I want to apologize to Isiah Thomas. I have labeled him all sorts of names (idiotic, stubborn, ignorant..........ect.), but recently he has shown me that he knows exactly what he's doing. By signing Richardson he got a three point shooter, by snatching Nate Robinson he got a PG that will distribute the ball to all his scorers, and signing Jerome James he finally got a bigman that will PLAY BIG. So I am officially a Knicks fan (but Houston's my 1st team) and can't wait to see my man Marbury lead the Knicks to the playoffs. By the way, if you do happen to get Larry Brown, Isiah will be hands down the GM of the year next year. You're thoughts

I agree, man. Isiah has gotten a lot from the media, members here etc. however, if we look back at some of his moves, they cerainly weren't as bad as many portrayed them as. We'll have to wait and see how they turn out, but they seem decent so far.

I agree with you. A lot of people over look what Isiah did in the 1997 NBA Draft with the Toronto Raptors, he picked a raw high schooler out of Mount Zion Academy, named Tracy McGrady. I see what the Knicks are trying to do here for the first time in a long time, the only thing they lack is a coach. This off-season has been great for the Knicks (thanks to Issiah) by landing Quentin Richardson and Nate Robinson for Kurt Thomas as the headline deal.

i agree, although i dont think isiah is the best gm in the nba, i do agree that he did a good job this off season. my only problem is the huge contract he gave jerome james.

I kinda agree. But to win in this league, you have to have size. Every successful team in this league has size. Even without a true PG, you can still be a good team, but you need size. Finally Isiah realizes this.

but he couldve gone after younger guys like swift and curry, i know you guy have cap issues, but didnt you guys sign james money that's close to the max? if you just add a bit more money, you guys could have gotton swift or curry.

We are talking about the same guy who, before the playoffs, had a season high of seven rebounds, aren't we? The same guy who I can count how many times he's managed to pull down double figure rebounds in his career on one hand?

Size is the sole reason he's stayed in the league, and the contract he's been 'rewarded' with is laughable.

Nate is great, but not a pure point guard and wasted behind Marbury and Crawford, while Q doesn't add much that JC doesn't give, except an extra year on Kurt's contract.

If Isiah is GM of the year, then 29 men aren't doing their job.

I disagree. The Knicks are headed to yet again another disastrous season. I said it last year, that this team had too much talent and no complementary players and the season they had proved me right. And by the looks of things so far, it doesn't seem as if Thomas learned his lesson. How do you expect Tim Thomas, Quentin Richardson, Jamal Crawford and Stephon Marbury not to cry about shots, minutes and touches? Then when you top that off with Herb Williams as the coach, and you have Rose, Taylor, Sweetney and Williams all occupying the PF position how can you expect them to be happy and get consistent minutes to be on top of their game before demanding a trade?

But then again, before I get too ouf of hand, the offseason just started and who knows if half of these players will be in a Knicks uni next season, so I guess I can cut them some slack because Thomas must have some thing up his sleeve. So in contrary what I'm seeing so far it seems like the Knicks are working towards a repeat off last season. With the current roster, the only hope is Larry Brown, if not, the Knicks may be back in the lottery.

Well in all fairness, he does play next to Reggie Evans who snatches down every board.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Size is the sole reason he's stayed in the league, and the contract he's been 'rewarded' with is laughable.</div>
If he can step up and reach his full potential, it won't be laughable ? it might be underpaying him.

Why can?t he play back up PG? Q adds a post up game, rebounding, and a better overall shooter.

First post in this thread.

The same guy who killed Brad Miller in the playoffs. True James is very inconsistent, but he's in West where every night he's playing against Duncan, Garnett, Gasol, or Ming. Now he's in the East where there are only a few true centers, he basically has a size advantage every night he steps on the floor. I don't expect him to score 20 pts a game, but he'll be that physical prescence that New York hasn't had since Ewing left. He's 7'1 and pretty mobile for somebody his size. Though he's no Ben Wallace on the boards, he'll do fine playing against people smaller than him.

