Pretty stupid how Greg said Portland isn't a great city for a black athlete to live in, and then say all he wants is privacy and not to be bothered.

Yeah, Greg, sure it would have worked out real well in NY.

He sounds like a dude trying to blame his problems on everyone but himself.

I don't think there is anyone to blame here. His body fell apart and just wasn't made for pro-sports. I wonder how Durant is adjusting to a city half the size of Portland. Poor Durant, I feel for him.

There's nobody to blame for his career, but I can certainly call him a dick for taking shots at the city after he has left town.

Yeah, I was already planning to boo him next time he's in the RG

If he ever plays again.

Oden should have adopted Zbo's Hoop Family.

I'm sure some team will sign him so he can sit behind their bench in a suit, but I wouldn't be surprised if the gutless wonder never sets foot in Portland again.

Maybe the dog got tired of being with Oden and jumped.

:biglaugh:

i laughed out loud. Well done sir. repped. well, not yet. but after I post this I will. So, not repped. About to be repped.

Before I opened this thread I thought this was surely an article/quote from Raymond Felton.

Anyone else think the same?

Nope. Because, in the end, Felton will still at least Ray Ray "Roundball" Fatty, the only player in the NBA as round as the basketball.

And that, clearly, is more than nothing.

This bring up a double-standard:

What if a prime Steve Nash played for the Hawks and told somebody "shit, this city is too black for me!"

Offensive, yes?

No, shit. Remember the remarks from J.R. Rider about how racist Portland is? And how they were still lynching people 35 miles outside of town (or something like this)?

And how did people respond?? With support, love, bibles.... Rider was shocked at how Oregonians responded. It's all love. Oden shouldn't have felt like it was difficult living here - we all loved and embraced him from day one.

I guess he has already forgotten about the 10K+ fans that skipped work, school, whatever to show up and see him -HIM- arrive in Portland.

No. You stated something you made up as if it were fact. Not really surprised - you often do that to support your arguments. Nothing about that interview says anything about the organization NOT checking with Greg first. Absolutely nothing. But your quote clearly does. But, 1, you're not a credible source. And, 2, you're even less of a source for the article we're discussing.

"Bringing in a HS coach is one thing, but hiring a professional therapist who was working with Greg, and apparently not even talking to Greg about it, is just dumb. If the Blazers wanted to hire him, they should have talked to Greg and asked if he'd have any issues with it. Apparently, based on that interview, nobody even thought to talk to Oden about the potential conflict of interest."

Made up something as fact? Calm down. Maybe I was incorrect in reading that, but it literally has nothing to do with how Greg himself felt when he saw this therapist talking to Blazer officials. I just find that bad form, especially in front of the players.

You're making a big deal out of nothing, when it was really Greg's perception is what I was talking about.

If anything, they probably wanted the guy on their payroll so they could ensure that the news about Greg seeing a shrink wasn't getting out. They were always in damage control with news about Greg. It would be a lot easier to brush it off if the guy was an employee of the team and not a random therapist.

So, to protect their mentally fragile center, they put him in a situation where he got even more distrustful?

You used your fact-bending to support your argument.

But really, given Greg's history, and his mental issues, he should have manned up and asked the Blazers and/or Carr, rather than jumping to his own conclusions and letting his paranoia getting the best of him. Did Oden REALLY not expect that Carr would converse with members of the organization?? He's an employee for Christ sakes. Of course he's going to converse. If he thinks those conversations were potentially crossing the line, he needs to communicate that. He had the wherewithal to know he needed to see a sports psychologist, he should have been a man and expand on his communication, not let the insecurity and paranoia take him further down a bad road.

Indianapolis is as generic as it gets and he takes a shot at Portland.

He talks about how it sucks seeing Durant doing so well in OKC.

OKC is a lot smaller, just as white, do you hear Durant talking down on his town?

I don't think that was the intention. Organizations hire coaches, support staff, personal secretaries, etc for players all the time to help players out, and, it's another way of providing compensation while circumventing CBA rules.

Oden never had any difficulty getting busy with any white women around town....

Just sayin'.

Willamette Week had an article a few years back that said Portland is the most white major city in the USA.

Weird is just another term for white!

Think about what I just bolded. You're asking somebody that you claim has mental issues to be self-aware and confident enough to confront his bosses. Good luck with that one.

The easier answer would be to not have a clusterfuck for an ownership "group", and have some clearly-defined roles within the organization.
