......now that Pendergraph apparently is out, who would you want?

If Lee would settle for a backup role, I'd still love for KP to get him. Besides, Joel is a goner after this season, anyway.

Howard would be a nice fit IMO.

Lee isn't going to happen. Period.

For what reason(s), specifically? Because any deal would have to include Rudy? Perhaps, but sometimes time changes the sitchyation. :smiley-happysmoke:

Didn't Lee basically say that he didn't think this was a good situation for him? The guy doesn't want to come off the bench.

Yeah.

I wonder, though, if a chance for a ring might become a factor in any way? I suppose for the young guys that's not so much the issue, though. Cash before bling, eh?

Yeah.

Yeah, but I'm worried about having the same problems that the 98-99 team and the 99-00 teams had. When you're 2-deep at every position with guys who are good enough to be all-stars, it's hard to keep everyone happy. I think this team needs a consolidation trade, and adding Lee would only make things worse (unless that's the consolidation trade).

Right now we're looking at a possible chemistry problem at point guard, shooting guard, small forward, and even center. Why add someone at power forward who is used to starting, and would probably want a nice chunk of minutes for a hefty price?

Nate has to find minutes for Bayless, Webster, Outlaw, Rudy, and Joel. Of those five, all but Bayless could be starting in the league right now. I'm just worried we're going to run into the same chemistry problems that we've seen in the past.

I'd rather sign howard. That's over-paying for Haslem.

It is overpaying I agree. But you're doing two things with this move. One you become immediately tougher. Two, you are thinning out the roster. And really, the roster needs it to keep everyone happy.

The other thing is. I don't how much tougher this team gets by adding Howard or Swift. I'm not sure we do get tougher or more physcial. This is an area KP said that he wanted to address going into the offseason.

I don't feel he has.

I guess I could go with that, but it leaves us pretty thin at point guard. What happens if Andre Miller goes down?

LOL. It doesn't have to be Haslem. And Blake doesn't have to go. Put together a similar package using Outlaw and Bayless.

Or make that deal and sign a vet point guard like Brevin Knight. To be safe.

Or sign Juwan Howard.

When did Lee basically say this?

It come out of his agents mouth sometime in July after several meetings with Kevin Pritchard.

My only question, if that was really the case. Why hold any meetings with KP? They should have been able to see what his role was going to be before the meetings.

According to Mark Bartelstein, Lee's agent, the forward met with the Blazers this week in Las Vegas, after which talks increased. However, on Thursday evening, the sides agreed to part ways.

"We agreed it wasn't a perfect fit," Bartelstein said. "There was a lot of conversation, a lot of back-and-forth, but there were a lot of issues on both sides."

Bartelstein said the Blazers explored a sign-and-trade with the Knicks, but New York president Donnie Walsh recoiled at the offers. Meanwhile, Lee's camp had questions about his role on the Blazers, who have a solid front line with Aldridge, Oden and Joel Przybilla. The Blazers also were wary of Lee's restricted status, which would allow New York to match any offer. It was the same scenario the Blazers encountered last week when Utah matched a four-year, $32 million offer for Paul Millsap.

"I think they were concerned about a match," Bartelstein said. "They wanted to be 100 percent sure."

When did Lee basically say this?

I remember Lee saying that. I also remember us agreeing with it. The two sides just do not match.

I would sign Howard. Experience is what we need. Not talent. We have enough talent.

He offers experience. But what else does he offer? I just looked at his last years stats and if his career isn't dead yet. It won't be too long before it is.

Being that Outlaw will probably get plenty of minutes at the backup 4, I'd probably go with Howard since he'd come cheap and probably wouldn't demand much in terms of PT.

Andre Miller alley oop to Swift!

Okay, thanks. I was mostly following his discussions with the Knicks and not for other teams.

His agent though is a little questionable though. Apparently he thinks Lee should get $12M per.

:sigh:

Not to beat a dead horse, but Joe Smith signed for the league minimum. Missed opportunity.

I'd take Howard over Swift, but I have always liked Lee. If he was willing to take on a role similar to what we offered Milsap, then I would work on that. If not....Howard wouldn't be bad. Personally, I would try and explore a deal for Nick Collison....
