There is no reason for it, we're not that close to winning a title. Out of Meyers, Crabbe and Harkless I see keeping 2 at most. If I had to guess I would say Crabbe and Meyers are gone.

I think we are past that option. They are already balls deep into spending money when evan turner is making almost 20% of your cap. Might as well make it rain SPAM style now.

That's what I'm saying, there is no reason to SPAM. PA ripped up the magic checkbook when Whitsett left.

How bad would it be to let Crabbe go and keep Henderson?

I would like to keep harkless and crabbe and let go of Meyers but if I had to choose between the two, harkless all the way. Depends on the offers though. I see crabbe getting some crazy ass offers.

Why would PA want to spend money on a team that fans are already bailing on after ONE -- let me repeat -- ONE DAMN MOVE -- Well maybe not the team but if someone said lets make Olshey walk naked out of town throwing shit at him ala game of thrones i think 80% of this board would show up with stuff to throw at him. I do not understand why you cannot give the man some slack and see how things play out instead its fans acting like whiny BITCHES.

People aren't giving up on the team. Some might be a little disappointed but they're still Blazer fans.

And if part of your rant is directed at me I am not giving up. I like and respect Olshey.

If I didn't like and respect Neil, I wouldn't be as mad. I know he is a smart savy sob, and we missed out on all the big names, and the kinda big names. We spent a little too much on Turner, and now we are trying to lure Pau Gasol at the stake of losing our restricteds or having to trade away a contract. Henderson is gone. Meyers, Hark, and Crabbe are going to command far too much to retain them all, hopefully we'll keep at least 2 of them. If we do lose those guys or somehow get Gasol, we are gonna have to let guys walk/make trades to get rid of contracts, not to mention our bench will be a Skelton crew....having connaughton, Montero, and Layman as part of our second string is not my idea of a successful summer.

I think just the opposite. If we can't get the talent we want this summer, it becomes paramount not to lose the talent we do have. Pay those guys market rate, continue to develop them, and, in the future, look for trades that improve the team.

Idk though. From what i hear crabbe is pretty maxed out at what he can do at 24.
Butthurt much?

Crabbe will be a servicable player, but not complete. There's a reason he lasted until the beginning of the 2nd round.

Not at all actually.

Just because someone was drafted in the 2nd round doesnt mean anything.

I for one couldn't care less about the money involved. There is a lot being thrown around everywhere and doesn't affect me at all. Having more of it just gives people more excuses to complain how much is being spent. Since FA is not a reliable building tactic for Portland and never has been regardless of GM, it is not in our interest to let players walk nor to plan for free agency. I'm pretty sure Neil understands that now.

I like and respect Olshey.

I like and respect Olshey as well. It is probably only a bit natural with all of the cap space we have had the last two seasons to only come away with guys who were bench players somewhere else.

We'll see how it all shakes out.

It's amazing the spectrum swing we've seen year to year. We get from the smallest payroll in the league to talking about the max cap and max luxury cap possibilities. Portland is where mediocre players go to cash in IMO. That's a testament to Stotts and NO.

I don't see the Blazers ever winning a championship EVER. As long as we don't mind not winning the last game of the season..... like FOREVER, then we're made in the shade. Great owner. Great GM. Decent players. There is nothing wrong with working your way to the middle and staying there.

I'm not a fan of losing any of our RFA. I like the idea of trading them down the line and as for going into the Tax, if we do it for one year and NO spins a narrative that yes we will pay a little more now but in return in a year or two all the contracts of Leonard/Harkless/Crabbe will look like a bargain when the cap jumps up another 10-15m and they wiill be the key to trying to get a legit 3rd star to portland.

my last post might have gone over the line alittle but OMG -- go back and read the BS over ONE friggin signing and the offseason is not even over yet. I thought Blazers fans for the most part had good heads on there shoulders but i might be wrong if last 48 hours is what happens when he tries to make the team better.

Some people thought we were getting Durant and Whiteside. You can't blame them for being a little disappointed. I'm not because I know Lebron is going to sign here.

There's a few different levels of interesting going on here.

1) I understand wanting flexibility for attaining future assets Varejao/Miller-style (it's kind of my schtick).
2) I understand not letting assets go away for nothing in return (again, something I'm known for advocating)
3) I tend to look for the things in young players that are projectible with patience, and generally have higher tolerance for keeping a young player around to get him coached up.
4) I have no idea what some of you are thinking when you say that you don't want a Hall of Fame, championship-winning center with some serious gas left in the tank (all-star last 2 yrs, 2nd-team all-NBA in 2015,5th in blocks last year, 6th in rebounding) and whose only history of injuries was plantar fasciitis a few years back, because, in large part, it will stunt the minutes of someone like Mason Plumlee and require the team to renounce a guy that many of you didn't want to offer a 4th year option to, and a guy we literally picked up for free last year and who played 18mpg on a less-stacked roster than the one we're about to go forward with.

I'll put it this way: EVEN IF you think Gasol's not worth 4 years...EVEN IF you don't think he's worth 20M/yr...how many All-Stars/All-NBA players of ANY age do you think are even open to coming here as FAs?

Jermaine.

O'Neal.

Paul won't want to let his young guys leave because he's still terrified of another Jermaine happening.

Agree. Gasol, like Turner, would give Stotts so much more flexibility with his lineup on both sides of the court.
