" I don't care what Denny says, it's nice to have you posting in the OT section. "

You implied I don't think it's nice to have him (or her) posting in the OT section.

It's a backhanded "compliment."

Well good, it's nice to see you admit it wasn't an insult.

Interesting to note the Sutter from Sutter's Mill from the California Gold Rush was in Hawaii and forced 10 Hawaiians to take him to California where he then enslaved people in my tribe during the Gold Rush. Those Hawaiians married into my tribe and a bunch of modern day people in the tribe have Hawaiian ancestry (I don't seem to, unfortunately).

I was going to ask how your surfing skills are, but I guess you answered already.

I think it was down in Samoa, I saw a guy that looked like this fellow, carrying a big bolo knife. He was running through the jungle in hot pursuit of a sailor. I am pretty sure the sailor crossed some taboo or another.

If that was today that sailor would just run into him.

all families in Hawaii are big and everyone is a cousin seems. we are "hanai" or adopted Hawaiian. my best friend and the very best fisherman I have ever met adopted my family several years ago and now we are uncle and auntie to dozens of kama'aina kine kids as well as our kids and grandkids having such an extended family that they need show respect to everyone lest word gets back.(dirty lickin's otherwise) blessed,my life is and far richer for Hawaii.

Ah, that is a grand thing!
Did you say you live on the big Island?
yes we were working and living on a ranch in the south kona district until january when we bought a place in kona. I was working in town as a mechanic/technician on the atlantis submarine and tow boat, and my wife was hired at the USPS and the drive was getting to be too much.

I love snorkeling at Captain Cook's Cove ...used to stay at the Dragonfly Inn and snorkel there for a few days at a time....great place to snorkel

one of my wonder places that. when the Kamehameha butterflies are everywhere when kiawe blossoms. Bishop estates land but one of my old friends leases the fair /rodeo grounds and we often took guests for riding lessons before going down to ho'okena beach and kings trail to city of refuge

If memory serves me the first two American rodeo champs were Hawaiian cowboys from the Parker Ranch..the 3rd was a Native American from the NW...read a documentary about it many years ago.

down south side kau wally Andrade runs 2000+ cows and 2 of his grand kids are on the professional circuit. we go over to Honaka'a for the highschool rodeo in may during their frontier days celebratory weekend. my very favorite event is when they get the real little guys up on the sheep and turn'em loose. the riders of the wool event.

not for the same reasons as Oregon sheep. the women here can't hide under layers of sweatpants.

I leave for Kona 3 months from tomorrow. This thread served as my reminder and has brightened my day.
are you coming for thanks giving? my daughter heather who worked with the blazer dancers for last years calendar shoot is coming then with my soninlaw and 2 of my grandbabies. one i've never met yet and my first granddaughter. I'm very excited.

I hope it is for pleasure

Yeah. Family vacation. I'm usually stuck working through vacations and adding them onto work trips. The wife, two daughters, and I are going to Kona for a break. My goal is to set the laptop down and only answer critical emails (and forward most on to employees to deal with). I love me some Kona. Been almost two years since my last visit, which is too long.

Just realized we leave the 24th (day after Turkey Day). Mahalo!
