I was reading a thread on Reddit about Robin Lopez.

A girl asked him to come to her graduation so Robin's mother sent per a package and a hand-written note.

Also, someone else commented this:

My mother in law had a hip replacement, and I emailed the Blazers to see if Terry Stotts (who underwent a double hip replacement) could send a quick email.
Instead, he called me (EEEK!!) and asked for her number. He then called, got the machine, left a nice message... Then called the next day because he felt and he missed her! They had a really nice conversation.
The whole organization seems 1000x more polite and awesome that we deserve. Mad props to Terry, Robin, and Robin's mother!

This with that comment by Dame earlier in an interview with Casey...

You’re one of the few guys who stays in Portland during the offseason. What do you think about Portland in the summer?

Damian Lillard: Man, I love Portland, especially when the weather changes and it goes from being cloudy and rainy and then the sun comes out. Nice days. They got a lot of restaurants where you can eat outside, there’s people everywhere, the downtown area is always popping off. It’s a fun city, it really is. I enjoy it. And also, a lot of people can go home and enjoy that time there. When I go home … I’m from a different type of city. It’s not always “Let’s have fun.” It’s “Watch your back” and “Watch where you go” and “Make sure you don’t go here at this time” and it’s really like that. For somebody like me, I really appreciate a place like Portland, just being able to be out and about. The worst thing that can happen to me is there is somebody might bump me and be like “Oh, that’s Damian Lillard.” I enjoy myself in Portland.

This team is awesome.

Hear hear! I love our team! I hope people can sit back and enjoy it.

Yeah, but they don't draw big name free agents here!

Would rather have Lillard than lebron. Am content not winning if I get to watch this team every night...that said, I would love Larry to come to pdx next year!

That's pretty cool stuff man. Sure beats when we had players flipping us off and shooting at civilians

Just seems like way more than is necessary. I think most teams would send some typed response thanking the fan for the letter or some such nonsense.

Dame, Stotts and Lopez just get it. They know the fan base truly treats the team like its part of them. Sometimes we can be really annoying like a parent embarrasses their children, but it's all for good intentions.

Didn't Lillard do another thing cool with a fan because he forgot to acknowledge him?

Yeah he sought him out to give him an autograph iirc.

haha "The worst thing that happens is someone will bump into me and say 'oh, that's Damian Lillard!"

What an ego maniac. :MARIS61: hahaha. That's cool.

I'll never forget the time I witnessed Rasheed Wallace make a little 8 year old boy cry the day after Christmas at Toys R Us over by Washington square.

The little boy was a big fan and approached Sheed asking for his autograph. Sheed told the kid to get lost because he was busy shopping.

I was young myself at the time but still remember thinking "wow what a terrible way to be".

Yeah sheed was kinda a douche. Still loved his game!

The picture shows a July 10 date. So a month after the girl graduated and probably 2 months after she wrote him the letter, Robin's mother, his secretary, looked through his unopened mail and caught up his correspondence. The mother's experienced with 2 NBA sons, so she knew 2 tricks to protect their reputations when answering minor girls: Wait till it's too late to attend, and don't have the player write the virus-able letter by saying he's out of town.

But it gives you worshippers something to drool about, so I won't ruin your fun.

Now I notice the new letter says the original letter was from the father, not the girl. So the father used the girl to try for a meeting with Robin. Robin's mother saw through that.

I sure hope nice guys don't really finish last.

And if you can't pay them, they won't. ;)
