And the Blazers aren't able to work a trade for, say, LeBron James and the number one pick in this year's draft, and if Olshey intends to stick with 5 starters from last year's team, then what would you want to be his moves to bolster the bench?

I hope reality has Channing Frye's phone number because he'd be perfect off the bench for us.

Agreed, plus having the combined P-Town love from Channing and Robin would make the Moda Center positively glow.

In reality Portland does not win titles so screw it.

Then reality should make SlyPokerDog GM because that guy will make shit happen!

Take a look at that picture there is no way that many white people could win a title in the NBA today if they could Sterling would have tried.

So that takes away from the 1977 title how? You said Portland doesn't win titles. There's a banner in the Rose Garden that suggests otherwise. Why does this have to be a race thing? It's a simple fact. Winning a title has happened in Portland. That is all I'm talking about. Nothing more, nothing less.

Yes it has happened but not in the modern NBA. Portland may again win a title but it won't be next year.

So that means those Boston Celtics teams from the mid 70's... the New York Knicks, GSW, etc... those just don't count because it's not the modern NBA?

So, when THIS "modern" NBA becomes old hat and a new "Modern" NBA comes in, will this not count? Since there seems to be a "time table" for Modern. Modern is always going to change, so winning a title won't matter 40 years from now, so who cares? That's what I got out of that.

And for the record, no one on this earth (Even mags and KS) are saying we are going to win next year. But there's a lot of years, so...

Only a Sith deals in absolutes.

Let me be more specific we will never win a title with LA as one of our top 2 players.

Need to start a prediction thread...who's calling next!?!

So, I was supposed to ascertain that from "Portland doesn't win titles"?

If you want to keep putting parameters on it, go ahead. But it would have been a lot easier to do it in the first post.

Also, too many white guys means Portland won't win a title, or something like that. I'll need to keep a list of this guy's caveats.

While I kinda sorta get his point that the 77 team won in a really odd era for the NBA, the rest of his assertions are just old flaccid dicks trying to get hard.

Someone who plays defense

We have a thread like this already, named FA pick ups or whatever.

Why y'all gotta waste my flava? Damn!

Here's my thought FWIW. I don't have a specific name in mind, but I think the Blazers need a true 6th man. A player who can play two or more positions, is unquestionably first guy off the bench, and can shoot. Right now although the bench is improved (it could hardly get worse!) over 2012-2013, there isn't anyone who really scares an opponent. Look at contending teams, including past Blazers teams, you see a Ginobili, Sheed, Danny Ainge, Vinny Johnson, etc. Opponents knew that when the starters got a rest did not mean they could coast.

I have no quarrel with starting five (obviously if by some miracle the Blazers could land James I won't argue), there are a few decent bench components but not real 6th man.

I wonder if

A. That player is out there
B. If he is attainable for what we have
C. On our team already

This team needs some aggression, we need a Tony Allen like defender, we need someone on offense with swagger of Will Barton but will an actual well rounded game or Will Barton to learn how to shoot. We need a big with a mean streak someone like a Reggie Evans or Bird Man, a guy who can give you 15-20 minutes some hard nose defense, rebounds and to put someone on their ass for coming down the lane.

1977 Blazers would sweep Miami and San Antonio if they met today.

NBA player quality level has drastically declined since those Golden Days. Few players even understand the team concept of basketball and many are simply unteachable.

Actually, the NBA has already become Sterling's ideal. A league of nostly under-educated black guys willing to perform on a stage for rich white plantation owners.

I know it. I just think the move makes them softer rather than tougher. Not sure that is direction to take.

There are other options. Charmin is a great guy and he would fit Stotts' offensive system nicely. Yet, defense is where we need help (even on the bench) as you suggest.
