This just happened barely an hour ago.

So my stepdaughter called because her husband was away from home asking if we could either watch her cute as heck newborn daughter or go to the store for her and pick up some things. I needed to pick up some synthetic oil for the car so Mrs Poker Dog and I said we would go to the store for her and the closest store to her was the Walmart on 82nd ave. I can't remember the last time I was in a Walmart but the 82nd ave one is always a bit of a trip.

We had just about finished our shopping and were in the soda isle looking for root beer when I guy comes around the corner and right up to me saying that there is a man and woman fighting in the meat department. Now I was wearing a bright blue Adidas sweatshirt so the only thing I can figure is that the guy saw blue and assumed I was a Walmart employee. I leave Mrs Poker Dog and go around the corner to the meat department to see what was going on.

Sure enough this, I would guess mid 50s man and woman are fighting in the store, the man is hitting hard with his fist and she is hitting him back, punch.. punch... yell... yell... she steps away from him and he follows her yelling, she yells back and he punches her. There were about 4 or 5 other couples/groups of people watching this. All of us looking at the couple fighting and each other not sure what to do. What made me not play the hero is the guy punching the woman had his buddy with him. The buddy is 6'5, 200+ lbs long haired biker looking MF'er and he's just standing there letting his friend friend hit the woman while glaring at everyone as we all stand there watching this. This is a bad situation, you try to play hero in a domestic violence situation and it could end up with of three of these losers trying to beat you up.

So anyway I'm scanning all around looking for a Walmart employee, security, anything to save this woman but I decide I ain't getting involved unless it really gets ugly. I can't see anyone from Walmart and the man starts hitting the woman again, so I do the brave thing I push past those large rubber swinging doors that lead back into the inner bowels of the meat department looking for an employee. "Hello? Hello? Is anyone here?" No one is in the meat department but that's when I see a store phone on the wall so I run over to it and push the button marked customer service. Busy. Push it again, busy. I hear more yelling, realize that Mrs Poker Dog is out there so I hang up and head back out to the store.

Now they had pushed, screamed and shoved their way to the bakery department. It's ugly. The woman is trying get out of the store and away from the guy and his biker buddy. I'm still looking for a Walmart employee. I finally see one behind the bakery counter. I go up to here and ask her to call security. She's been watching all of this go down and she points to the biker looking dude and goes, "that is security!"

What the fuck?!?

About this time the woman finally runs out of the store with the man running after her. Biker dude stops following. I think this is all complete BS so I take my phone out of my pocket and hold it up to take a picture just as biker dude turns around and sees me holding my phone up. He yells, "you can't take my picture!' So I drop my arm down and take a lovely picture of the floor. He comes up to me, "why are you taking my picture? " He was hitting her and you didn't do anything!" He glares at me and yells, "you can't take my picture!" as he walks past me to a group of Walmart employees that had gathered down at the middle of the meat department. I'm like fuck this so I raise my hand up and take a picture of the back of him as he stomps his way to the group of Walmart employees. As soon as I do this one of the employees yell "you can't take our picture!" so I take of all of them. The employee yells again, "you can't take our picture!" I turn around and walk with Mrs Poker Dog to finish our shopping.

We reach the produce department when suddenly we are surrounded by 5 Walmart employees. All yelling with the one guy who was yelling gets right up in my face, I mean there wasn't more than a half inch separating us. He's enraged, fists clenched, yelling at me that I can't take their pictures, says I have to give him my phone and leave the store or I will be arrested. Now this guy is early 20s in a Walmart uniform but no name tag and he's still in my face. Finally a manager comes up and she wants to know why I'm taking pictures of employees. As soon as I start to tell her about the fight she recoils back like she was shot and wipes her face like I spit in it. Which I totally didn't. But angry kid steps up like he's going to swing.

My mind is racing but I ain't no dummy, I know what's up, their going to claim I assaulted them and use that as a reason to kick my ass. This is getting strange really fast. Mrs Poker Dog is standing there next to me and immediately said, "he didn't spit on you!" That's when I noticed a couple behind the manager who was also there when the man and woman were fighting, he speaks up, telling there manager that I didn't spit on her. I mean it was such an obvious fake reaction and everyone spontaneously saw through it. The manager immediately said, " I didn't say he did!"

