The only explanation that makes any sense to me for why this team doesn’t seem to care at all about tanking this season is that they’re planning on packaging this pick with other assets and trying to add another major piece.

Either with Simons or maybe even Scoot.

This all depends on where it lands. Obviously if we get into the top 4 we probably won’t move it.

I think they like our young core and the pick is gonna be most like a role player at best. Better to move it with some other assets to try to get another starter.

10th pick + Simons for who?

I agree, but there is one other option. They looked at who is available from about 4-15, or 7-10, or whatever......and don't think there is much of a difference between them. They are all projects?

It has crossed my mind many times. What team needs a lotto pick but is willing to part with younger talent?

DAL, PHX, MIL need a pick but no clue what JoeBert would want from them.

if the target is Avdija level or higher (needs to be higher)

* Phoenix has nobody besides Booker and the price for him will be really high. I don't think Cronin has the stones to enter that auction

* Dallas has nobody that fits the profile

* Milwaukee has nobody

I'd hope Cronin has been in Portland long enough to know how fucking pointless it is to trade draft assets for players the level of Afflalo, RoCo, and Nance. Swing big or stay in the dugout

It’s rumored that the Hawks want to move Trae and they could use the pick. So could the Pelicans.

I agree that they’re not looking to get younger now. Trading the pick would make sense. Hopefully they have another Deni type move in their pocket

How much value would Scoot, the 2025 pick, the Milwaukee swaps and the best of the 2029 picks?

tanking would have given us a better chance at the top 4 so there is no explanation for not tanking

Isn’t there still a coin flip between us and Phoenix for the 9 spot?

why do you think Scoot is on his way out?
It just seemed like no matter how well he played he never had his role increased.

Despite playing better and showing significant growth, he averaged fewer minutes this season than last season.

His last game was on 3/27 which was 18 days ago. That must have been some concussion.

The whole season has been head scratching.

I think we average the combo of the 9 and 10

That's for lottery odds. A team with 9th seed has a 20.2% chance at top-4. Two teams tied at 9th and 10th will leave each with a 17% chance at top-4

if neither team jumps into the top-4, then there is a drawing/coin-flip for who picks 9th and wuo picks 10th

Grant's exit interview sounded like he's out the door to me. I'd say he was part of whatever trade deadline deal Joe put off until the offseason. I think he's known he's gone all year. He didn't sound happy about Portland making him a 3 pt shooter and taking away his midrange instincts.

Ah I see. Thanks

I hope you are right. So, what scenario can happen this summer that couldn't have happened at the deadline?

how much leverage does Portland have with the worst of their two 2029 picks?

would it be enough to trade Grant + 2029 first (lottery protected) for an expiring contract? And would that be worth it for Portland?

The biggest blunder Cronin has made so far was not trading Grant last summer (if there was an actual offer on the table.)

Agreed.
Grant SHOULD be a 3 & D... but thats not how he wants to play
