I think it's a lie

If Durant is leaving they might just want to play him into the ground before he does...do the Kanter injection fix. I wouldn't be surprised to see KD when the series shifts to Portland

You can't injection fix a partially torn Achilles.

I don't think that's his injury but you might be right....a lot of players are hobbled at this point....if it is a torn Achilles he'd be an idiot to play at all for the rest of the playoffs given his pending free agency

They’re definitley not being honest about his timetable. It’s not a day to day injury. They know how long he’s going to be out. But I don’t blame them for not disclosing it fully either.

At some point every guy that has an Achilles they look back like "who kicked me?".

Durant does that. Plus he's holding beneath his calf. Not his actual calf.

I don't believe them. I think they want us to scheme for Durant being there when he won't be.

I think you could be correct based on his reaction to the injury and when it looked like it actually happened

The main point being a muscle tear would want to seize up, which would keep his foot extended.

If he was for sure out for the series, the casinos would be the first to know. Any betting sharps in here? Have the lines moved?

With the Warriors clout and HIPAA regulations, I don't believe casinos would have a way to know. Anyone releasing the information could face criminal penalties:

Covered entities and specified individuals, as explained below, who "knowingly" obtain or disclose individually identifiable health information, in violation of the Administrative Simplification Regulations, face a fine of up to $50,000, as well as imprisonment up to 1 year.

Offenses committed under false pretenses allow penalties to be increased to a $100,000 fine, with up to 5 years in prison.

Finally, offenses committed with the intent to sell, transfer or use individually identifiable health information for commercial advantage, personal gain or malicious harm permit fines of $250,000 and imprisonment up to 10 years.

Meh. I want to Durant to play.

I don’t need anyone saying, “the Blazers only won it all because Durant was injured.”

I know Nurk is out, but I want to beat them as a whole.

Sure but if you had to make a choice what would you choose? A title with people mentioning the Durant injury, or no title at all? If he is not fully healthy people will still use it as an excuse. If he is fully healthy..........we are not winning IMO. As KD likes to say ...... "Shit happens"

Seems to confirm the "will miss (at least) the first 4 games" theory we heard.

Oh, I get it. Just saying. Not alleging some sort of conspiracy, but it’s their jobs to get all the info they can. All the speculation is professionally crunched by Vegas to determine the most likely injury timeline in order to most efficiently set their betting lines, and away we go. So watching the lines is a potential indicator.

I’m sure many of you know this, but I had to google it to be sure. nba injury reporting rules are:

“NBA teams must report information concerning player injuries, illnesses and rest for all NBA games. By 5 p.m. local time on the day before a game (other than the second day of a back-to-back), teams must designate a participation status and identify a specific injury, illness or potential instance of a healthy player resting for any player whose participation in the game may be affected by such injury, illness or rest. For the second game of a back-to-back, teams must report the above information by 1 p.m. local time on the day of the game.

The Reports will be posted daily at 1:30 p.m. ET, 5:30 p.m. ET and 8:30 p.m. ET.”

So I wouldn’t expect official updates going forward until the last second the day before each game.

Don't think they'd lie about that... but I do think Durant will not play in our series and probably not even in the finals if they make it.

It’s a calf strain for sure, the severity is the only question.

This is my thinking. I see teams hedging on the severity/time-table but not on which part of the body was actually injured.

And all they said initially was that he'll be reevaluated in a week, not that he'd be coming back in a week. It's often hard to guess how long someone will be out immediately after injury, bodies react and heal differently.

Do you honestly believe Stotts will change his scheme/rotation based on whether or not Durant is hurt?

My response wasn't based on just your one post. The constant dogging on Stotts or the players has become very tiresome from some of you posters.

They are allowed to lie about anything pretty much except injuries. Casinos ain’t having it. It’s a calf strain for sure, the severity is the only question. Likely a “it could miraculously get better” type thing, but aren’t they saying the same thing about boogie? From the injuries they have, anyone have any insight on recovery time? Like @yuyuza1 said, we can relate this to aminu, and guess a month or so. What about boogies?

If he was for sure out for the series, the casinos would be the first to know. Any betting sharps in here? Have the lines moved?

I just feel we should be able to come to a reasonable assumption on time frame given the info we have, and not have to wildly speculate. A thread hashing this out in the OP would be appreciated.

Well go ahead and mark my words. I'll eat crow if I'm wrong, but if I'm right, the whole "Casinos ain't having it" is some made up ish.

Here's your answer to the red bolded:

What are the different types of quadriceps tendon ruptures and how are they treated?
Quadriceps tendon ruptures come in two main types: partial and complete tears. Distinguishing between the two is very important, as the treatment is vastly different.

Partial tears can sometimes be treated non-operatively. In order for a partial tear to be treated without surgery, the patient must be able to do a straight-leg raise and have good strength with this physical exam finding. If this is the case, treatment should commence immediately with immobilization of the leg in full extension (out straight) for a short period of time. Then range of motion exercises are started at between 3-6 weeks from the injury. After six weeks, quadriceps strengthening is begun. Typically, after 10-12 weeks the injury has healed. The patient may resume normal activities after they have full range of motion and quadriceps strength. This can be anywhere from 3-6 months after the injury. Return to sport is governed by the ability to pass functional tests specific to the sport (example: jumping for a basketball player).

Stotts is one of only 4 coaches left in the playoffs. He must be doing something right. Why all the negativity before the WCF?

I don't understand this attitude.

If you want to be a homer and only see sunshine and rainbows, that's your prerogative, but don't criticize people who try to look at things objectively and can see the good and the bad.

I think of it differently and frankly there's already a thread for Stotts.

But we've gotten this far WITHOUT Nurk, and with a 1 armed Center.

Stotts deserves props for that.

You saying it over and over doesn't make it true. I said I think they're lying...
You might be right, I dont really agree with you as I don't think it was his achilles or if it was I don't think it popped. However, like I said you may be right. We will find out.

If gamblers can pay enough to get people to fix games or shave points, I'm sure they can pay enough to get info illegally.

Stotts almost lost us game 7 by starting Aminu and Harkless. Denver got out to a big lead and if they hadn't completely tanked it would have been nearly impossible to come back on the road in the hardest place to play in the league. That was an incredibly stupid decision on his part. He should have started Collins and Hood. Or at the very least Collins. Aminu played 7 minutes and those 7 minute almost cost us the game.

Do you honestly believe coaches don't game plan around Kevin Durant? I guess they don't game plan for Damian either. Stotts may use the same starting five whether Durant plays or not but that doesn't mean there's no change to how they approach the game. Give me a break.

So if you got a 90% on a math test, and you got every single question wrong on one part of the test, would you not talk about that one section or would you just be like, "fuck it! I got a 90%!"

Also, I find people who only see the positive and are unable to consider constructive criticism to be extremely small minded and unable to perform critical thinking. They don't see the big picture. I guess ignorance is bliss.

Serious question: what do you think Stotts will do differently if he thinks KD is out?

Personally, I think he's going to stick with his same starting lineup because he's hoping beyond hope that Aminu will find his shot.

How the hell should I know? I'm really not going out on a limb here. When an MVP caliber player isn't in the game, that changes the way 30 NBA coaches are going to scout and game plan for a game. That's just common sense, or I thought it was.
