the fans I mean.

blazers- passed on Durant. Kind of a consensus to pick Oden though.

sonics- got hosed out of their franchise. maybe most don't care though anymore.

thoughts? which gets discussed more? Passing on Oden or Losing the Sonics franchise?

Seattle, without a doubt.

The Sonics... we didn't pass on Russell Westbrook.

the sonics are forgotten, the blazers will get all the woe

Sonics...

Portland made the right choice at the time. Hell it was everyone around the league that supported Oden being the #1 pick. Unfortunately it didn't pan out as expected, but it wasn't like the media and professionals laughed at our decision.

Seattle, on the other hand, lost their team. Basically the opportunity was given to the citizens of Seattle to endorse a new building and was rejected. All the "Seattle History" died the day that their team turned into the "Thunder". If I was a Seattle fan, I would be completely and totally devasted.

Yeah but we always get that Jordan/Bowie thing thrown in our face. FWIW I think the media will rub it in our face more than the city of Seattle.

For the legion of NBA fans still living in Seattle, May is the cruelest month. It's is the month of memories. The month of Jack Sikma and Fred Brown. The month of Gary Payton and Shawn Kemp. The month of Lenny Wilkens and George Karl.

May is when the Sonics used to own this town. It was the best of months and the worst of months.

In May, the Sonics won Western Conference championships. In May, they began playoff runs that took them to the NBA Finals in 1978, '79 and '96.

But May also was the month they lost to the Lakers in the 1980 Western Conference finals and the month they were upset in the first round by Denver in 1994.

This May, however, could be the cruelest month of all for the tens of thousands of Seattle fans who still love the game and still wait for its return.

Seattle, and it's not even close.

Any Sonics fans that are left will be hurt pretty badly in that situation, I bet.

The Blazers' fans have next year. The Sonics fans do not.

Yup, Seattle fans will be tortured forever. Even if they get a team in the future, they don't have Durant and the title (hypothetically speaking).

Re: If Oklahoma City wins the NBA championship, who does it sting more- Blazers or So

This brings up a question.... I know that when the Sonics became the Thunder, they had to leave all the history and accomplishments in Seattle. So if the NBA actually gave Seattle a team again; could they call it the Sonics and would they be able to bring back all the history as well?

Re: If Oklahoma City wins the NBA championship, who does it sting more- Blazers or So

Seattle. Not close.

Re: If Oklahoma City wins the NBA championship, who does it sting more- Blazers or So

Definitely Seattle. I get PO'd when I see Durant performing so well and think about Oden missing so many games, but I don't think that GO's done yet, so I at least cling to hope that we'll see that pick bring success to the Blazers. Seattle's just twisting in the NBA wind and thinking of what might have been.

That said, I'll think about this more if the Thunder get passed the Grizzlies. They have a long way to go to win a title.

Doesn't matter. It ain't gonna happen.

Seattle, and as others have said, it's not even close. We might be upset that so far Oden hasn't done a lot of Durant is the poster child for the NBA, but at least we didn't get screwed over by the league.

Greg Oden could spontaneously combust, Brandon Roy could demand to leave town, LaMarcus could join the Black Panthers, Gerald Wallace could take a dump on center court and everyone else could have knee surgeries. But unlike Seattle fans, we can wake up tomorrow and still talk about the team that is from our 'area'.

Well said, very well said... Rep'd

Blazer Fans > Sonics "Fans" though.

Re: If Oklahoma City wins the NBA championship, who does it sting more- Blazers or So

Yeah, concur with the "Seattle, and it's not close" sentiment, along with julius' point.
As to who's the better fan base, I agree that it's Portland, but not far off. Compare 2005 Blazers fan base (attendance, etc) to 2007 Sonics (who knew they were probably gone, with ClayClay and Aubrey burning down loyalty left and right, and it's closer than most want to believe.

Re: If Oklahoma City wins the NBA championship, who does it sting more- Blazers or So

It's not going to be painful for me if they win. They are well coached, have some exciting, dynamic players and they play like a team. Hell, I'd rather see them win than the Lakers, Celtics or Heat.