I totally agree, I doubt the roster will be the same, i gaurentee that PF's will be traded. Nate is a great backup, scoring 20-25 points in the minny league, he's impressed me. Getting Q-Rich, very nice, now we could trade tim for a decent player as himself. Dont mark tim as a crappy player, you have to cut him some slack, he had family trouble, family members passing away, I want to see someone try to do anything, especially play ball around thousands of people. I really like tim, i liked him on bucks b4 he even came to knicks, lets give him a few weeks and then you can critisize him all you want (sorry for the spellin errors)

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Avery:</div><div class="quote_post">I disagree. The Knicks are headed to yet again another disastrous season. I said it last year, that this team had too much talent and no complementary players and the season they had proved me right.</div>
As I said before, a healthy Knicks roster could have gone to the playoffs. Houston and Penny were gone, Crawford missed three straight weeks when we needed his help, Tim Thomas missed some games with some injuries. Nazr had this groin injury and was playing terrible towards the end of his tenure with the Knicks. What really hurt the Knicks was on the mental side of things. 30 of their games (almost 40% of the season) was decided by a score of 6 points or less and their inability to close out games, was a major reason to their downfall. Not having their #1 clutch shooter, Allan Houston, really hurt them more than they thought.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">And by the looks of things so far, it doesn't seem as if Thomas learned his lesson. How do you expect Tim Thomas, Quentin Richardson, Jamal Crawford and Stephon Marbury not to cry about shots, minutes and touches?</div>
I don?t see why not. Should we expect Iverson and Webber not to cry about shots? What about Jefferson and Carter? Anyway, Tim Thomas has an expiring contract Isiah is looking to get rid of and judging from history, I think we can land a pretty good player. Marbury will look to pass more having very good shooters around him, and it will make the Knicks all the more dangerous.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Then when you top that off with Herb Williams as the coach, and you have Rose, Taylor, Sweetney and Williams all occupying the PF position how can you expect them to be happy and get consistent minutes to be on top of their game before demanding a trade?</div>
Hopefully we can get Brown (that would give us one less reason to fire Isiah), but even so, the power forwards aren?t as bad as made out to be. One thing I like about them is their versatitlity. JYD can play the 3 and the 4 as can Rose and Lee. Sweetney can play center at times in the game. Taylor is the only real non-versatile power forward on the team, but I like the scoring punch he brings off the bench. In addition, he is an absolute threat on the block and when you take into consideration they have some perimeter shooters and a great penetrating guard, he will come in handy.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">But then again, before I get too ouf of hand, the offseason just started and who knows if half of these players will be in a Knicks uni next season, so I guess I can cut them some slack because Thomas must have some thing up his sleeve. I don?t know about that. The Knicks are much better than they were last season and unless they have some major injuries, I see them making the playoffs this season. They seem decent in the front court and in the back court they are solid. Isiah probably does have some tricks up his sleeves with those expiring contracts of Penny and Thomas so don?t be surprise if Isiah strikes again and even if he doesn?t, I feel that you?re predictions of the Knicks next season will take place regardless of any transactions they make or don?t make.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Sir Desmond:</div><div class="quote_post">First post in this thread.</div>
I stand corrected.

We gotta wait till the season starts, too early to say anything now.

And unlike the Suns last year, those four guys above don't share the ball well so there's obviously going to be some chemistry issues. What the Hell??? What is the thread starter apologizing for??? Isiah Thomas GM of the year??? What's going on here?? The optimism by the Knick fans in this thread is sickening. The Knicks are no better now than when Isiah Thomas took over. The Knicks were in a better position under Layden than they are now. The payroll is through the roof and we have nothing to show for it. Isiah Thomas, to quote a Knicks fan, is "taking the Knicks into a black hole".

We have a whole bunch of shooters-and none of them are true shooting specialists- most of the team wouldnt play defense to save their lives and he's added contracts that cant be moved. For all of Isiah's wheeling and dealing he's succeeded only in putting together an expensive mess. This team is a paper tiger. On paper we look good but on the court we suck. Forget about GM of the Year, Isiah Thomas is giving Rob Babcock a run for his money for Worst GM of the Year. After analyzing all of Isiah's previous moves I have a good idea of what he plans on doing during the summer and I've come to the conclusion that the only way the Knicks are going to do anything worth mentioning is if Sweetney develops faster than I thought possible and becomes a premier power forward. In which case we would be thanking Layden and not Isiah.

Anyway I think Isiah Thomas should be fired.

