Outside of Staples Center, the Lakers have statues of Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Jerry West, Shaquille O'Neal, and Chick Hearn.

Which got me to thinking, who would be the Blazers' statues? I think we can all agree that we have WAY too many numbers retired.

I would choose Walton, Clyde, and Dame.

Three two-man statues:

Sheed throwing a towel at Sabonis
Ha going after Sinanovic with a pole
Zach punching Ruben Patterson

barfo

And Jack Ramsay?

When Dame was first drafted to Portland they interviewed him once and asked if he had any fears and he said yes....statues....I can't stand statues...they creep me out. If anybody should get a statue it should be Harry Glickman.

Just Walton. Weird that Crypto.com Arena has all those statues and not one of Kobe, arguably the greatest Laker ever.

There is no Staples Center

I still like the idea of a ring of honor. Kind of covers the retired numbers and statues all in one.
The Mural idea is really good though.

Walton, Drexler, and Schonz from the options given and I'd be cool with Dr. Jack as well. Is there any way to unretire numbers?

No duh. I just didn't feel like looking up the new name.

Way to go!!! You got me!!!

Just saw on fbook memories yesterday that it's been 9 years since they changed the name of the Rose Garden, couldn't believe it's been that long. Still refuse to call it the new name, it will always be the RG to me. It is weird though when they new sponsorship names come in, I mean Safeco Field just feels right even though it's a corporate name, but T-Mobile Park just isn't correct in my brain. Kind of like Staples vs. Crypto

...they'd all be angrily torn down a year or so after the player left.

EXCEPT SABONIS!

I would say none right now. But Dame would get my vote when his career is over, assuming he finishes it as a Trail Blazer.
The other guys on that list dont check all the boxes in my opinion.

I'd only have Drexler right now. Best Blazer in franchise history, though Lillard will likely eclipse him and others might argue already has.

Walton I can see why others might vote him, he just wasn't part of the team long enough IMO. Would Toronto put a statue of Kawhi out front? First seasons Walton was an irrelevant rookie for a non playoff team. Basically one great title year, then first half the next season he gets injured and his Blazers career was over. Kanter played in more playoffs for us. I'm not strongly opposed to a Walton statue, I'd just lean towards no. I might even rank Roy ahead of Walton, or Sheed, Sabas, etc.

Bill Schonely I'd be fine with, but I'd lean towards only having players, so no.

Lillard should have one but it shouldn't be confirmed or go up until the player is a few years removed from retirement.

Forum still rings in my brain?

I've never understood the theory why sports waits so long to honor people. Lots of times, it seems like we wait to honor people the most after they've died (see Bill Russell). It's always made more sense to me to give people their recognition as soon as you know its time because you never know what might happen (see Kobe).

If Dame asked for a trade tomorrow, he should still get a statue, so I'd have zero problem honoring him now.
