People always get so hung up on this. They wanted to believe he was returning and they put more stock in this than they should have. Players and coaches say this kind of stuff all the time.
Look at the actions over the words and look at the circumstances and the motivators. LA has a lot of reasons to stay here. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that there are few motivators that we know about for certain that would make it seem in his interest to leave. But that doesn't mean they don't exist. It can be a desire to return home or maybe he just doesn't like Portland or maybe he wants to be a big fish in an organization that gets more press. Maybe he just got rubbed the wrong way by the Blazers for some reason. I'd love to know why he'd be so set on leaving Portland, if that is indeed the case.
I'm an example of one that's happy. If LA leaves divorce style, he's losing money divorce style as well. He may not factor that in and just want a change but I don't see any advantage in him giving up now after only 9 years and a chance to be the greatest Blazer everI'm not so sure about that. Of the other 50%, I wonder how many stay together for the kids, for financial reasons, or the preference of cold comfort over change vs. how many are really and truly happy.
If Aldridge does leave, it will be for emotional reasons, not practical ones. He gets more money if he stays in Portland, but how much money does one person really need? The lure of being closer to home/family, a better chance at playing for a championship, or simply being in a happier situation may be worth more to him than the extra money.

Aldridge wants to win a championship...the Blazers declared this was Lillard's team....now it will be. Aldridge has little chance of winning a championship here....I hope if he does leave its to go home. If he goes to the Lakers that will be the biggest kick in the balls....I think the trade of Batum is the last straw for him...I am not defending him...he disrespected the fans, the team, and the sport by lying...he should have told us he wanted out....maybe we can sign and trade him...As a Blazer fan I am feeling betrayed right now....he hasn't left yet, but if he does the Blazers need to work quick to create some kind of relevant team for next year...don't know if I can handle another five years of lottery...feels like this is gonna knock the Blazers back to the stone age...is it that bad? Just want a championship....Warriors go there's...come on!

ThisHey Chris, welcome to RipCityTwo!

Agree with the first part but on the second part the improved chances of winning somewhere else (that has money for him) is highly debatable at best.Get over it. This isn't personal. Things change. He said those things right after the team won 54 games and he made it past the first round for the first time in has career. He was giddy from the success of his best season as an NBA player. Then this season, the wheels kind of fell off. After getting drubbed by MEM in the first round, would you want to stay around for more of that?
He hasn't left yet, but if he does and goes somewhere to improve his chances of winning, I can hardly blame him. Most people bitch about athletes being greedy (Show me the MONEY!!!!), and now we're bitching about an athlete potentially taking less money to have a better chance to win.

Exactly. It's a slap in the face.Agree with the first part but on the second part the improved chances of winning somewhere else (that has money for him) is highly debatable at best.

It's not the leaving that pisses me off. It's the bullshit he said last summer. We could have dealt him. We SHOULD have dealt him. We could have sent him to Cleveland. Who knows, maybe we would have Wiggins right now. Or maybe Klay Thompson? We held on too long, holding out hope, and there's a very good chance it's going to bite us in the ass. We're going to lose him for nothing, and that is never a good way to run a franchise.
He's bitch. Straight up lier. And all this he gave us 9 years bullshit, we had his fucking rights after he was RFA. He didn't give us shit we could have matched any offer and kept him if he liked it or not..
We should have traded this dude when we had a chance we just lost him for nothing. What a bitch he is..
I think the hardest part is that we are the closet we've been to a championship since 99' and if he leaves we will be back at square one...if he does leave he should at least let Olshey know so we can do what we need to do..time is of the essence...probably he has told Olshey.
Whatever square we were on wasn't any closer to a championship than square one is. In fact, one could argue that we were FURTHER away from a championship than we are now that we're back at square one. It's like coming to a fork in the road and not knowing which path leads you home - we went down the left path and eventually found that we needed to take the right path to get home. Now that we're back at the fork in the road (square one) we're much closer to being home.I think the hardest part is that we are the closet we've been to a championship since 99' and if he leaves we will be back at square one...

IF LMA must leave then I like the Spurs destination the most. We aren't getting Kawhi but I would so like to have both Danny Green and Patty Mills plus a pick. I not interested in Splitter personally but it may take another body to fill the salary gap.On ESPN, Brussard says the Spurs is Aldridge's first choice.