"Isiah Thomas is giving Rob Babcock a run for his money for Worst GM of the Year"

This attitude towards Babcock is a result of reading one to many know it all analysts who used Babcock as a tool to get out thier punch lines. Babcock's draft pick didnt work out, but might still since its only been 1 year. Worst things have happened and been done by other GM's...he's not the first GM to draft a player in the lottery that didnt produce. It might still happen but we'll see.

Then people rag on him for the vince deal saying it was horrible and rambling on and on and on about it. I think the deal was pretty good actually. What more could we of gotten for a sulking whining crybaby who obviously wasnt trying and was constantly repeating to anyone that would listen that he wanted out of Toronto despite being the franchise, despite the team wanting him, despite the fans wanting him, and despite his 14 million dollar annual paycheck. Graham + a 1st year next year is definately nice....hell if Vince was still with the Raps and Graham with the Nets i'd do that deal straight up for salary cap reasons and especially to get rid of his dead weight and attitude.

Babcock had one of the best drafts this year if not the best and he's put together a very very solid young core. The team still need work but overall its way better off that it was looking then when he took it over.

That's not a bad starting line up. You might have a few bad shots, but they'll be flying up and down the court so fast you'll barely notice. Not to mention that you have Nate, Trevor,Frye, Mo Taylor coming off the bench. Put it together, the Knicks have the talent to compete in the East. They can easily win they're division. Gone are the days where a 6'7 Kurt Thomas was playing Center, now you have a legit bigman and some serious young talent to look foward to down the line. The future looks good.

Marbury doesn't really demand the ball unless no one else is doing anything with it - that's when he takes the game into his own hands. Also now with Richardson, Marbury will look to pass much more having the presence of yet another good shooter. Last time when Marbury had good shooters around him, he averaged 9.3 assists which was good enough to be the leader in APG. Last year, not Marbury, Thomas, nor Crawford had chemistry issues. Being absent due to injuries did effect their game play a bit, however, it was not major; and now that they have a season under their belt, they will be better. These acquisitions make the Knicks perhaps the deepest team on the perimeter this season.

You're completely wrong, and obviously didn't watch this team this year.

Our problem last year was no one had confidence in each other, alot of guys didn't want to take control, some guys were scared, and pass the ball to the 4th or 5th option (Penny Hardaway at the Sacramento game for example.

Yeh, we're better, but thats not saying much, we're still not playoff contenders, and anything is an improvement over

Howard Eisley/Frank Williams/Charlie Ward
Allan Houston/Shannon Anderson
Keith Van Horn/Lee Nailon
Clarence Weatherspoon/Othella Harrington
Kurt Thomas/Micheal Doleac

We had the chance to get under the cap, Isiah completely KILLED it, Clerance Weatherspoon has an expiring contract this year...same with Ward and Doleac, Anderson, Nalion, Keith Van Horn, Howard Eisley, Othella Harrington contracts all expired this season, with Houston expiring in a year or two...........lol jesus man, we would have cap room to sign all these top free agents this year, or Lebron and Yao in 2007, suck and rebuild from then to now....and just start a new era.

Isiah is trying to rebuild with the cap on his back, thats why I don't respect Isiah.

Regardless, of what anyone says I just can't see this squad going anywhere with just talent. The the Lakers fantastic four couldn't get it done, the Olympic team couldn't get it done, Dallas can't get it done, but teams like the Spurs, Heat ,Pistons team which have their star(s) but for the most part have players that compliment the stars is what really gets the job done at the end of the day. I don't see why Thomas can't understand that. Truth be told, behind the 76ers I want to see the Knicks do well, I was born and raised in the middle of NYC and for once in my life I want to root for my hometown team but Thomas makes it so hard to do that with these questioable moves, but yet people support him with these moves.

At least the Lakers fantastic four went to the NBA Finals, yhe extremely poorly composed Olympic team didn?t do well but at last got Bronze, the Mavericks had a great team a couple of years ago and if Dirk Nowitzki wasn?t injured, they could have possibly won the series and could have played New Jersey in the finals. My point is while these teams may not have gotten championships, these teams have gotten significantly far in the playoffs and for the Knicks, that would be a huge step. Also, why do you say complimenting each other? I think the Knicks team has perfect compliments with their outside-inside-penetration attack.

Hopefully he?ll make you root for them this season. I have a feeling the Knicks will defy expectations and do pretty well in the East. They?re younger, more talented and better overall. But I won?t be able to persuade you ? after seeing the results of this season, you can make your own opinions.
