What has McIlrath done after 34 career games to demonstrate he's not capable of playing in the NHL? If I was going to knock him it would be on his durability as he suffered another knee injury but performance wise I think he has been very good physically, a better skater than expected and much better offensive player than advertised. I prefer watching him throw crushing body checks and moving people out of the crease to Boyle's cowering. His salary is $600K on a cap strapped team, gee I wonder why some Rangers fans want him in the lineup?
Forget Yandle, he's making $5.75 this year, does Gorton think he'll take a pay cut when other teams are going to give him a raise? I'm rooting for Keith to have a good playoff run but resigning him sinks more money into an already overpaid defensive unit. Same goes for Shattenkirk, the Rangers need to give the young guys a chance to free up millions of cap dollars. Graves is also waiting in the wings and at 6'4" 220 lbs deserves a chance sooner than later.