The manager tells the employee still in my face to leave, he refuses, "he can't take pictures of us." She finally pushes him away and tells him to leave. He steps back but doesn't leave. Manager, "you can take pictures inside of the store." I laugh. "Why are you taking pictures?" "Because your employee was just standing there watching a manbeat the hell out of a woman." "He's undercover, you can't take his picture." "I can take his picture if I want." "You need to delete them, failure to do so will result in charges." Man behind manager, "That was wrong, your employee didn't do anything." Manager to me, "what did you do? You call the police?" Me, "I looked for an employee and when I didn't see one I tried to call customer service."

Suddenly anger Walmart employee charges me, getting back in my face. She pushes him away and tells him to leave.

Then this strange conversation occurs between me and the manager, If I wouldn't do anything why should they, and if I was afraid to call the police why would I take their picture? I calmly explained over and over that I did try to do something, I looked for an employee and when I didn't see one I tried to use a store phone to call security. That's when I caught something out of the corner of my eye, I whip around and enraged Walmart employee is coming up behind me to tackle or grab me. "What the hell?!" I step back, and he is back up in my face screaming at me that I can't take their picture. Manager again as to physically push him away from me.

Manager starts back up again with me being afraid to call the police, the implication is clear, that I have warrants or for some reason I am wanted by the police, lol. She tells me that I have to either give up my phone or delete the pictures from it. I laugh and tell her to call the police. That's when enraged Walmart employee charges into the middle of this again. He's yelling, screaming at me about these damn pictures and this time he looks like he's ready to hit me. Manager is trying to push him back and I look at him like he's nuts, he's yelling at me to follow him out to the parking lot. Me, "What, you want to hit me? You're going to beat me up?" Him, "Let's go! Let's go!" Store manager finally pushes him back.

She tells me that they will file charges if I release the pictures. The rest of the employees surrounding us all mouth off, warning us not to take anymore pictures. Mrs Poker Dog at this point has had enough and tells them them all to back off. Oops that's when I notice that she's been watching this punk continually threaten me and she's had enough of this BS. I grab her,the cart and walk off to a register to checkout and pay.

We wait and that's when I notice that the manager and 3 employees are standing directly behind us in line and talking in hushed tones, she's on her walkie talkie thing, I look around, biker buddy and some other scumbag looking dude is at one exit and finally some clearly marked store security is at the other exit.

I quickly grab my phone and upload the pics to the cloud but start laughing when I look at them. They're all shitty pics, you can't tell who anyone is in them. I lock my phone, hand it to Mrs Poker Dog because I know I ain't getting out of that store. We pay and start to walk to the exit with biker dude and his buddy, I look at him not threatening but determined, I'm just as big as he is (6'4, 250lbs) I ain't done a damn thing wrong, and I ain't afraid of him. Mrs Poker Dog asks the dude at the door if he wants to look at our receipt, hahahahaha!

And finally Walmart decides to not make this ridiculous situation worse and lets us leave with our purchases.

tl/dr: See guy beating woman in Walmart, take picture of "undercover" security get detained and threatened with being beat up and arrested.

Damn, Sly I was there a couple hours ago. I would have had your back man. Those Wal-Mart employees are a bunch of idiots. You can take pictures in that store all you want.

The moral of this story: Never where a blue shirt to Walmart

My first thought was you couldn't find any employees because they were in the security room watching it on camera with popcorn in hand.

Smart not to get involved, definitely could unite them and then it's 3v1 like you said.

Wow and then employees turn on you and they've been watching all along!?! That's fucked up, I guess domestic abuse is white trash entertainment?

Honestly did you ever weigh the value of pissing them off to get your ass kicked and then suing Walmart? I'm not down with all the happy go lucky lawsuits that happen in this country, but I also really don't like Walmart and I'm pretty sure if you got gang beaten by their employees you would have a definite lawsuit on your hands + your medical bills covered. I know that all sounds crazy, but did it ever cross your mind?

