That's Phil the GM. He wasn't coaching in NY. Some coaches can't manage a team.

Meh. Didn't Isaiah coach/GM/Meddle? I'm sure Phil had a bit of pull when it came to coaching too.

Bottom line for me is that he's never NOT coached hall of famers.

Actually, Rodman is a great example. Pop couldn't get shit out of Rodman. Phil had him playing some of his best basketball of his career, which helped get them three more titles. That, to me, illustrates the difference between Pop and Phil. The Spurs won 5 titles because they put people around Tim Duncan, and they had sustained success. Phil was able to take players and get the best out of them.

This thread on Reddit has the text from Rodman's book which mentions Pop and the Spurs. Frankly, I don't think the Spurs win a single championship if they don't luck into Duncan.

Phil's an ego stroker until it's time to write a book. Pop takes no shit and HAMMERS HOFers like Time Duncan and Tony Parker.

They're cut from a different cloth.

Hall of Famer isn't really much of a defining characteristic. What championship team doesn't have hall of famers on it?

The Warriors will have at least two HOFers (Durant/Curry).

Cavs have LeBron.

Spurs had Duncan.

Heat had Wade and LeBron.

I think most title teams (except for the Pistons which everyone must point out) has a superstar talent, and yet how many HOFers don't have rings? Ewing. Barkley. Malone. Stockton. Reggie Miller. I think if Phil had only won with Jordan/Pippen, I'd be more inclined to give the matchup to Pop, but Phil took a bickering Laker team and won three in a row. Then he took a team with Kobe/Pau and won two in a row. To me, that's much more impressive than winning five with Duncan over a span of 19 seasons.

I have decided to delete this thread. Okay EVERYBODY OUT OF HERE! GO! SKEDADDLE! SCRAM! BEAT IT!

The diversion worked. They're chattering about something else.

Now that they're gone...what will I do with all these worthless $39 t-shirts. I can buy an undershirt for a dollar; why would I want these.

By my count, Phil has about 6 more championships than Pop, and he did it with 2 different iterations of the Bulls and 2 different iterations of the Lakers. Phil was able to get Dennis Rodman to produce for three years. Pop hasn't been able to get shit out of LMA.
Have you not seen what LA has done this season?

The past two seasons, Popovich had the Spurs playing at all-time great levels despite either a broken-down Duncan (2015-16) or no Duncan (2016-17). Even in the Spurs' final title, Duncan was well off his prime and not at a dominating Hall of Fame level. I think Pop has done plenty to illustrate that he's a fantastic coach. He and RC Buford have also done a tremendous job of keeping talent flowing into the team over the years. Duncan alone would never have produced 5 titles--it took the coaching (Popovich) and the talent evaluation (partially Popovich).

22 and 8 while being the featured scorer on their team? That's not even matching his numbers in his final season in Portland. Not even close. Kawhi is injured, so their next highest scorer is Rudy Gay averaging a whopping 11.5 points per game. That's super impressive.

22 and 8 compared to 23 and 10 is pretty damn close.

He's back to being the focus of the offense, which is why he's happy. He's taking double the field goal attempts of anyone else on the roster, but are they a legit threat to the Warriors? No. Are they a threat to Houston? I doubt it. Frankly, I'd take the TWolves over a Spurs team with LMA as their best player.

Of course, he's a #2 at best. Still don't see how Pop has gotten nothing out of him.

The Blazers were blocking people on twitter who were complaining about a tshirt being $39.

I want one so badly that I would sacrifice. I would take the shirt off my back to wear one.

Aldridge and James are the only players to average at least 12 points per game in each of the past 11 seasons? Well, I guess if you pick the end points carefully enough, you can create some small clubs. Aldridge has managed to avoid missing huge amounts of time, I guess, so that's good.
