do they know something we don’t?

you have a sinking feeling and you're feeling queasy?

either get your ears checked or get a new recliner

Oh boy, I think he’s gonna get much more than 12-15

Hilarious! It’s probably my recliner. Maybe I’ll run out and get a new one tomorrow.

Why does it matter if it doesn’t work?
It doesn’t really matter in the long run, but you know the Portland fans are hoping like hell that Anthony can be the spark plug that helps get us a championship.

I don't see him being a pain in the ass. He's 35, this is pretty much his last chance. Dame and CJ aren't the type of egos to clash. I have pretty moderate to low expectations. He hasn't played in a year, I expect some ugly bricks early on. Who knows though, maybe he still has some fire.

We'll see on Tuesday or more likely, Thursday with the world watching on TNT against Giannis Antetokounmpo.

I just want him to come out and show that he's still got it cause the dude was a beast back in his prime. Even if he has 2-3 games where he goes Melo in the playoffs could be huge.

Not saying Melo = Championship

But I'm prepping for the parade son!

Yep. As we saw with Hood last year, one shot here and there can make a difference in a playoff run. I'd like to see Melo in a 4th quarter in Utah in a Game 7. He would rise to the occasion.

Note: I'd rather Game 7 be in Portland though.

You mean Denver?

I’m honestly curious why all of you think Anthony sat around a year waiting for a team to call. I know it’s popular to bash posts and make fun of people on this board, but I know some of you like to have serious discussions about things like this.

It's all good.

Not bashing, there are multiple other threads discussing this.

Try this one if you want to know how everyone feels:

Did you really think no one was talking about it?

I'm optimistic from playing with him on 2k20. I wasn't even trying to use him heavily, but my opponent kept a heavy guard on Dame, CJ, and Ant. It led to Melo getting relatively easy opportunities. That's always been the problem for the Blazers in real life. Once teams zero in on our ball-handlers, Aminu and Harkless could not be depended upon to hit an open three or take advantage of mismatches. If Melo is content to be a safety valve, he could prove to be a significant value. The problems will come if he wastes multiple possessions going ISO. If worse comes to worse, we can cut him and be in no worse shape than before.

I think it never worked out for OKC and Houston because they thought he could still be that third star. We don't need to have those expectations on him. Just need a reliable space floorer that keeps pressure off Dame and CJ.

At the very least, I'm excited to watch the experiment.
