To see any team besides the Yankees to have an old timers games. What team would you like to see do it?

Me, I wouldn't mind the Cubs (Banks Williams, Jenkins) , Red Sox, (Yaz, Petrocelli, Rice, Lynn, Lonborg) Tigers (Kaline, McLain, Horton) & a couple of others but my #1 choice would be to see the Giants. And not just because I'm a lifetime fan but because I think they could field the most history.

Mays, McCovey, Cepeda, Marichal, Perry, Hart, Bonds, Will & Jack Clark, JT Snow, Matt Williams, Dave Kingman Gary Mathews etc.

I don't know how costly or profitable it is to the ball club but I really think it would be a fan favorite event for many teams.

I notice every year people are less and less into it. Too many guys have passed on. Once Yogi goes I see little to no interest being had.

I disagree, take the Yankees as an example. think a few years down the road when a Yankees old timers game will have fan favorites like Posada, O'Neill, Rivera, Pettitte, Williams & Jeter. You're forgetting that fans that grew up enjoying players from the 50s & 60s are also passing on. But there's a whole new generation of fans who would & do love seeing there favorite players from the 70s 80s & even the 90s.

Eventually where I may see a problem is that players don't stay with one team long enough anymore to actually become fan favorites. But for the time being I still think SOME not all franchises would still get a kick out it. JMO.

Foremost-I loved those Giants too, Mays, McCovey, Marichal, Perry, you mentioned the rest.....

2nd-I'd love to see the Cards of the 60s, too, as well as the Oakland and KC A's, of the late 60s-early 70s, other than those blinding uniforms, those dues rocked the baseball world. Catfish, Vida Blue, Blue Moon Odom, Reggie, Sal Bando, Campy, Lacheman, Rudi, so on
.
2A- Oh what I would give to see the Orioles of the same era as the A's noted above. The double-header between both teams was incredible in hindsight, two great teams, with those awesome Giants just across the Bay.

The Big Red machine would be nice. If Spahn were alive, I would love to see the old Braves too. Cubs as you mentioned too.

Then again, to many old timers are no longer with us.....

giants have had some amazing players for sure

Thanks Rob. Wow! this was a thread I thought would really take off as a very interesting topic. Oh well..................lets move on.

the price of tickets is making it more and more unreasonable for younger generations to get into the game. taking my son to one game a year or every other year doesn't peak his interest to current players never mind wanting to go watch guys he hasn't heard about.

No doubt, the price of tickets has gone up 140% overnight in Los Angeles. Concession are through the roof, as is parking. On top of insult to injury, DirecTv is not showing any Bums games, which the Bums have shown since Cable/Satellite TV's inception. Once providing every single away and home game, for $4 a month, and on top of that, we got an additional 39 other channels, half of them sports related.

With Time Warner Bros-Cable, 8.7 Billion dollar contract to the Bums. I have not seen or received one, not even one, Spring Training (ST) game, they are all blacked out.

Once again the almighty dollar has sworn. Disrespecting the Fans, for Money beyond sanity.

This year alone, TWB-C, is paying the Bums $210 million, which will increase over 25 years, until that 8.7 Billion $$$ is spent. Guggenheim has to be rolling in his money. Enough to pay more than 2/3rd the Bums inflated payroll.

You would think with this much money, ticket prices would of gone down, or in some way, Fans would see some kickback in appreciaton, in lieu of those rich barons, wiping their arses with greebacks.
Sad.

When I was a kid I could throw a rock & nearly hit Shea stadium so I would see over 20 games a year. Most from the over pass from the train station. But you're right, the high prices today have taken the fun out of the game.

You want to bring the young crowds back, here's a though, with all the money the owners are making have AT LEAST 1/2 dozen games a year where children under 14 or 16 can get in for 1/2 price.

i had a relative on the late 60s/early 70s oriole juggernauts, i think it would be great to see earl stomping around and a bunch of 3 run homers

Who would that relative be?

their is no composure, there is no no lack of composure. When the flag blows, is it the wind or the flag blowing. It certainly is NOT The wind blowing the flag.

It IS the Mind moving........

The blade

A revolutionary defender if there ever was one

And you guys call yourselves baseball fans...or users of the internet for that matter

http://www.lmgtfy.com/?q=baseball+oriole+"the+blade"

You'll have to forgive us bad baseball fans for not knowing the nick name of a career 220 hitter who hit a total of about a dozen HRs. Sorry Mr. Baseball, The late Mark Belanger was a very good SS but not exactly someone that ANY fan would think of to quickly. Especially by his nick name.

Not exactly something to brag about since the guy couldn't hit a beach ball thrown underhand at the plate.

40+ career WAR
MVP votes
All star
Multiple gold gloves

But please, tell me where I was bragging?

you guys are hilarious!