Or you could have just done this

I looked on the PPD website and it says since it involves domestic violence I can't file an online report. Mrs Poker Dog says I should wait until morning before I call the non-emergency number and ask if I can file an online report. Calling up the PPD at 11:30pm with this strange story might be a little much. After I file a report I will then call Walmart corporate.

Walmart was so confrontational and trying to provoke or escalate this into a physical confrontation I think that filling a police report, even if they end up determining that no crime was committed, is the correct decision.

Dude why the fuck would you go to walmart? It is the shittiest store in the world. They are all assholes and the weirdest fucking people go there. Spend the little bit more and go to fred meyers or target.

It was convenient on the way to my stepdaughter's house.

Trust me, I won't go back to that Walmart.

When the store assistant manager immediately pretended that I had spit on her I knew instantly not to allow this situation to escalate. I'd bet there are multiple police reports from that store that start off with, "The customer assaulted me by spitting on me. We responded by taking him to the ground and beating the crap out of him." It honestly felt that way. If it weren't for the other couple who immediately spoke up I am positive that I would be currently under arrest and charged with all sorts of crazy crap.

It was such a strange situation. What's odd is that I was taking the picture of the "undercover" security guy to take to the manager to complain about his lack of action. I was on my way to the customer service desk when I was surrounded, threatened and prevented from leaving.

Eastport.
I thought so. That store is terrible. Always has been. Wood village has gone downhill so much i won't even go there anymore either. Happy valley is the only eastside location that seems to have semi-normal people. I dislike walmart, but for shits sake man, that entire strip mall is shit. Weirdos everywhere.

Do exactly that.

You were the one in the situation so you know best, probably a good idea not to escalate it. Good call, definitely should let Walmart know what is happening at that store, I doubt they want a bunch of employees who are a ticking time bomb for a lawsuit, which is what it sounds like if this is indeed a common occurrence.

Report back on what the police and Walmart say if you end up following through on it!

ROFL, look at these google reviews!

This store is a disaster! The eye doctor is stoned out of her mind and it took 5 pairs of contacts to still get the wrong prescription! I have to live with this prescription for a year!!
Oh and they've locked up their bike tires so you have to try to find an employee, but when I asked this lady "Debbie" she shouted at me that she didn't have a key. I complained to the manager up front and he said she's covering toys and is grumpy because she's supposed to be in a different department! I'm done with this place!
Was one of them this "Debbie" lady?

Horrible products. Horrible employees. Horrible.

I was harassed by an employee dressed in regular clothes because of my skin color, he followed me around the store and told me not to touch certain things on black Friday.

Well the general manager that works here is extremely rude to his customers and employees and I can not find a number for a corporate office so here we go.....

Employees at this location are abnormally rude and look as if they were hired right off 82nd. If you go there anytime past about noon.. Expect to be waiting in very long lines. They really need to revamp this location. I drive to the wood village super center as often as possible.

It's really a hit or miss with employees.
I've come across a lot of aggressive customers in this store.

Take 3 of them out and then change your username to Bodyman 5000 and 4

PS- Are you a Powerman 5000 fan or something?
That's where the name came from. Wasn't a huge fan but liked their one hit.

I wanted to hit people at Costco today. My wife reminded me we needed water softener pellets via text. I wandered around and found them all the way in the back. She was by the registers so I grabbed two 40lb bags and started walking to the checkout.

4 different people cut me off or just blocked me from making it through entirely. One woman stopped right in the middle of the aisle to check her shopping list. I felt like adding Aleve to it for her.

Some people are criminally unaware of their surroundings.

This is so wrong, on so many levels, it is keeping me awake just thinking about it.

I will expand on one topic at a time.

? Was there a sign clearly posted stating “No Photography” or a similar condition to enter the store?

If you where taking pictures of products or displays, and they could prove your intentions where to gain a competitive advantage, that might be illegal, but very difficult to prove, and seldom enforced.

However, taking pictures of people in a public place, even on private property, is not illegal unless it is an invasion of privacy such as in a fitting room or bathroom.

