FWIW, Zach Lowe and Bill Simmons both said on his podcast today that if they had to guess CJ wouldn’t be on the blazers next year. Threw out trades like Miles Turner for CJ and Fultz, #10, and/or Saric for CJ.

Zach Lowe in particular said he thinks we will see some big trades this summer because there is so many teams deep into the cap unhappy with their rosters so making trades is really their only way of making significant change.

The question was asked if he had stayed another year in college and was in this year's draft. I'd argue he would have gone much higher than ten too.
 
Anyone get a chance to listen to CJ on the Woj podcast today? Can anyone summarize what was said?

You did read in the article where it says "This is not to say Altman made great deals"? You also realize that he has been their GM for less than a year so when you say "he makes trades every season to improve his team" since he hasn't been making trades for more than one season that is just not true, right? You also realize that the whole point of the article you printed was to assume Kyrie would've gotten injured and wouldn't have played so they basically just give the GM a pass for a bad trade?

You can't come up with a better way to try and knock the Blazers GM that actually makes sense?

Hey this thread is back. Making deals just to make deals doesn’t really make sense. If you’re of the opinion the back court doesn’t work than making a deal with CJ involved would make sense.
Altman made a lot of trades sure but I think the team they had last year was better than the team they have now.
I posted a list of the Blazers current roster and who was over and under paid and I kind of surprised myself, which has caused me to do some thinking about how fair I have been to NO. I still have my issues with him, it’s hard to say what deals they have had available though. I know he needs a dancing partner but if they had of managed to get PG13 last year next to the guards and Nurk they may be the team that just got beat by GS.

Yeah, once again I don't understand why people can't just use actual logical arguments to bash Olshey instead of made up ones that don't make sense. There is plenty of material for either side of the discussion without resorting to making stuff up.

@jlprk will just respond by saying something stupid about O-Livers or how Olshey paid me to say that because he isn't able to come up with actual responses.

Some of my issues aren’t so much “fact” as I just think his personality leaves a lot to be desired (that’s personal though). Anyways, I believe we’ve been over this enough times that you don’t need to read me whine about it.

I agree 100%... Neil’s performance is one thing... but I think what really rubs most fans the wrong way is his arrogance personality... how condescending he was in exit interview, showing no accountability for failure and telling fans they have no right to be upset

I completely agree with the personality thing, I've just chosen not to let his personality dictate how I feel about the moves he makes.

I would be fucking frustrated too if I was him:
2014-15 Makes a big move at the deadline and we look like legit contenders for at least the WCF and Wes gets hurt.

2015-16 Aldridge leaves along with other starters and Olshey likely thought he was going to have a lottery pick to add the next summer but the team not only makes the playoffs but they beat the Clippers and play the Warriors tough.

2016-17 The team completely under performs and his big free agent acquisition regresses back to crappy Turner instead of good Turner on Boston. He makes a great trade to get Nurk and the team is playing better than anyone in the league for 20 games and then Nurk gets hurt.

2017-18 The team is once again under performing meaning Allen probably didn't want to pay the tax and then after the trade deadline they start playing awesome for a stretch and then when it matters they completely lay an egg.

I'd be frustrated too when no matter what you do the seemingly worst possible outcome for the off season keeps happening every single year. I don't think he should bring the fans into it but I'd be pissed off at my team too.

I suppose, but it’s his job to figure out why. I actually kind of think if I was NO I’d have switched coaches, it’s a much easier thing to do then change players, also shows the owner you’re pro-active.

I'm not trying to say it's not his job to figure it out, just that I'd be frustrated if every time you set the team up to be bad the results are good and when you try to be good something bad happens. I wouldn't handle that well either.

The Stotts thing is interesting because we just don't know if it's his decision or Allen's decision. Dame has been very vocal about keeping Stotts and Allen seems to want to appease Dame so it is more than likely to conclude in my opinion that Allen won't let Olshey fire him.

The GM should also be able to look past the W/L record, or a fluke Playoff victory, to see that there are fundamental flaws with the team. That's what most concerns me about Olshey - he takes everything at face value.

Olshey admitted they made a mistake and he also admitted what type of players they’re looking to add. What else should he do, go to all the whiny fans houses and personally apologize? A hug and a kiss on the forehead?

EXACTLY! This roster is fundamentally flawed... and the sad thing is I think he knows this, but his ego is in the way... he would rather go down with the ship trying to force it to work instead of admitting the problems and changing direction

Not sure if you're directing this at me, or somehow piggy-backing on what I said?
What he should do is get better at being a GM. It's not about making A mistake, it's about repeatedly making mistakes and not seeming to learn from them.

In the exit interview he specifically said the roster needs to get better and that the roster isn't a final product. Why would he say that if he didn't think he needed to make changes?

Honestly and I will admit this is probably not fair of me, but it seems like Olshey has said all that before. Seems like he goes into platitudes mode pretty fast, which i guess is part of his job.

He's done a poor job of targeting free agents. If he were as good at evaluating NBA talent as he is at evaluating NCAA talent we'd be a much better team. He also has blinders on when it comes to how the team is coached.
In my book, he's above average at drafting, near average at trading, and below average at Free Agency.

Biggest one I can think of was Drafting Meyers Leonard, then doubling down on it with a new contract.
Though to be fair, I think his biggest mistake in regards to ML was firing Kim Hughes, ML was up to that point progressing, since then not so much...

You can't force players to come here. He's made one truly horrendous signing in free agency (Turner). The rest of his signings have been mostly decent value signings like Davis, Aminu, and Mo Williams. I really don't want to get into the players that didn't sign as we've beaten that dead horse.

If Leonard is that reliant on a coach, he probably never had a chance to begin with.
