Re: Cap space plan 2015: LeBron James

I don't think he will bolt that soon either. Not since he forced the Love trade. Now I would not put it past Love to bolt........

Re: Cap space plan 2015: LeBron James

He is not going anywhere but he will make sure CLE gets rid of some players and gets some others that he wants.

Re: Cap space plan 2015: LeBron James

I think Cleveland made moves such as acquiring Love with the input of LeBron. I don't think there's anyway he leaves this summer; he'll at least give them another year. But what if Love bolts for the Lakers?

There is a reason players should not be GM's. Coaches too. Stan the GM is really hurting Stan the coach. Doc the GM is screwing Doc the coach with a flawed roster that has little flexibility going forward. Players need to play; coaches need to coach; GM's need to make changes to the roster. They are all extremely difficult competitive jobs and its arrogant to think one person can succeed at two of them.

Re: Cap space plan 2015: LeBron James

I don't think I'd even want LeBron here. He's always been one of my favorite players since he entered the league and he has an unselfish game. But if we won a title it would be all about what LeBron did. Our team is loaded right now and we are a contender. All our players are in their prime or improving except Steve Blake. Maybe its a long shot we win but I'd rather try and fail at something difficult than succeed at something easy. Adding LeBron wouldn't be a satisfying path for this franchise in my opinion.

This is my main drawback with LBJ but on the flip side winning a ring might trump that concern for me in the long run

The Heat put the big 3 together and it was still extremely difficult for them to win the title. They are lucky to win more than 1 as the Spurs choked 2013 away. Even in 2012 the Celtics had a 3-2 lead over Miami with game 6 in Boston and the Heat had to rally to win that series.

It wouldn't be easy. It's never easy.

I feel the same.

Re: Cap space plan 2015: LeBron James

I could care less if this is what "LBJ did". If bringing LBJ equals 2-3 titles, I do it any day, tree times on Tuesday!

The Heat had glaring weaknesses, especially at center. Dame, LBJ and Aldridge would be a much better big 3 than anything the Heat put together.

Re: Cap space plan 2015: LeBron James

Only this fan base would overthink about acquiring LeBron James

Exactly

We're talking about the chance at an unprecedented run in Blazers history. It would be awesome.

You're kind of discounting Wade's greatness

I don't see how acquiring LBJ, if even possible, is even in question? As long as we don't trade Dame, Aldridge and Lopez in process.

LBJ is the superstar version of Batum. Everything we lack, he would fill easily. Post up, getting to the foul line, clutch playmaking, and defense. And you know dame well he would be so invested in Portland too!

Re: Cap space plan 2015: LeBron James

Perhaps but at the same time you may be discounting Dame and LMA with another year of growth and improved game from having LBJ on the court with them. I can see it them being every bit as successful and maybe more clutch

Wade and Bosh were absolutely awesome! The fact that Miami didn't even have a center and made it to the finals for 4 years straight says a lot under those circumstances.

My argument isn't "Our big 3 is better than their big 3", it's that we have a center and perfect SG for LBJ. So it's our "big 5" is better than Miami's "big 3"

With LBJ on board I don't think Wes would be around

Re: Cap space plan 2015: LeBron James

LeBron needs to stay there and make it work. It's an organization that everything they did in the offseason. They did for him. It's not like they aren't trying.

Why? Money? Or he would have to be part of the trade? Because if its money I cant imagine a more likely scenario for PA to open his wallet

Re: Cap space plan 2015: LeBron James

What do you mean? Like we would have to trade Wes to get LBJ? No way Cleveland would do that for 3 reasons...

1.) Matthews is unrestricted, so he would absolutely bolt.

2.) Cleveland would want player(s) that would still be under contract.

3.) Trading Matthews would leave a gaping hole at 2.

If you make a trade, use Batum, CJ, T. Rob and Leonard. That gives Cleveland a poor man's LBJ, with an up and coming SG, a young raw Leonard and T. Rob

With LBJ/Aldridge/Lillard making the MAX, it gets to a point where is it really worth paying Wes that much money for a small role?

Depends on how much luxury tax Allen wants to spend

Re: Cap space plan 2015: LeBron James

Why are you guys talking about trades?

LeBron would be a FA

Re: Cap space plan 2015: LeBron James

Can someone help me understand how we get max cap space without letting at least two of our starters (and probably 3 of our top 6) go? Then it becomes something you have to think about. Maybe you still do it, but you have to thisnk about it.

Oh shit sorry... I was thinking Cleveland would want to trade before he becomes a free agent.

I was thinking differently... I was thinking Cleveland would want to trade LBJ before he became a free agent. With a trade, then we could keep the entire team, excluding who we traded of course, locked up for many years

I thought they pretty much had nothing on the books for next year?

The problem is the cap holds on our existing players. Brian is right... We would need to give up Matthews and Lopez in order to offer a max to LBJ

Re: Cap space plan 2015: LeBron James

The salary cap this season is $63M

The Blazers have $36M on the books for next season

A MAX offer per year is what, like $20M-$25M per year?

The Blazers could make it work before re-signing guys like Adridge etc, unless I'm horribly wrong on how the NBA salary cap and contracts work.

The cap holds on Matthews is 150% of his last contract (13 mil or something), Lopez has a cap hold of 200% because he's below average (10 mil), Aldridge is 150% of his last contract, so what's that like 20 mil?

It doesn't work like that
