I still want the Blazers to bring Mo back (1 Viewer)

If all Mo is being offered id the min or BAE, I would like to see the Blazers offer Mo the 3 million if . . . if he can buy into being a 3rd string PG, a locker room guy and any role that might help the Blazers get further into the playoffs.

I don't think Mo would be interested. I think he wants to be a key role on a playoff team . . . I could see him going to Houston . . . which would suck, IMO.

If the Blazers brought Mo Williams back, he should be viewed like Travis Outlaw was for this team: instant offense off the bench, with the downside that all non-elite scorers bring: the possibility of being in a funk but continuing to shoot.

I think having a guy with a scorer's mentality off the bench is a useful thing. Blake will bring a station-to-station competence, but he won't shake things up on nights where the team is struggling to score. Williams also has pretty solid ability to make plays for teammates too. It's a lot of guards, but I like having the option to bring Blake off the bench to quietly play off Lillard and Aldridge or bring in Williams to try and make things happen on slow nights.

I think if we did that I would prefer to sign a young PG who can sit behind Blake and learn for a season. (Unless there is an injury) Someone who impresses in summer league and gets an invite to the fall camp.

I still don't think Mo is a good option for next year's team if they want to grow. Maybe he mentors the guys off the court, but on the court I did not see much leadership in terms of running the team. Some PG are considered the quarterback of their offense. Mo was the Qb, RB, and WR. But in all fairness that is what we needed last year.....

This year we need to get other players more involved. Can Mo play more like he did in Utah and Cleveland? If he can then maybe he would be a good asset. He would have to come in with the right mind set. Both he and Blake need to work together and understand that guys like CJ and Will need the ball too in order to develop and be ready for the playoffs.

I really think we need a small forward. I think we either need to commit to Will or CJ. They're both shooting guards. I don't see how we're going to find minutes for both of them. Right now our bench is pretty heavy on guards.

Blake/??
Will/CJ/Crabbe
Wright/??
Robinson/Claver
Kaman/Freeland/Leonard

I'd like to try to do a consolidation trade for a small forward. Someone athletic who can fill it up. Bringing back Mo would just make things worse because he isn't going to want to be a third point guard, he's used to playing 25 minutes per game.

That's surprising. Were they really penny pinching?

That's only like 700k more than the BAE. Seems kind of insulting to Mo. I'm not the biggest fan of Mo, but it seemed like the other players really seemed to like him. He's good for the locker room.

That doesn't make a whole lot of sense, does it . . . especially with PA as the owner and the Blazers saving the BAE. I think it came down to the # of yrs.

I do too. I think Neil wants to keep as much flexibility as he can for next summer. Not sure what his plan is, but it's obvious that he's working towards something.

There's no need to make a trade. Just dump Crabbe and find someone in SL who's able to hit the open 3 at a consistent rate. Surely, they can do that?

I wanted him back mostly for chemistry reasons. Theres no real promising PG out there in FA id want to bring in that would come here for the minimum.

Well he and Blake would have to share the back up duties. I am not sure one is better than the other. They offer different skills sets. So who sits? and when they do will they help or hurt the chemistry? From a depth perspective, I think having both would be great especially if an injury occurred to any of the three PGs.

However I think Blake and CJ would play better together than Mo and CJ. But we do need a 3rd PG.........

The Blazers may not want to be so guard-heavy if they're also sorting through options like Barton, Crabbe and McCollum. That's the only thing I can think of. It's possible they think any or all of those guys can replicate what Williams gave them. Williams had a down year last season, so perhaps the Blazers are pessimistic about him.

It's a 700k difference between Mo and Blake. They must have been REALLY unhappy with Mo's play to be so stingy. (He was garbage for the entirety of the playoffs) Blake was not exactly hot stuff either.

If we are top heavy with SG's , then play Wes more minutes at SF. But if you think we can get an athletic SF who can fill it up then that would be fine with me.

Mo is to good to be a 3rd string PG.

Like you said, I think the Blazers need 3 PGs. Lillard, Blake and Mo being almost combo guards . . . or a young PG with potential who can play in case of injury.

For 3 million a yr, would he accept it. Plus he can play some SG. He has shown he can play with either Wes or Lillard. Not a stretch to think he can play with Blake too. I get the idea of developing CJ, but Blazers are in a win now mode. CJ will have to earn his minutes . . . Blazers have him for another 3-4 yrs

He CAN play SG. He really shouldn't though. I swear that Mo/Lillard backcourt accounted for like a third of our defensive struggles.

There's simply no way to keep Mo happy. It's not possible.

Let's say Dame plays 36 minutes (his average). Wes plays 34 (his average). That leaves a grand total of 26 minutes to share between the two backup spots. Are you going to play Blake and Mo each 13 minutes? I don't think either of them would be happy with that arrangement. Mo played 25 minutes per game last season. Blake was a starter for the Lakers.

On Mo Williams potentially coming to the Mavericks: Nelson: “Yeah we’ve been trying to figure out a way to get Mo in a Maverick uniform for years now. He’s a Dallas guy, from Memphis but live in Dallas with his family, so we’re hopeful that we can work something out but again our hands are tied right now because of the Parsons thing of what we can do financially. All these guys, whether it’s Mo, whether it’s ‘Trix, in all reality they’re going to have to take a payout to come here. It’s just how much of a pay cut are guys willing to look at and we’re understanding and respectful of the market place and there’s other places that may have more playing time and more financial flexibility that we do, but we would love for both of those guys to continue to consider us.” Dallas Morning News

I wonder if Mo would consider returning to Cleveland?

If the basket is empty for him, we would be smart to offer him a one year deal at 3.15MM with a team option for a second year.

Translation: "well mo... We found better players, so sorry that we can't bring you in"

I pray we do not have Mo next year.
