A Nazi "scientist", in a screed titled The Racial Biology if the Jews, noted suicides among European Jews increased 7 fold between 1849 and 1907, and concluded this was not because of increased persecution but the Jews' neurotic over reaction.
In other words, they got their panties into a bunch.

You should give that thinking part a try one day! as to you not being open to change.....duh.......another deep engaging post eh?

That's why civil rights for all oppressed minorities must be continually fought for.

Why does progress have to be so damned slow?

You're really not entering anything of relevant value to the ongoing conversation that's been going on here. Oh, other than your typical quazi-scoldings.

Nothing wrong with Jesus. His teachings have always been that we should always be for the oppressed.
There are those that would twist that for reasons that favor the Devil.

Oh for sure, there are a lot of good morals in the bible. Things many of of us practice that aren't religious like not killing, stealing, adultery, loving they neighbor, turning the other cheek, etc.

My issue with it all is when the Bible and things Jesus is purported to have said are used for division, used to oppress, and to sow hate.

@ABM Please share with us your christian story and what your worst sins were that made you turn to God.

haha......you preaching relevance in conversation...that's rich...what was relevant about coulda shoulda woulda that wouldn't come from a 3 year old having a tizzy fit? I could tag some typical stuff about your posts but hey...I'll let you tread water in the deep end by yourself. It's very telling that you have a hard time engaging in actual discourse here without some corny post meant to deflect the topic away from yourself.

Now, who's being disprespectful? I'd really expect better from you, Chris.

Disrespectful?

I'm not the one pretending to faint and be healed or pretending to have the power to make that happen.

That gif represents what I believe taints religion, in this case, Christianity. There is so much fakery out there. And, I'm not saying that's you. And, the gif was not meant as an insult or slight at you.

When one thinks about being healed, the image that comes to mind is this, a pastor raising his hands and people fainting.

I'm all for people practicing their religion and living by it. That's cool. The above and things like it, Super church pastors getting rich off parishioners. I think that kind of shit is messed up and is tainting religion.

Agreed.

That said, who's the standard? Jesus, or anyone living here on Earth? The correct answer is the former. Meaning, if we begin comparing ourselves to others, we're in for a futile lost cause.

All good, then. I thought you were jumping on the band wagon of ridiculing Christianity as a whole.

Do you even have clue the convo myself, crandc, Chris, @PtldPlatypus, and others were engaging in here? There were some reallly good comments (prior to the panties thing) all the way around. You should really check it out sometime.

We are left to interpret the words of that book. (Which by the way was written by men here on Earth) But anyway, that interpretation matters. We can interpret what is said in a way that is not self serving, that we should care and treat everyone equal regardless of their race, gender, sexual identity, etc.

Or we can interpret it in a way that isolates, classifies/divides, and pits us against each other. That's up to us.

I Liked all those comments, the good ones. How many posts are you going to keep referencing "panties" in? Try cluing in on that for once.

I'm down with religion whether it be Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, Rastafarianism, etc its all good. I just don't like when it's abused.

there's not ONE standard.....there are many...this is where you stand in shallow waters. If you need to latch onto one...then that's your choice....but Buddhists don't have that standard, nor many, many other people with high standards and values.....but it makes you feel safe so enjoy that...nobody will take it away from you...Jesus was a socialist, liberal...in his day you'd have voted for the Romans I'm pretty sure.

No doubt. Free will is very much involved.

Because, that's where the conversation shifted.

It's new for me too...
Obviously someone who does not truly understand his teachings.
As much as I like to think I understand His teachings, I'm certainly not going to claim to have a perfect handle on them. Just last month I heard an explanation of the parable of the good shepherd that was completely new to me, and made me completely re-think the meaning of that passage. I'm always interested in hearing someone's honest explanation of their interpretation of scripture.

I have an idea. I'll be in the Portland area this coming late August and would love to sit down with you and I'll share my complete testimony of conversion. It's interesting, I think.

I'll actually be out of town late August, but would still love to hear it.