Even if posted “No Photography”, taking pictures of people in a store would not be illegal; it would be a breach of a contractual agreement and a condition to entire the store. They could not arrest you, handcuff you, take your equipment or ask you to destroy the pictures. All they could do is ask you to leave, or they are breaking the law.

Here is a link to more info.

It should be noted I am not an attorney, and there maybe local laws that contradict these opinions.

If there is ever a fire there one of those people will be surprised when I try to throw them through the emergency exits marked with a 15 second delay.

Which I can't fathom any reason it should be legal to have by the way. I don't care about theft prevention. If there is a fire or gunshots people will apparently be stuck inside for 15 seconds. ....no biggie right?

I'd ask if they knew about the Nexus 6p's ability to take pictures of a person's colon.

Why my first instinct is to threaten someone with an inanimate object being inserted I'll never know. Actually my exact words are "I'll jam it in straight and pull it out sideways "

I imagine the whole ordeal tramatized Mrs. SPD pretty severly. So bad she has been feeling sick, and couldn't sleep at all tonight, right? I mean, having a gang of employees threaten you numerous times, I bet the Mrs. was fearing for your safety.....

Screw them. Their actions are totally unacceptable, at ANY store. I like MARIS61s idea of the attorney. Start at the top, and go down. Send the CEO a copy of everything. Call that 1 800 free-shit number. Sounds like that manager and undercover need to go. If they aren't stopped by complaints, they'll get someone else...You already know this shit- you just shouldn't feel bad or guilty about doing any of it. Make it worth your time too....

(Next Skybox is on Sly!!!!)

Firstly, let me say that I'm glad that you are okay.

Sounds like there wasn't really anything you could have done unless you wanted to get into a physical confrontation with not only the guy going after his girl but the security guard. I hope your filing charges and make a complaint to the highest person at Walmart you can contact because the whole situation is fucked and how they treated you afterwords is just insane.

This. I will go into more detail below.

Yes, you need to handle this with the police as soon as you can. Be calm, give as much detail as you can, and if you have to, sit down with a pad and paper first and think it over while you write it out. Try not to make up details; that's easy to do when one is emotional, so try and be calm while you're writing it out.

I can personally tell you that you did a couple of things wrong:

1) the next time this happens, you are solely responsible for two things: your safety and the safety of your wife. PERIOD. Your FIRST duty is to get to safety, and that means you should have immediately left the store and made your way to the safety of your car.

2) you should have IMMEDIATELY called 9-1-1. If you absolutely have to, stand at a distance and observe what is going on while relaying the information to dispatch in a calm manner. People are also less-likely to fuck with you if you tell them that you are talking to 9-1-1, because everything is recorded. Portland Police have good response times when it comes to fights. The best thing you can do in that situation, with no training or self-defense tools on your person, is to be the best observer that you can be. The law loves a good, honest, observant bystander.

Also, you should know that the store employees, including security, have NO legal right to detain you AT ALL. It is NOT a crime to take a picture, and they would ALL be looking at a VERY big lawsuit, I'm sure, if they got physical with you. So the next time they yell at you, immediately and calmly leave the store. They CANNOT charge you with ANYTHING. They are civilian employees making hourly wages at a corporation. They have no more legal authority than you do.

Now, that would be different if you actually were observed committing a crime. But that is irrelevant, since you were NOT committing a crime.

So I'm glad you're okay. Do NOT be afraid to defend yourself as necessary next time. And consider carrying either a tazer or a can of pepperspray. If you're going for the pepperspray, take my advice and get a quality brand: Fox Labs 5.3 or Sabre Red.

And this goes without saying....FIND ANOTHER STORE TO SHOP IN. If that means you have to drive to another part of the city, then so be it.

Also, if you write this out, remember the critical things: Who, What, Where, When, Why, How (and not necessarily in that order).

How tall were the people involved? How many people were there? What were they wearing? Did they have freckles? Were they wearing glasses? What color was their hair? How long was their hair? What color were their shoes? Did they have holes in their jeans?

Did they walk with a limp? Were they fat? Skinny? Talk funny? Accents?

What did they smell like? Did they smell of alcohol and/or weed?

Etc etc.
