I'd do it. Butler has had a rough start to his season, but I suspect that won't last forever. I say buy low if you can, worst case scenario is that he can't be any worse than what Martell is providing and next year he'll be an expiring contract.

Then good on Rudy. You've got to give value to get value and frankly I think Bayless can fill whatever backup shooting guard hole Rudy's departure would create (totally different styles of play, but an and-one is just as good as a 3 in my book). Blazers get a former all-star 3 in the prime of his career who has/can play very good perimeter D and who also provides experience and toughness to a team woefully short on the stuff.

I disagree, Rudy is not going to sign an extension here and Butler would be the perfect transition to Nic in two or three years. I've seen people on these and other boards talking about giving up Rudy for Battier (who isn't half the offensive player and two years older), IMO this is the most attainable and realistic upgrade at SF. G-Wall would be way more costly to get, Prince will most likely never be the same player (ruptured disk), while Washington is strapped with high-priced, aging players. Timing would be perfect!

He's primarly an offensive player, isn't that great of a 3 point shooter. Dunno, just never been enamored with him. Prefer Gerald Wallace.

He's always been a good defender until this year where he just looks lazy.

(Look at his steal numbers)
 
I'd do a package trade to also get a backup 4 or something, but Butler straight up for Rudy + Blake/Outlaw/Webster or whatever, I wouldn't do. They would have to sweeten the pot.

I only really know him when he was on the L*kers, and he was kind of a lazy defender there too. A big complaint of many of my friends but he would put some good numbers up scoring-wise. I've heard some complaints about his heart/desire to win too...who knows, maybe just the environment i was in.

Yes, he's mentally unstable in that regard, but playing for a contender would change that. Part of the reason I think he's being lazy is because the Wiz are losing and Arenas is shutting him out.
 
I think that after so long of losing Butler just needs a reboot, so to speak. The Princeton offense isn't a good fit for him. It is a more team focused offense, where he fits better in a system where he is a "featured piece".

Is he going to be a featured piece here next to Roy, LMA, Oden and Miller?
 
Butler would become our second best player the second the deal was completed.

Of course you do that deal.

Oh I wholeheartedly agree and would do this trade in a nano-second. The version I prefer is Rudy + Blake and Outlaw is a great trade for Portland. We consolidate and free up playing time for Bayless to see what we have there.

I'm a little concerned about the drop-off in terms of his intensity on D, but I also tend to think that a change of scenery might be just what he needs to reinvigorate his game. He's enough of a playmaker and "point forward" that I'd probably even consider trading Miller and one other guy for him after the December 15th deadline on trading signed free agents expires.

Brandon gets to keep his security blanket, Caron becomes a guy who can help create a little in the half court when needed, can score at a pretty good rate when he's on and can make this team a little bit tougher.

I think there are some concerns and the move is not without risk, but I think this is the kind of "championship piece" type move that KP kept rattling on and on about over the past couple of years.

The big "If" is whether or not the Wiz are interested in what we're selling.

One thing I would like to bring up about Butler that a lot of folks seem to miss. Butler averages a lot of assists for a SF type. A couple of seasons he has averaged almost 5 assist.

You have heard of the 3 guard offense, but have you heard of the 3 SF offense? Charlotte v. Miami monday night: Jackson 45 mins, Wallace 46 mins, Diaw 44 mins.

Will Brown use these 3 that much together all season?
 
Plus it would be cool to see an ex laker come back and bite them in the you know what!