...as opposed to simply saying who it was to begin with.

Just keep the suspense going. Answer the man will ya?

LMAO.....I think Wesley Snipes was the "Real Blade"...

I in fact did see Belanger with the O's in a doubleheader split versus the A's in Oakland. Mark, I would never say Mark was a Revolutionary SS Defender. He hit .208 in 68 and struck out all 8 at bats during that double header. In fact he was still breaking in his glove. So, Belanger had 8 gold gloves in 18 years, not bad. Mark was in ONE All Star Game. Seeing Mark replace a true HOF SS-Luis Aparicio was a joke. Even more of a joke, was watching him break in next to the Great Brooks Robinson, try on 16 Consecutive Gold Gloves by Brooks, who WAS the real Revolutionary Defender. In fact, O's fans bemoaned the loss of Aparicio, and Mark never lived up to his hype, replacing a truly great defender. Mark was NO L.Aparicio with a glove or bat. Luis was a ROY; had 9 gold gloves & 10 All Star appearances in 18 years, with a lifetime .262 B'Avg.!

Belanger was really no more special than Doug DeCinces, who also never lived up to his hype, also trying to replace a Legend HOF'er.

I could easily list a dozen or more, Short Stops who had better gloves, and bats than Belanger. either or, take your pick.

Mark had a Whopping-less Anemic Post Season Batting Average of .183, Holy Cow, maybe he should of used a baseball bat to hit, instead of a blade.

BTW-what's that, he couldn't hit a beach ball thrown underhanded? He had a hard time hitting a ball off of a Tee, also...!!

Never mind US being hilarious my delusional friend, are you REALLY serious with those shit examples you gave. All star = ONCE! in 18 years & that was only because he was a decent fielder. Yeah I know 8 GGs, how that happened I'll never know.

And MVP votes? holy shit are you smoking something? 3 times in 18 years he got SOME votes. And the voters had to be stoned to give him any votes at all. I mean EXAMPLE: 1973 he finished 21st & his numbers were 0 / 26 / 226. Yeah dude there's some really bad ass numbers to be proud of.

In 43 post season games (over 120 ABs) the guy battered an incredible 183. Are you sure you really want to keep bragging about this bum?

Maybe...M A Y B E, if they had a designated fielder back in his day he would have gotten into a FEW games but as a hitter he flat out sucked. And you think we're hilarious?

Next you'll be telling us that he was a much better fielder then Jeter.

You guys are a fucking laugh riot!

That's it? That's what you come back with after I responded to you with FACTS! which I've no doubt you're having trouble digesting possibly from the obvious false build up you got about your Uncle Mark & his less then stellar baseball career. Sorry for the harsh & painful reality check.

Look, I'm trying to be as nice as possible. And maybe because of my age iv'e grown less patient to stupidity, but you've really got to think before you post. Especially when it comes to baseball. I mean, I know women who have forgotten more about this game then you'll EVER know. So please take this advise & again I'm trying to be kind here. I'm guessing that of your 12,000+ posts that maybe what, a dozen are actually about baseball? and the rest about the NBA (which is another topic I could educate you about). So here's my idea, stay on board here, the more the merrier. Seriously. But just think about what you're posting & if I could help, I'm here for you.

NO!, your thanks are not necessary but.................................................................you're very welcome.

he wasnt my uncle, but he was a horrible hitter, i of course knew this, you with your vast knowledge apparently had to look it up. his value was on defense in a time in which many teams employed no hit, slick glove shortstops. he was also a smart baserunner, leading to him having 14.6 oWAR for his career. simply put, yes he was horrible at bat, but so were most shortstops of that era. if thats too confusing for you to figure out just go back to the "he had 20 homeruns!!11!!" line

Look, I'm trying to be as nice as possible.

thats a fucking lie and you know it

And maybe because of my age

its all starting to come together now

you've really got to think before you post

i am under no obligation to do any such thing, although i always do. i stated, in an effort to further this thread, that id like to see the old oriole teams play. and was attacked for "bragging" or some such nonsense. hilarious! :biglaugh:

I mean, I know women

doubtful

who have forgotten more about this game then you'll EVER know.

hyperbole at its finest, and sexist to boot, should i expect any better? i wont until proven otherwise

So please take this advise

do you mean advice? maybe its the old age again

& again I'm trying to be kind here.

I'm guessing that of your 12,000+ posts that maybe what, a dozen are actually about baseball?

you guess wrong, but alas, im sure you are used to that

and the rest about the NBA (which is another topic I could educate you about).

feel free to tell me one thing i dont already know, ill wait

So here's my idea, stay on board here, the more the merrier

im gonna continue to do whatever the fuck i want, all the time

I'm here for you

creepy
