Let's say that going into next season, Webster, Outlaw, and Batum step into KP's office and say, "You have to make a choice. There's only room for one of us." If you're KP, who would you want to be the future of the Blazers at the 3?

I think Batum will be the best player of the three but I'd choose Webster. I think he is the only real perimeter threat on the Blazers and they will need it to free up Oden, LMA, and Roy.

Batum. The fact that he can step in and be competent as a raw, 19-year old rookie says lots about his ultimate potential, he already has shown that he has a ton of defensive talent and his game seems to project to a "fill up the box score" sort with good basketball IQ. Which I think is ideal for a player who will play with a bunch of other scorers.

The love child of Connie Hawkins and Scottie Pippen. However, until medical technology catches up, I'd say Webster.

Travis shot 40% from 3's last year and is over 50% this year making 1.6 a game. Thats qualifies as a perimeter threat right? Blake is a 40%+ guy as well and Rudy is probably the best shooter on the club. Bayless is going to be a solid perimeter threat too.

I voted for Batum as I think he's got the best all around game

Batum, without a doubt. He knows where to be, he is a great defender and he does not force anything.

I would keep Travis off the bench as a spark-plug at either the backup SF or PF position - and keep Webster as a backup SF if Outlaw is our backup PF.

Batum as the starting SF... exactly what this team needs... he is going to be great as he keeps developing.

I voted Batum, go all around game + BBIQ.

I watch him playing at 19 years old, and think back to how Webs/Trav looked like deer in the headlights at that age. The kid will be special.

47%FG, 36%3ptFG, 80%FT, at 19 years old an playing limited minutes. What's not to like?

Easily Batum. I see greatness for Nic on the defensive end. As raw as he is, he's already a good defender.

I'm surprised that Outlaw has so little votes.

He is improving, and working on defense and rebounding right now...

But he definitely is best suited as the backup SF and PF in a 9 man rotation.

I love Trout - but not as the SF of the future - which was the question asked.

I doubt Martell will ever be anything more than an average starter SF - so I voted Batum. Travis is a great backup SF/PF - but greatness in this position as a starter - I just do not see.

If they actually said that, I would trade all 3 of them!

This is a very good question. I like all 3 players a heckuva lot. Long term I have to go with Batum. He's the best defender of the three and he's only 19. Short term I think Travis and Martell are just about even. I'd prefer to keep all 3 if at all possible though.

This SF from Deep Space Nine is one vision of SF of the future.

for the record, I've never in my life ever watched Deep Space Nine.

Or just about anything on Sci-Fi outside of scare tactics lol.

I agree. All three bring slightly different skills. So all three can play a role. But as the starting SF for the future, I think it has to be Nico.

GO BLAZERS!

Personally, I'd pick Kobe Bryant- Roy, Rudy, Kobe, Aldridge, Oden- now that's a lineup! Come to Portland, Kobe.

From the above choices, I think Batum looks to have the most potential, but Webster is the best for next season.

It has to be Batum, and as I said earlier, I wonder where Martell fits into the future of the team. The team is shooting fine from 3 without him, and Batum is a better defender.

I think it is incredible to have such richness in our shooters. All my Blazer-fan-life I have yearned for what other teams seemed to have in droves: players who could consistently drain jumpers. We traded half the team for Kiki Vandeweghe to get that, if the oldersters recall. Drazen Petrovic was another such -- and we traded him away.

This is easily the most long-ball team the Blazers have ever fielded. And it does not bother me one whit. This team can live by the jumper, as long as we have the rebounding bigs, our shooters can still drive to the hole, and the team can find the open man. It is a thing of beauty that the team on a fast break kicks it out to the open shooter who drains the shot.

So Webster was supposed to be our shooting specialist -- but now the whole team (just about) is decent at draining the open bucket: Rudy, Blake, Outlaw, Batum, (Roy and Sergio less-so) is a HECK of a lot of jump-shooting talent. Webster is redundant with Batum/Outlaw/Rudy/Roy all playing time at the 3.

It is a good question. Glad we have a few years to make the right choice. Travis plays well off the bench so he makes it easier by taking him out of the equation. Martel and Batum are so different it is a tough call. Batum does look like he could be great defensively. But Martel has unlimited range and really opens things up. (and is somewhat local. I like the Euro's but they still make me nervous long term because the option of leaving and going home is always there) But already having Rudy available i would go with Batum as he offers something we don't have, a lock down defender at 3 positions.

Bottom line is KEEP ALL THREE!

I'm pretty sure that if we had a similar poll about the 3 PGs we'd have similar results with Bayless in a landslide.

Has a any team ever had a group of rookies with the sort of upside that these 4 guys do?

I don't think that can happen, i'm interested/scared of what will happen when Martell comes back. He's showed continued flashes of greatness, and the rest of the time he is solid. Somewhere we have to get rid of one I'm afraid. There just aren't enough minutes to go around.
